We were just assigned a room and we were assigned 7138, I am sooooooooooooooo upset right now. 1. the room is normally for handicapped which none of us are and 2. there is a solid wall all around our Veranda that we paid so much extra $$$ for to have....uuuggghhhh..... :guilty:

I am totally bummed right now

Have you tried to call them and get a differant state room? On our last cruise I called to change my room and it was never a problem. They are open until 10:00 tonight, that way you don't have to stress about it all night.

I got a peek in a handicap room the last time we were on the magic - it was much larger than what I was staying in. But I can also see your disappointment on the verandah. Do try to call them - it has been my experience with DCL that they will try and make it right for you.

I had that room!! The room is very large and the verandah is very big also...on the verandah there were 2 lounge chairs, a big table and 3 chairs! Regular size verandahs only have 2 chairs and a tiny table. It is a solid white one though and that IMO is a drawback!

That's a huge stateroom with a huge verandah -- much larger than a usual Category 5.

It's not like the verandah edge is 6 feet high -- it's simply solid below the railing and open air above it, just like you find on sightseeing boats. (Even with a DCL plexiglass verandah, the good view is above the railing, not through the vertical slats and the smeary, seaspray-covered plexiglass.)

The view from your verandah should be wonderful. You can look to the side or to the stern. I really like that view from the outdoor seating area of the buffet, two levels above your stateroom.

I would be thrilled to get 7138 if I had a Category 5 GTY.

Disclaimer: I've never been in 7138, so I'm going by the deck plan and my experience with a Category 6 stateroom on the Disney Magic.

That stateroom is right next to the secret deck on 7. The view was wonderful from the SD so I would imagine it would be great from that room as well. It does look much larger from the plans.

Horace Horsecollar made an excellent point, the plexiglass is suppose to be see through but with the sea spray all over it, it is a smudge up mess and the good view is over the railing just like the verandah you were assigned. I have also read that the handicap rooms are a lot larger than the non-handicap room. Kathy

yes, i know the room is alot bigger but i like the plexiglass wall instead. when i sit and drink my tea in the morning i can see out under the railing. with the solid wall i won't be able to enjoy it as much..sorry i am making such a fuss but i am totally bummed. :charac2:

i am going to call dcl and see what if anything they can or are willing to do, but i don't they will do much. i guess it is worth a try though.

thanks all for listening

I agree, the plexiglas does not offer much of a view,I'd always stand for what little time I spent out there.

I'm sorry you are upset. I agree with the others that you have gotten a good room. You are entitled to your feelings, but it may not be as bad as you are anticipating.

In our cat 4 room recently, we were hardly ever on the veranda anyway (even though I had foreseen champagne breakfasts and private wine and cheese evenings--that was not our reality.)

Also, when I was on the veranda, I could not sit and look out under the rail through the plexiglass. It did something to my equilibrium. If I was out there, I was always standing at the rail. Most of the time, I was not in the room at all, but racing around the ship!

IMO, I'd risk it and take the chance that the bigger room and bigger veranda would more than make up for the solid rail. But if you want to change, I bet someone else would be glad to switch to that one.

But if you booked a guarantee....isn't it always a you get what you get situation? If you wanted a specific kind of balcony, why didn't you book a specific room?

I know how you feel about the plexi vs. solid verandah. We had the cabin right next to that on our last cruise. Trust me--the verandah is so much larger for that cabin that you will likely not notice much difference. Yes, it will be different than a plexi, but for the additional size and convenience I think you will enjoy it.

Have a great cruise!

Not everyone has the choice to book a specific cabin all the time..sometimes you just have to take a GTY.

But...to the OP...I would love to have such a larger cabin and verandah....we have had the solid wall veranda several times and it has never detracted from our enjoyment of the cruise....and as Horace as said...very often the plexi is covered in sea salt and hard to see through.

Hope you can enjoy your cruise.

I know what you mean about feeling bummed...we were assigned 6648 which has the solid metal railing and I too am very upset. The cabin is no bigger than ususal and the verandah is not much deeper than one with plexiglass, so we don't even get a positive tradeoff.

I have a 3 year old who will see nothing but sky unless I lift her up - which I don't really want to do. Also I believe that the plexiglass would give you a more open feel to the cabin regardless of how smudged it is.

The ship is fully booked (sailing 12/28) and Disney says there is nothing to be done. I started a thread on this (Solid white wall verandah vs plexiglass) and it seems to me that first time cruisers with a guarantee (not an assigned cabin) get stuck with these verandahs! Grrrr!

But the cruisers who didn't book gty booked earlier.

If you want a specific room or specific qualities (including early dinner), you need to plan ahead enough that they will be available. With DCL this is often a year or more in advance.

My goodness people, is this what it's all coming down to? A plexi vs. wall verandah? I dont think there is any room to complain on a GTY cabin - if you didn't want one of those rooms, you should've booked a plexi verandah to begin with.

I have to agree with the two posters above. If you want a specific cabin then book it. If you buy a guarantee then you get whatever they give you. You have nothing to be mad about. Guarantee staterooms cost less than if you purchase a specific stateroom and the reason is that you take what they give you in whatever category you purchased.

Ummm, Guarantee staterooms cost exactly the same as a specific stateroom.

I had a solid verandah last cruise, whilst given the choice I would have had plexi-glass, it really didn't bother me too much and given the trade off for the larger verandah I'd grab it in a heart-beat....more space can only be a good thing in my book :)

If anything, gty is often a little more expensive, as it isn't an option until the ship gets to a certain booking level. Since prices increase as the ship gets more full.....

Some people choose to book gty when given a choice because it is believed it increases your chance for an upgrade. But most people end up with gty when the category gets fairly booked up -- of course people booking when they still have choices often make the popular choices - early dining, plexiglass veranadas, mid ship, SPH rooms, etc -- so these things aren't available for later bookers.

Of course some early bookers make less popular choices - but because they are popular, they still sell out faster.
