I'm just not sure where to post this....the exchange board is DEFINITELY not for this...

however:

IF you rent points from a DVC member, can they only be used for the villas/deluxe accommodations? Can't they be used for Contemporary or Poly or even POP or budget villas? I'm obviously a newbie and hev been reading everything I can but don't see anything regarding renting other than deluxe spots. :confused3 sorry if I'm clogging up your boards but I'm a stranger here myself......;)

They can be used for some of the WDW hotels, not those with a DVC attached and not values. So GF, Poly, YC, moderates. The points amounts required are very high (because they are a tradeout) and there is also a $95 reservation fee. Not worth it to rent points for those hotels.

You can't get a regular room in any resort that has DVC accomodations associated with them - so the Contemporary is out. You can use rented points to stay at the other resorts (although I don't see the values listed). BUT there is a $95 transaction fee that is charged by Disney when you do this AND it really isn't a good use of points - FOR EXAMPLE - you need 24 points for 1 night at Caribbean Beach in a Standard room during the summer, or you could use 24 points at the same time for a CONCIERGE Level room at AKV.

Using DVC points for anything other than DVC villas, especially in a rental situation, would not be worth it. And, Disney has been currently offering some great discounts so it would make the value even worse.

If your desire is to stay at a place like Poly, GF, or even a moderate, you are in a much better position to just book a cash stay via Disney, then to find a DVC owner to rent you that reservation.

As already mentioned, there is a $95 fee and if you needed to make changes (I think even with names), it could generate another fee. Plus, once a DVC member uses points for one of those options, the points can not be put back to be used for DVC reservations, so making it a much riskier situation for the owner.

Good luck!
