Sorry for my ignorance, but it sounds like the pressed pennies are a great way to keep a 6 year old boy happy. Can someone explain the concept? (Do I bring a roll....?)

(Leaving on 1/5 with 6 and 2 year olds.)

Pressed pennies were a wonderful surprise for us! We just returned with our 5 yo and he loved them...definately his favorite souvenier of the trip and he had a great time collecting them.

We didn't bring a roll...we just used the change in our pockets and purses and backbacks...

I offer 2 hints....first, make sure if you do bring a roll to make sure the pennies are shiny..they are definately nicer with clean pennies and second, buy the book right away. We didn't pick up a pressed penny book until later and lost a few pennies along the way.

Bless you for the information!

Of course, I have more questions...

Can I pick up the book to put them in in any of the shops?

How much does it cost to press? (Should I also have a roll of quarters!?)

Thanks so much!!!

I am sure you can get a book at most stores, or if you are staying on site, you can get one at the store at your resort.

It will cost 51 cents per pressed penny, you may bring a roll of quarters, but you probally will have them just lying in your pockets.

Bring along a film cannister or a M&M minis tube and stack your money in it (two quarters, one penny, two quarters, one penny, etc). That way you are ready to roll. We put most of our purchases on our debit card and hence carry very little cash/change. It was a pain in the neck to have to get change at the register every time we found a machine. I highly suggest carrying quarters and pennies around specifically for this purpose! And bring along more than you think you will need! Most machines can make about three different designs. As such we made many more pennies than we originally planned. The books are available in most gift shops throughout WDW. Right near the autograph books usually. (Remember to put your name and address label on it in case you misplace it!).
It was truly a highlight of our first family WDW trip, especially since our kids were afraid of more of the rides than we anticipated. It was like a treasure hunt to try and find these machines..................P

My DD filled up one and a half books this last trip. We got one book at the Grand Floridian gift shop and she got a roll of shiny new pennies with that (I was sitting downstairs with the pager waiting for a page for our dinner, so I don't know if DH paid extra for those extra shiny pennies or what). We got the second one at MGM gift shop and we did not get a roll with that one. The penny books are all over the place with different covers.

The pressed penny book is a great souvenir for kids. Last year my family went to WDW and my two boys (8 and 5 at the time) loved the pressed penny books that we got them. They got more out of them than the Autograph books. My DW and I are heading down to PC for our second honeymoon really soon and when he heard that PC has a pressed penny machine, my oldest son (now 10) asked if we could get him one for his collection.
