 I am still trying to figure out the AP stuff- please bear with me. Ok, so I know that the AP is good for one year, but when does that year begin? Is it when I purchase the ticket, or when I use it for the first time? I am planning on ordering the AP and having it mailed to me before my trip, but if it starts when I order it, I would want to wait until closer to my trip, kwim?

Thanks everyone,
Lisa

When ordered by phone or web site, you will get a voucher. You must exchange that voucher at WDW to get the actual AP. Your year will start the day you exchange that voucher. Actual entrance into a park that day is immaterial.

When you purchase the AP in FL at WDW or any of the several other locations in that state that sell APs, you get the actual AP and your year starts the day you buy it.

Got it- thanks. One related question, though- if I order the DDE, do the dates for that coincide with the AP dates? IE, the date doesn't start until my AP is activated?

TIA,
Lisa

No, unfortunately, DDE card starts somewhere between when you order it and when it is processed and mailed. Some people that ordered it in January got an extention until February, etc. So, if you plan on activating your AP's in October, I would wait until September to order it. However, they have been taking forever to send them out, so you probably won't get the actual card in time. You would need to go to Epcot to pick up a temporary card or you can have them mail you a letter. They won't email a letter anymore because people were abusing the system somehow with the emailed letters.

Check your AP as soon as you get it to be sure the expiration date is indeed correct. Occasionally mistakes are made.

Note that renewing AP's at a discount has been corrected so the next AP properly picks up where the previous one left off. You can always buy new AP's whenever you want as opposed to do renewals.
