Sore throat.... with day 2 update

OK - I'm a teacher who has just had a very hard last half-term and it's perfectly normal for me to get a sore throat the day we break up and right on cue, it's here! I feel fine, no cough, sneezes, no runny nose and no muscle aches. I'm so worried Virgin will turn me away on Friday!!!

Also, if i'm not allowed BACK into the country, do I have to pay for additional hotel nights or do my insurance cover it? or do i just camp out out the airport?

Tuesday : sore throat gone to be replaced with running nose. Temp still completely normal!!!

Get some chicken soup and take it easy for a few days. It's probably just the stress of the last few days at work and such. I'm sure all will be fine by Friday

Your holiday insurance will cover you according to someone who was on GMTV this morning.

Also if Virgin checkout staff suspect you are unwell, they will call a doctor who will be able to spot you do not have swine flu, but a sore throat.

Google virgin swine flu, I read it yesterday.



A girl at work phoned in this morning saying she thought she had swine flu. You could put money on that it would be her who would be poorly first.

I wasn't very sympathetic and told her to ring her GP. It turns out, all she has got is a sore throat. Apparently if you have swine flu, all the symptoms appear more or less at the same time and you know you have it, as you are very poorly like you would be with proper flu. Hence my reference to the VA doctor being able to spot a sore throat.

I'm a teacher, so I know all about the 'crash and burn' at the end of term. From what I have read, Swine Flu doesn't creep up on you but hits you with everything pretty much within 24 hours - aches, shivers, fever, cold etc. My guess is that your symptoms are more to do with tiredness and the excitement of an impending holiday.

It is indeed true about being run down at the end of term,,, we push ourselves that hard that as soon as we relax we get hit with some kind of illness.

OP I totally understand how you feel, one of my colleagues who I share a classroom with was diagnosed with the swine flu last Tuesday, then I got a text from my brother in law a couple of days ago telling me that he was really ill and also had swine flu..

Of course I am concerned for them both, but I have been panicking ever since in case my trip is jeopardized (sorry I know that sounds really selfish ) I felt a bit feverish the other night and convinced myself I was gonna get it... I was perfectly fine the next morning though haha!

Fingers crossed we all stay healthy

your insurance wll only cover you as long as you have a doctors certficate sayng swine flu

take your temperature, if its above 38 then call nhs direct as thats the main thing they look for

i called my doc this morning as i have all symptoms except high temp and i'm pregnant so extra worried. docs said as long as temp dont go up to 38 its a normal cold

Thanks you guys - you've made me feel so much better. I have no other symptoms other than the sore throat (and i'm convinced that's with all the talking on the last day of term).

I hadn't realised that all the symptoms come at once!! Makes me feel ok with it all.

I'm also happy that it'd be a doctor to decide if I have it, rather than an un-medically trained check-in operative (no offence intended!)

Oh well ! Let's see what happens by Friday!

Another teacher here! (What is it with teachers escaping to WDW??)

I swear by hot water, honey and lemon. Vile and I hate it, but it will make your throat better. Alternate it with some Beechams hot lemon/black currant and you'll be fine. A few extra hours in bed in the morning would not go amiss either

I teach in primary, heading to P6 next year after 7 years with infants. I think it is very refreshing that so many of us are teachers.

What more could you look for in a teacher than a love of disney? Tis the sign of a good heart! I think the school inspectors should designate credit for it!

Have someone else do the talking for you at the check in desk! Hopefully you will have no problem.

Not a teacher, but I'm a TA in a year 1 class. We've got a nasty bug going through the school at the moment - it's been assumed is swine flu, but health service diagnosing on symptoms alone now.

I've had a sore throat for days (it comes and goes) but am hoping I'll be allowed on the plane on Monday.

Last day at school tomorrow - I do get such a sense of foreboding walking into school at the moment, it's as if I'm playing Russian Roulette with my holiday.

Still, as upset as I will be (an I would be VERY upset) if my holiday has to be cancelled, it really is such a small upset in the scheme of things. My next door neighbour died last weekend which has really thrown my worries into perspective.
