You have to understand that the prevaling viewpoint in many countries is the US vs. everyone else or the Western World vs. everyone else. I think that their perception is, perhaps the invasion was a bit arbitray. There are plenty of countries with terrorists, civil war, etc. We went to the UN, who weren't really that behind the US, and then we did whatever we wanted to anyway. They fear that if the US turned its Eye on their country, they would be defenseless.

Also, the anti-foreign sentiment is higher in some areas of America than others. The Middle Eastern and Indian students hear comments on a weekly basis about being Bin Laden supporters, cans and bottles thrown at them in the parking lot, etc. Some of the Muslim females have had their scarves ripped right off their heads on the EL. I guess their perception is that Bush is not a big fan of anyone who is not American and so goes Bush-so goes America. This is their perception. They are a long way from home.

I told the Filipinos that there country was probably safe since the US wouldn't travel that far for no benefit. I told the Pakistani that if Bin Laden turns up in Pakistan and it comes to light that Pakistanis have been helping him, I would be nervous for his country. I told the Koreans that their dilemma was on the back burner for now, no matter how crazy Kim Jong Il is. Just my opinion.

How do I get past this?

Speak Up!!

Communicate with your Senators & Representative. Tel them how you feel on issues & what you want THEM (your employees) to do for YOU (the one who can hire/fire them). Be an active participant in Government!!

Personally, I just don't know why ANYONE would want to be President. The best you are gonna' do is tie. Never win because no matter WHAT you do, ther are ALWAYS going to be a heck of a lot of people pissed off at you.

FYI: I would've posted the same response to a Republican if that had been the case.

She got some good advice. I'm glad for her.

Even so, they're still the winner.

I am sorry that you feel so disappointed. But really the President doesn't have universal control. There are checks and balances everywhere. For example, Laws can't be passed until they go through committes, debated in the House and Senate, agreed upon, and signed by the President. Then the bureaucracy controls funding. Even if the President vetoes a bill, Congress can pass it with a 2/3 vote. So write Congress, write your representatives.

Local issues effect your life a lot. Get involved. Work at polls. Write or call reminding people to vote. Did you know that you can even write a bill and if you get enough people to sign it, you can actually bring it up to be voted on??? (called initiative, I think or referendum). As a citizen, you have power. Get out and do something. Pick a particular issue and find a grassroots organization that deals with it.

At the beginning of Senator Kerry's concession speech, he said we needed to unite. The only way we will be able to make any progress is to compromise and work together. Let's let go of our differences and start these 4 years fresh.

Isn't it great that we can have these political discussions without worrying that we will be shot?? (Stalin day Russia) That we can vote?? That Presidential terms are limited?? Our nation truly is great and the best part is that we can always work to improve it!

Try to imagine what we did when Clinton won re-election in '96.

We were convinced that Clinton had won in 92 based on highly debatable terms, just as you are sure you should have won in 00.

We felt that Perot had cost us the election - after all he got 20% of the vote. You feel that Nader cost you the election even though he got only 2% in 00.

We felt that an unethical decision by Lawrence Welsh in raising the Iran/Contra indictments 3 days before the election cost Bush 41 the election.

We felt that Clinton was a totally unworthy president, but we fielded a weak candidate in Dole. You fielded a really unwinnable candidate in Kerry. Dole was head and shoulders above Kerry in all respects, but he was not good enough to unseat an incumbant president.

But, I will tell you one thing we did NOT do. We never turned against our country. We never supported our enemies. We never used foreign policy as a partisan weapon.

What you need to do is examine your agenda. You need to recognize that the far-left aganda of the modern democrat party is completely out of step with the majority of Americans. If you want to continue your radical pursuit of a hedonistic, socialist society you are going to continue to fail miserably.

You call us radical right wing - but in reality, we are right in the mainstream of traditional American values. You want to change America into something that America does not accept. You are either going to have to be more patient, or you are going to have to explain why we should change.

Otherwise, it is going to be a long couple of decades for you.

I hope you find your senses.

Very well said...Thanks!

Uh, what did I post on this thread that made me seem spiteful? And, why on earth would acepepper be grouped with the rest of us?

Did I miss something on here?

Dang...I just clicked on the last page of this thread. Now I gotta go back and read how acepepper got on that list.

Same thing happened to me. I'll never get those minutes back either.

It doesn't even make sense to put my name in that post. I never once mentioned George Bush or my support of him. Heck, I didn't even talk about Ted Bundy's chromosomes. (?!?) I questioned a person comparing their feelings to that of a suicide bomber over the election results. It's a bipartisan argument if you want to make it political.

I'm still scratching my head about being grouped with acepepper...

I never mentioned George Bush or my support of him either. I merely responded to an extreme statement. And it was extreme. Thoughts of violence, rage, and helplessness over a lost election no matter how someone trys to deconstruct the intent, is still way over the top.

No matter what party you belong to.

* I think acepepper was on the list of names by mistake. And really, taking names and making demands. Is that called for?

:smooth: Boy! Someone needs to pm Ace and let him know he is being piled with the conservatives!

I am really sorry that you are feeling crappy! I have felt that during elections on occasion, and it stinks. I would have felt the same way if Kerry had won. (I hope that is okay to say)

I do have to say, though that my boys know more about being a gracious winner or loser than many of the folks on this board!

Sorry, I missed the Kerry supporters only sign. I stayed away from that thread, because it was clear. This thread had no conditions on participating.

And I'm not a spiteful winner, I am a greatful and happy winner.

And why am I number three on the list! I demand a recount!

Also since acepepper is on the list, I publically take back every negative comment I have ever made about him, and welcome him into the brotherhood.

I really feel very upset about this election. I don't mean that it wasn't fair, but I honestly felt that Bush needed to go. I felt it very strongly!!

How do I get past this? How can I feel I'm being spoken for or represented in this country? This is one of the worst days I can remember.....:(

Babar--I feel the same way, which is why I came to the thread on the Community Board for "Fellow Kerry Supporters." Boy, did that make me feel even worse as most of the people posting on there were Bush supporters and the vast majority of them were just rubbing our noses in it. A few of them were gracious winners, but like this thread, most of them just were condescending and rude. So my first piece of advice would be to stay off this thread and find a private forum that truly is Kerry Supporters. These forums are great if you want to debate, but you have to have the stomach for it and I don't at the moment.

The other piece of advice I have is to get involved in politics even more. I originally felt like my volunteer efforts were all for naught, but now I want to get even more involved so my voice will be heard. I know I'm not alone since 55 million people voted the same as I did. I am going to rejoin a local group in our area called Mainstream Coalition by a Presbyterian minister that was started several years ago in response to the Christian Coalition. The Mainstream Coalition is made up of mostly moderate Republicans.

I wasn't very happy with my 5th place showing either. I just KNOW that thousands of the ballots with my name on them were simply tossed in the trash. I'm dispatching a team of lawyers to oversee this recount.

Now what am I going to say to all my disenfranchised supporters? And how did dmadman43 make the top of the list?!? He STOLE the election!
