Anyone know where I can buy one? Without having to order online? I'm traveling a LONG way with two little ones, and my DD2 is a runner. Sprinter is more like it. :-) I'm taking an umbrella stroller for layovers, but I also want her to be able to run and stretch her legs while we're on the ground. The only way I can feel safe doing that is with a leash. I just don't know where to look. Online will take too long to deliver (we're leaving Saturday.)

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

specialtybaby.com, they are in new jersey, and actually have a retail store you might be able to visit.

WalMart carries them. We have one that looks like a monkey backpack. DS loves it!

Target has them as well. More of the dog or monkey backpack looking harnesses with the tail as the leash. I like them because I can put an ID card in the zippered part. I think it was around $15. Good Luck:thumbsup2

I second this! We bought the monkey backpack one from Walmart. We used it just last week on a short trip to Florida. We love it! DS3 wears it with no problem.

Our Walmart carries the type that can be attached to wrist or as a harness. For DS, I actually used the wrist part on his belt loop (in the back). He had no idea it was there and could explore DL "on his own". He did not like the backpack type, I thought it was cute though.

I met a mom the other day who bought her harness/leash at Wal Mart, but found the strap that she would hold on to very short. She ended up going to the pet aisle and buying a clip dog leash to hook to the harness and that gave the toddler a little more freedom to be just a little further from her mom.

We go the dog, it is eddie bauer brand at target, around 15...however we took it everyday to disney for our DS 2, but he was PERFECT....rode in the stoller or would only walk holding our hand. I was in shock, I still have it and plan on packing for our Dec. trip....just incase!

Back in the day, parents taught their young children to stay with them, totally defeating the reason for a leash. If you want your child to grow up, being a spoiled poodle just like ur pets at home, then go ahead and put them on a leash. Parents, using proper parenting skills, can make their children stay with the rest of the family.

I mean, leashes are for dogs, not people....unless young children are not people too in your book. That would be VERY sad. I'm not judging, and nothing against you, but IMHO, people who have a prejudice against young children are very stubborn and self centered. Just breaks my heart.

I better get my baby out of his crib then, since it's so cagelike and inhumane....:rolleyes1

I'm sorry; I didn't mean it in THAT way. But whatever...you were probabily never hugged by ur father so you wouldn't understand my perspective of life.

woof, woof
my mom used a leash because i was a runner and she had another baby so it was leash or lost and i turned out fine (just ask my PO-jk). dont judge what others do to keep their child safe. unless you have had a runner or felt the panic of a lost child in a crowd you can not comprehend. my sister is an excellent mother and her son is a runner. there are times he will not sit in the stroller and he has run from her and she has had to chase him. he actually almost ran inf ront of a truck pulling into a parking spot last weekend with 3 adults right next to him (my own DS6 was right next to him.) he just doesn't get it. he sees something and darts. he will grow out of it (he is 2) but if she used a safety backpack, not one person who knows her son would see it as a leash, but as a safety restraint system which is what he needs. don"t be harsh. The op has her child's safety in mind. she isn't talking about using it to walk down the street to the park but in a huge theme park where there are hundreds of people moving at a time. there was no need for large letters, it was impolite. it is ok to have an opinion, but dont bash others over the head with it.

I agree, I think a theme park is so much different than just walking down to the park. We are taking my now 14 month old when he is 17 months old. When we are here at home, he has to hold our hands. However, we are tall and he is short. We have to stoop pretty low to hold his hand. I do not want to do that for 8 days in a crowded theme park. Maybe that's selfish of me, but it's my vacation too and I don't want to be there the whole time with a backache. If we want him to get out of his stroller and get exercise without killing our backs, then we need to use the leash. When he stops acting like a puppy (running off) we will stop treating him like a puppy. :) But until then, we will do what we can to keep our cute little guy safe.

To the OP, we got the bear backpack leash at Target.

We have season passes to Silver Dollar City and Celebration City in Branson, so we are there alot. Once we decided to go by SDC on a whim while we were in Branson, we hadn't brought a stroller or his "Leash". The poor boy had bruises on his arm from us trying to keep him from running every time he saw something interesting. (I felt so terrible the next day.) On another occasion we were at CC w/ my DS, DBIL and 2 DN. We watched the fireworks show and started picking every thing up. I looked up and Thomas was gone, in just a second he was gone. There were four adults and in just a second in the crowd he was gone. It was the worst 5-10 minutes of my life (it felt like an eternity). Once I got him back, all I could do was cry. He never even knew he was lost.

Until your child has been missing, you are in no position to judge.

BTW, back in the day, my parents used them at Six Flags, TX. Early to mid seventies. And back then, you didn't worry as much about child abduction, molestation or murder.

I will use the leash and no one can make me feel bad about it!

Coolio,
OMG, You have no clue!!! " Back in the day" we didnt have cell phones, pagers, vcrs just to name a few. The crime and child predators were also much lower. You cannot judge someone for wanting to keep their child safe. Not that I even want to think that there could be a bad person at Disneyworld but it can happen.
Several years ago we went on vacation and my daughter was 3. She was not a runner but she knew NO stranger. She would have gone with anyone who talked to her. I did not feel bad at all about having an action plan. We had a leash that she could ask to put on her wrist if she wanted to explore. We called it her " POWER BRACELET " If she had her power bracelet on she knew she had the power to be a few feet away from me. I explaned to her that I had the other end of the bracelet at all times. She felt like a big girl.
I thought I would get looks from people but I really didnt care. I had more people ask me where I got it and they wished they had one too.
More power to the OP!!!!

I not only used a leash - I used a triple leash and double leash as needed when my children were toddlers.

We leash our dogs to keep the safe and secure with us, I think our children are even more important.

Thanks to everyone for sharing what has worked for them. I knew about the backpack restraint but hadn't heard of the wrist ones. Off to check out the stores!! DD is tiny, fast, and fearless :cutie:
