No Disney Magic for me in March :(

Work fired aomeone at work yesterday. Because of that, I have to fill in at my old position for the next 6 months, until the other girl who does that job gets back from maternity leave. We can't go away after that because my husband will then be too busy at work. I'm so upset and disappointed. But there is no way they will approve my vacation until the other girl is back and ready to go on her own.

It could be worse though. My co-worker from the other department (where I was working until yesterday) has booked and paid for her vacation in Mexico and she is supposed to leave next week. They are threatening to cancel hers because they are short-staffed there now because I'm at the other job.

What a place that is. I need to win the Lotto Max..and not with the Bell Call Centre people

My employer cancelled vacation time for dec 24-31 due to an increase in claims (I work for an insurance company).

however, if we had booked and paid for a trip we would not be affected.

Any employer who who prevent me from going on a trip i had already booked and paid for a vation is no employer I want to work for.

I had 3 days approved for vacation dec 29-31 that was cancelled due to an employee illness and other staff being on vacation as well (we were going to be short-staffed). I can carry-over those days to 2011 - so not really a big deal for me

I went on too many trips to Disney, now I can't afford to go anymore. hahahahah Oh well when the world ends December 23 2012, i can take good memories with me. hahahaha

My vacation wasn't approved yet and we haven't made any firm reservations yet so $$ wise its OK. It just sucks. My coworker is a different story though. If I was in her shoes I'd be going or demanding they pay me back. I know one of the managers is really fighting for her though. Its just not right. They can't keep good people and when they do they screw people over.

Isn't that what trip cancellation insurance is for?

That's terrible! I sure am glad that my DH has a great employer. They can and will call you back from your vacation (even if you're already at your destination) but they will reimburse you money and pay for you to re-join your family or give you another vacation period to make up for it. So far it hasn't happened to our family but we know it could and though it would suck, we know that it would just be a delay and we would still get the vacation.

I hope your coworker gets it all sorted out and gets to go!

I think you and your coworker both need some extra pixie dust!!

UPDATE! So, my "regular" boss really, really needs/wants me back at my old job. So, they've posted the job I've been working at. Hopefully, they'll get someone soon and I can get them trained. My boss is saying if things go well, I might still be able to go away at the end of March. The other girl in my "other" department ended up being "allowed" to go so my boss is fighting for me as well. However my "current" boss is saying he'll need me around to make sure the new person is doing OK. So, basically its up to the President of the company. My husband is going to submit his vacation request on Monday. If he can't get that week approved then I won't worry about it. If he gets the OK then I'm going to fight for my hard-earned vacation. Really, this is my only chance to go in 2011. Any other dates just don't work between everyone's schedules at work and between hubby and I. I'm so tired of being the one who is always shuffled around and getting screwed over. Every vacation I've had there, something has come up they've threatened to fire me if I go, after they've already approved it and I've booked and paid for the trip. Then they say OK again at the last minute. I'm tempted just to say screw it and go and let the chips fall where they may. I want my Florida vacation, darn it!!!
