The Soundsational Parade is different from the one that we saw during our last visit in May, right? I can't remember the name of that one but we really liked it. Any comments on comparing the two?

we were at Disneyland in may 2012, the parade at that time was soundsational.
the soundsational parade has been in Disneyland a couple of years now.

Thanks! I thought when I saw the Soundsational pictures that it was different, but I guess not! : )

Soundsational has been running since at least summer of 2011.

- How early should we find seats for the parade?
- What are your favorite viewing areas?

We got to our hotel (hojo), checked in and headed straight to the parks...as we were walking thru the turnstiles I could hear the parade music so we hurrrrried on in to catch it and got GREAT viewing space right where you first go in to DL. I was pleasantly suprised.

And it was a great "welcome to Disneyland" for my son :-)

We were there in May also and I agree, the photos don't do the parade justice. Before our trip I looked at online photos of the parade and it didn't look that good to me - so we skipped it. However, we had to wait at one point to cross the parade path (trying to get to a bathroom) and what we saw near the end of the parade were some really great floats and characters. We may try to fit it in this next trip in Nov. I think the photos I saw were more of the "musicians" and not the disney characters and that's what made me lose interest.

I would suggest 30 minutes till an hour before depending on how crowded the day is. Just watch and see when others start lining main street. The hub is great to watch but it is the most popular and hardest to get seats. I like up by IASW or by Matterhorn. There is an area by ISAW when walking towards it from Matterhorn to the right that has like 4 or 5 steps which is nice because it gets you above the crowd and you can see. But being in the front is fun because you get characters to interact with you, especially if you have small children or a camera.

It started Memorial Day weekend in 2011....We missed seeing it by like 4 days :( but going to be seeing it less than a week now :) can't wait

Same here! We always go right before memorial day weekend and missed it the first year. The next time I went it was raining so no parade. I finally got to see it in May and its AMAZING!! So glad the replace it with the Celebrate You and the annoying music that always got stuck in my head because we always seemed to be in line for Matterhorn or IASW at parade time!:rotfl2:

I'm not a big parade fan (rather be riding than waiting for a parade) but I would wait for this one!

We arrived at Hojo's this week on Thursday late afternoon, ate a quick dinner, and headed for the park as I wanted to catch the parade our first night. Made it with 15 mins to spare. (We had WOC planned for our second night and F!/fireworks scheduled for our third.) I had read that near the fire engine at the entrance to the park was a good viewing spot if you didn't stake your spot up at the front of the route early. instead, we grabbed a great spot across the roundabout from there. We were able to watch the parade coming right at us, turn a wide corner in front of us, and go out to the right. It was nighttime so everything was lit and beautiful with all the extra Halloween decorations. I admit to tearing up when the first float came around the far corner. We all loved it! I'm a long-time Mary Poppins fan so I was most excited and surprised to see her. This was my first parade so I can't compare it to others.

On Saturday, we were trying to make it from Jungle Cruise to Toontown for RR but were cut off because the daytime parade had just started so we got to enjoy it again. We ended up standing exactly where Cagirl4life mentioned. My 3-yo slipped under the rope to dance on the stairs and was excited when a few of the princesses waved at her.

For the second parade of that extremely busy Saturday in the park, I saw many families lined up about 90 mins beforehand at the hub. I loved where we watched the parade the first night as we got to see the floats for much longer than them just driving by and the crowds were thinner.

I would not recommend the town square area as it tends to have some issues with music clashing. Each part of the parade has it's own music to accompany and normally, the transition is seamless. The problem is that because the parade goes around the flagpole you can have 3 floats in that area and three different songs playing. It tends to be a cacophony of sounds and ruins the music. My favorite area is Small World Mall, because you can get there a bit later and still get a good spot on the raised Princess area (across from small world)
