Hi,
Okay, the decision has finally been made that we are going to become members.
Now it is a question of where. I know there are a lot of strong feelings about individual resorts. I would like you all to check my thinking. We will NEVER be organized enough to make plans 7 months out let alone 11 months so as I understand it our chances at home will be just as good as at any other resort. If we take the initial purchase price out of the equation (since that can vary with what is available through resale and what will pass ROFR) it seem to me that SSR might be one of the better options since its monthly dues are lowest and it has the extra years.
Any and all comments welcome. TIA

Welcome to our little community on the DIS! If you feel you can make use of the extra years then SSR is the best value based on what you stated. If you can't use the extra years, then it is a toss up. OKW might cost you less initially, but SSR is likely to hold/build value longer because of the extra years.

You should call The Timeshare Store and discuss your options.

Good luck with your decision.

Hi, I had the same questions last month and then I did the SSR tour and visited a few of the other DVC resorts. I loved them all!lol I won't always be able to book 11 months out so location didn't matter that much. I think that people may have their favorites but they all seem beautiful.

The 49 years vs. 37 did make a difference for us-my youngest is 3 1/2 and I would like to pass it on to my kids to use with their kids. Price wise, I felt that the SSR package was a good deal with the extra 150 pts for 2005 and the 8 pts off ($1200 towards deposit). On the other hand, I've seen some really good resales too. Make some calls and just keep getting info, then you can make an informed choice based on your family's needs.

We just joined today!!!

We are at SSR, we did the basic 150 pts, as we travel in slow seasons. Our year begins in april, so we already have 150 pts and another 150 coming in april..which is perfect for us. We will be able to bank 60-70 points, after booking our trip (in the next week or so) for 2/06.

The annual dues were 574. They are currently running a special of $8.00 off per pt, we saved $1200. They put this amount towards our down payment, ontop of the 10% you are required to put down. So, it was nice to have the extra$$ towards down payment. Our downpayment ended up being over 18% with the promotion.

We had looked at DVC back in 2002, but weren't quite ready at the time...well hubby wasn't. I was a SAHM at the time. Now we are definately ready...and waiting to book our next vacation!! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Exact same situation here, down to the new puchase, the April Use Year, the extra points, and the 02/06 vacation. Congratulations.

Congratulations & Welcome Home!

HAPPY "MAGICAL" VACATIONING,

Jim's post pretty much says it all. If you can't book before the 7-month window, your Home resort is completely meaningless. Either get SSR for the extra years and low dues or an OKW resale for the low buy-in cost and low dues.

The extra years at SSR are hard to beat, especially if booking windows don't matter.

How exciting! Welcome!
