I live in MS and when I read this my first thought was $300 would cover the bridesmaid dress, accessories, shower and very nice gift, Geeeez. I have hosted bridal and baby showers in my home and probably spent $150 on all the food. How many bridesmaids does she have? It is just interesting to see how much things cost in other areas.

I would just ask her if it would be OK for you to get back with her about the cost for catering or having parties in your area. She doesn't understand how expensive it is there--especially if she is from the South. That amount of money from 8 bridemaids would cover half the cost for a wedding reception here.

Just say something like, "that sounds like a great idea and so much fun, would you like for me to get back with you about some prices, because I think you will find everything here in Jersey is expensive and you will find that $300 will not get us very far. I think it is great idea but may I suggest $$$$." As an 'experienced' bridesmaid she should appreciate your help. Offer to help her spearhead the event since she is not familiar. She is trying to do the Maid of Honor job and get everyone organized and is probably at this point wanting some advice.
