Sorry, I have to ask this height question.

How strict are they at US/IOA for their height requirements? I have a son that'll be within an inch of the 48" and had his heart set on riding the Mummy. I could probably add an insole to his shoes and make him tall enough, but 1) I want him to be safe, and 2) I don't want there to be a scene at the ride line.

I know, I should just tell him to wait until next time...but I have to ask.

I would count on them being VERY strict. They need to be. Heaven forbid something would happen to him....they would be entirely to blame. I notice all theme parks really being careful with respect to the height requirements.

The good news, however, is that height is measured with shoes. So go ahead and put him in those platform sneaks, I won't tell! That....and tell him to eat his spinach!

that is a good point. i would say that it also depends on the ride. my son is like 53 and 1/2 inches and is dying to get on the hulk? if i get him shoes that boosts him an inch will this put him at risk?

I think the ultimate goal in setting a height requirement is dictating the distance between the ground and the top of the head. So it shouldn't matter whether they touch the ground with a bare foot or a half inch of sneaker-sole, as long as they touch the ground with something. (ok, maybe not stilts, but you KWIM!)

and check them for insoles? They did that at Cedar Point a few years ago...(we weren't cheating by the way). It must be a fairly common occurrence.

they do not check that i am aware of for soles put in shoes.

dr. scholls would be out of business then.......

the main concern about the height is the safety factor.

the seat belt needs to hit the body at a certain section for safety reasons.

if the seat belt restrainer hit the person around the neck, that would not be too wise or safe.

yea, i am guilty of the napkins in the shoes trick when my kids were over 6 and short.........they were short legged but long torso wise.

Yes they are strict. They once checked my son at MIB 3 times. He was tall enough and had ridden it before but they still checked him several times.

my youngest DS(6) is 3" shy without shoes, hope he has a growth spurt before Christmas!!!

Just put your child in normal shoes and try the height. If they are not tall enough, they are not tall enough. Try not to yell at the attendant, as it's not his or her fault.

I'd never be upset with the attendant for doing their jobs, just wondered how strictly they enforced it.

Went 2 days ago and my nephew was a just under that bar and they wouldnt let him on the mummy. So they are extremely strict. When I was there last time at JP River there was a little girl that was just shy under it and they wouldnt let her ride either.

You'd be surprised how common that is--people get upset because the TM is doing their job. :confused3

And no, they won't make anyone take off their shoes. Put them on, yes. I've had it more than once where shoes made *just enough* of a difference.

When we last went back in 2004,i did'nt understand why my daughter got thru one height requirement for Jimmy Neutron but then inside they said she was'nt tall enough and we had to sit in the static seating area:confused3 .Could the height measurements be wrong and out by an inch or so?.x.

The wrist band is a good question. As of the last time we were there, which wasn't that long ago (AP Holders), there was no wrist band. Your child had to be measured at each attraction.

They tried the wristband thing many many many years ago. The system got abused to the point of stoppage.

That just made me lol. :rotfl2:
