do the dings ever go on the early am flights? seems to be the afternoon ones.

Sure, you can get Ding! fares flights at various times. Lately they've done a lot of flight-specific offers, but I've had good luck with early morning (and late evening) Ding! offers from ALB to both MCO and BWI.
