I purchased a new Sorcerer Annual Pass September 8th. My profile shows the AP with an expiration date of Sept 7th, 2022. I have not activated the pass, I have no plans to visit Disney World until April 24th, 2022. In the past the clock didn't start ticking on an AP before it was activated at the park. I obviously wouldn't have purchased an AP more than 7 months ahead of time if I thought it would expire 1 year from the date of purchase. I have emailed Disney, but have not received a response.
Had anyone else experienced this?

You have one year from date of purchase to activate your pass That's the date you're seeing. Once you've activated your pass you have one year to use it ...that will be a different expiration date.

To make park reservations.
I get that, but 7 months out? I can see maybe 2 or 3, or max 4. I haven’t seen anyone report difficulty getting park reservations. I mean every park is open next month except the 1st and 31st, every day the next month, and every single day in December. That’s the height of the 50th and the entire holiday season.

I did in the past with no issue, basically to lock in a price. Disney always raises ticket prices the first of the year.
Ok, well I guess I’d rather keep my money than give it to Disney to hang on to for months. If that’s the case, then why not buy in December?

Anyway, your sandbox, your toys. I believe someone else actually answered your question.

Thanks, that's what I was hoping.

Is this new? In the past we have bought passes and they would say expire several years down the road. Although we were buying them to use within 4-6 months.

There are some people who bought maybe ten passes 5 years ago when they were "only" $450 and not $900. Are they out the money?

I think it's new with the new passes this month. And for those who bought annual passes years ago their passes will be converted to the equivalent current pass when they activate it. So an exchange certificate for an Epcot after 4:00 or weekday select becomes a pixie dust pass, a theme park select pass or a silver pass becomes a Disney pirate pass, a gold pass becomes a sorcerer pass, and a platinum pass or a platinum plus becomes an incredi pass

Different people do Disney a different way.

My biggest tip for friends is when they start planning a trip to Disney, start buying gift cards. If you see a deal, or can get them from a big box store for a discount, just start buying. You can combine and do other things.

I say that because if you are planning a trip a year out, and you visit Sam's once a month and buy $75 in gift cards, you can build up $900 in gift cards in a year.

Add in that any gifts you may be getting should be Disney cards...

My kids each gave my wife a Disney Gift card for mother's day one year. She thought it was perfect...

Well, people had that idea to wait until closer to trips in 2020 and then the sales were suspended without notice.

Many got caught without them so I bet there are a lot more people who aren’t willing to chance it again.

If you have a Target Red card you can always get 5% off. Every little thing helps!
