i booked two one bedroom suites for the July 4 week at VWL, which is our home resort. Now I'm fretting re the construction. Add in that my wife is lamenting the loss of the villas pool which she really enjoys.

Have we made a mistake? I'm worried more so for my daughter's young family who were so looking forward to enjoying the lodge.

IMO yes you made a mistake. Disney is moving guests away from VWL during construction and you decided to stay there, I would try for somewhere else.

July is still a long time away. It's difficult to say exactly what they will have accomplished by that time although I don't think that you can count on the new Villa Pool been completed. What I think would be reasonable to not experience during that time will be any loud construction work. The tree removal should be finished, actually I'd expect that to be finished very soon. My own personal expectation is that the new Villa Pool will be one of the first things that they finish up although Disney seems to move at a snails pace on these things which is why don't think that it would be ready by July. If you have a concern perhaps you do want to try a different resort this year and move if anything else is available. I don't think it will be a visit like you've had in the past but I don't think it should be extremely disruptive noise wise for that holiday.

I suspect you can count on the new pool NOT being complete, between the pool construction and the stuff they're allegedly putting around it, which will require some additional infrastructure work. Maybe I'll be surprised and be wrong.

I would absolutely move. There are a lot of nice quiet pools. We think the quiet pool at Kidani is fantastic and they still have a Savanah view 2bdr during the week of thec4th. The bus service is also great since it starts at Kidani. The resort is very quiet and beautiful. We were booked at VWL for January but waitlist ed for BLT a got all days within 2 weeks at 5 months. We ended up adding a day to the beginning at AKV

GOOD LUCK
JUDY

I also vote for kidani at AKL. We stayed there for a week last july in a savannah view 2 bedroom and were very happy. There's lots to do as a family there. So much to keep a young family busy and the pool there is perfect for younger children.

I heard you all. Someone's pics on the touring plans blog really tipped me to Kidani. It looked like a war zone. So off to AKL we go. We all should have such problems. Now we just have to rethink much of our ressies and itinerary since the advantage of being in WL was the boat access to MK, most of our plans, especially the Fourth wee centered there. Any suggestions appreciated!

Thanks to all for your thoughtful recommendations.

You have used the words "anxiety", "fretting", "lamenting", "mistake" and "worried" in your short post. Clearly the construction will be an issue for you, and I would suggest booking elsewhere. Good luck! :)

Ah there is an Italian saying .. 'dietro logia" (sp) ... Loosely translated means the "message behind the music." If for example, someone says "I see you washed your hair today." It could mean that person doesn't think you wash your hair often enough. I guess another term for what you point out is heuristics? In any case I'm glad you pointed my wording out to me since I for sure didn't realize that I was using such "concern" words! And I'm glad that I did book elsewhere! Thanks!

How does booking at Kidani influence your itinerary planning?

It really does not influence us because we never stay there without a rental car. The only negative for us about the resort is that if you do not have a car, it can take some time to use the Disney transport. Saying that, it would never stop me from staying there, I would just make sure to factor in the additional travel time to/from the parks.
