We are anxiously awaiting a report of your run!!!!

FYI -- Evansmom ran in a relay this past Sunday for the Flying Pig marathon in Cincinnati Oh. If I remember correctly she ran and then finished walking in with her Dad, completing a total of 13.2 miles!!!

Lots of WISH walkers want to hear all about it!!!!:wave2: :teeth: :cheer2:

So did both of your Dad's do this marathon ???

Evansmom -- Congrats on the wonderful accomplishment :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc We're all very proud of you.

well, the marathon, as i'm sure ohmom knows had the most horrific weather possible!!! wind rain and cold...the worst combination!!!! but us dedicated flying pigs did not let that stop us!!

first i have to shout a BIG CONGRATS to ohmoms dad for running the entire marathon with an excellent time!!!! 4:12 i believe!!! so proud of him!!!!!
and now to report...i originally was going to do the whole second half, then with the weather i thought...maybe not! but once i started running and got caught up in it all, i couldn't stop!!!
i ran my leg (6.7miles) in 64 minutes, which i was happy with!!!
when i got to dad, i was ready to keep going!!! so i did, and the real fun part was...DAD RAN MOST OF IT!!!! his walking pace is too fast for me, so i had to do a slow jog as he walked, but then he ran a ton, so i never really stopped running! just slowed my pace!!!!

we finished 13.6 miles in 2:28 minutes, which isn't too shabby!!!! for a slow runner and a walker!!! needless to say, we were both a bit sore and tired after, but it was well worth it!!! we got to run the finish together, for the second time!!! it was lots of fun!!!!!

so it was a very positive race day...we all put the weather aside and conquered the "PIG" as it was!!!!!

:sunny:

That is so fantastic! We're proud of you too!
Do you have any hints or tips for us marathon WISHwalkers for January?

Congrats Evansmom- You are so amazing. That is just so fantastic. I'm still worried I won't be able to walk it, lol!!

karebear1,
i am full of tips and advice and stories...i could go on and on!!! i guess the best thing to do is ask if you have any questions!!!

i'm not an expert, there are MANY people who have way more experience and are way better runners!! i will say i have done the cincy flying pig 2 x's (full), san diego rock and roll 1 time (full), columbus 1/2 and now cincy 1/2. i plan to do colubus 1/2 again this fall and of course WDW 1/2 this winter!!! the best advice i can give is: YOU CAN DO IT!!!!! i am fully convinced that anyone who puts there mind to it can complete 13.1 miles or 26.2 miles...whichever their goal may be!!! its 10%physical and 90% mental!!!! both are amazing accomplishments and the excitement is addictive!!! those of you that are doing WDW, after the race may think...wow never again, but in a few days, you'll be looking for the next race you want to do!! and the more people you get to join in the fun the better!!!
anyway, i'm happing to TRY to answer questions, just shoot them my way!!!! i just love marathons!!!!!!!!:hyper:

I wouldn't even know where to start with questions! Because I ahve never been in a race or trained for anythign like it, I'm completely lost! I do have a trainer- and we a re working on a slow training regiment for me. I can think of one or 2 questions I've askwed before, but maybe you can answer. The first is do you know of a good pedometer? and the second is- is there a place where we can buy audio cd's that will help us p[ace our walks? I need a real beginners tape. What do you eat the night before the race and then again in the am? Do you eat during the race? What about drinking during the race? OH!! HEre's the BEST one..... when is the BEST time to get a message? The day of the race- how long after? Or- should it be the next day?
How's that for starter's????
:teeth:

karebare you mean massage, right? i so think we all need one after WISHcon 2005!!

nikki -- i had toyed with doing the 1/2 Columbus as well! hey!!! lets' do it!

any other OH WISHers care to join us for it??? I hear it's a great flat course?!?

maybe I should look into it more before I committ? nah!

maryliz -- evansmom and her dad were part of a relay team, so they each did a "leg" of the relay. my dad was the only one in the fam to complete the whole marathon:goodvibes i know the weather was crrrapppyyy!!! i actually was in BED all day with a horrible virus!

why yes OhMom..... I DID mean Massage! Sorry about that! I've already reserved my Massage for 2pm at the Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa on race day.... I'm doing an aquamassage- then a pedicure- but may switch that to a foot massage..... anyone ever done either of those? Is that a good time to do it- or will I be sorer and appreciate it more the next day?

Soggy as it was - she still had a smile ! I didn't get to see her at the finish, but then I am sure she was really smiling cuz' it was all over ;)

Ohmom I bet your DDad will probably be at the Columbus one too. I've heard they can be addictive - he is already "just gathering information" he said. yeah, right.

I wanted to say that DH has been nosing on the net some and sounds like he has come across some neat sites. I will get addresses and post some (one is a projection - if you run this amount and this fast, predicts how far you can "really" go, etc.)

Also, DH ran with a pace team and he said that is the way to go, especially for first marathon. The gal that led their team it was her 45th marathon (okay so it's her job too, but can you imagine) and not only did she talk throughout the run she carried a stick with balloons that identified her pace! DH said the last 5 miles she told some pretty neat motivational stories and tidbits. I certainaly admire her! Maybe we can get a pace walker for us!

And, just wanted to say the DNiece can tell you all about pedicures too, she has a great place she goes for those!!

PS ohmom just make sure it is not the weekend that we have planned for Hocking Hills :p

karebear1
i sent you a PM answering some questions!!!! i hope that helps...ask anytime!!! boy it sure is going to be fun doing WDW...i can't wait!!!!!!

I got your pm- thank you. I think I'll go ahead and keep my 2pm massage appointment at SSR. Have you ever had an aqua massage?
Now.... Evansmom- all I need you to do is reach back into the deepest recesses of your mind......... back, back ... to your first ever marathon.............. WHAT DO YOU WISH YOU KNEW THAT YOU DIDN"T KNOW?!?!?!!?
