I've had just about the worst sore throat I've ever had in my life since Sunday. I've already been tested for strep and it came back negative :confused3

I've been drinking tons of tea - which helps temporarily. Halls throat lozenges taste disgusting to me so I don't take those.

Any other idea's? Today was the first day I've been fever free - but the throat thing is just out of control. It's actually starting to hurt my ears when I swallow now.

Take 2 or 3 Advil. Thought ought to take give some relief. Sorry to hear you're not feeling well. Hang in there!

I've been fighting a similar sorethroat. It's driving me nuts especially when I'm trying to get ready (and be healthy) for our upcoming cruise.

Drinking tons of water helps me the most! Good luck. :)

I'm sorry you are still feeling bad....

Around here we gargle with warm salt water about every 30 minutes (or how ever often you can handle it). That usually does it for us.

I can't take the regular Halls, but I can handle the Halls Fruit Breezers, they aren't as offensive to me.

I hope you find something that works for you and feel better soon!

the only thing that I feel takes away that sore throat pain...is Aspriagum, I think that stuff wrks excellent to take the edge off!

That's what my DH does, but I can't do it. :crazy2:

Heather--OMG!! I have it too!!! My eyes hurt and I am sooooo tired!! I haven't had a fever, but I feel like I have one.

Same with me-hot tea, broth, soup, etc.

Maybe we can just float away and leave our throats behind...

This is the first remedy I thought of, not the nicest, but usually helps.

Of course, over here in Ireland we swear by hot whiskey! Warm the glass, pop in a shot of decent whiskey, add a spoonful of sugar and top up with boiling water. Add some cloves if you like the flavour.
Keep going till you feel better ;) No, only kidding, but one of those does really have a positive effect!

I discovered Chloraseptic Spray when I was a teenager with Mono...it gives temporary but very welcome relief!

I know, it is awful! Sometimes it just doesn't hurt bad enough to go through it! But is does work....

I've had a sore throat for 2 months. :( I can't seem to get any better, we all just keep reinfecting each other in my house. The ironic part was when I was a smoker (quit 2 years ago) I never got a sore throat. I quit smoking, and every year I've had at least one occurrence, usually several.

What helps me is gargling with warm salt water as well as a heating pad on my throat.

That just put the funniest image in my head of you leaning back in a chair with a cigarette dangling from one hand, a drink in the other, and a heating pad wrapped around your neck. :rotfl2:

You sound like my FIL:

"Nothing a good shot of WHISKEY can't fix"!!! :rotfl2:

the old time remedy of warm salt water--does it every time--every half to every hour

Clorasceptic has lozenges too, these are soothing.

I also have tried gargling with hot water with a dash of tobasco.
Very numbing. Just don't lick your lips afterward.

I agree that advil is the best for sore throats. I have the biggest, gnarliest, ugliest tonsils on the planet and when I get a sore throat it's always a doozie. Advil is the best pain reliever for it in addition to the other topical remedies mentioned here.

Did they do the quick test for strep or the regular test? The quick test is quick, but not always the most reliable.

When I had strep throat my throat was SO sore. I could hardly even swallow my own spit and I was horribly sick. Of course it was a weekend when my DH was out of town most of the weekend and my youngest was a toddler. The only thing that sounded good to eat/drink or should I say slurp down was egg drop soup. It added a little nutrition with eggs and it seemed to coat the throat.

I tried other drops, etc, but the soup was something that actually tasted good.

I hope you feel better soon.

I woke up with a sore throat this morning, it feels raw. I think mine is due to the post nasal drip, it's not painful, but horribly irritated. I went to the grocery store and bought a sore throat remedy from Tylenol, which tastes horrible, but it did help. I'm due for another dose soon... :crazy2: :crazy2:

I had some chicken soup for lunch today, I almost screamed when I swallowed because of the irritation. I haven't had any dinner yet, I have chills now.

The water and salt gargles always help with the pain, sometimes I have added an aspirin to the mixture.

I hope all of you feel better soon! :sunny:
