I am almost under contract for 100 points at Bay Lake Towers and have a question about resort availability. We won't close til early July and have a trip planned for October 2-9 at Caribbean Beach. We would like to cancel that reservation but wonder if we will be able to book a studio anywhere (figure BLT will likely be booked up by then) with only about 2 1/2 months between our reservation in Mid-July and trip in October? We have never stayed at any of the DVC resorts so aren't too picky this time. I just wanted to make sure SOMETHING will probably be available.

Thanks for the help!

If you are not picky, you should be able to find something. We have made reservations for studios and 1 bedrooms during the summer for October trips. We have gotten OKW and SSR without problem and were lucky one year to get BWV calling in the summer. Chances are you will probably be looking at getting a room at OKW or SSR since it is Food and Wine Festival in October. Both are wonderful, beautiful resorts and you will enjoy either. :goodvibes

yea with Epcot food & wine, and MK - MNSSHP

you will probably be in SSR or OKW - you might get AKV

would be very surprised if you got BCV, BWV, BLT or VWL

It's going to be tough to get a reservation. I'm going to venture a guess that you won't find seven nights in one resort in one size villa.

That's what I'm afraid of - not being able to get anything. I won't cancel our current reservation until I have the DVC trip planned. I would otherwise have to bank all those points and I'm not sure I'll be able to use them next year. I never thought I'd have too many points!

This is close to my situation when I purchased DVC. If you are buying resale this won't work, but if you are buying direct from Disney it will. I purchased in July with an August reservation at POR. At the time of purchase your points are available, so have your guide make the BLT reservation that you want when you tell her/him that you're ready to buy. Once the BLT reservation is confirmed you can cancel the CRO reservation(must be 45 days before start of res. to get full refund). You need to be a little careful here that they only cancel the lodging portion of your reservation. The Disney policy is to cancel everything including any flight reservations. Some CM's don't know how to do this, so if you get one of those, call again until you find one who does. If you are buying resale then the cancellation advice still is applicable, you just won't be able to make the DVC reservation until your points are available after closing. Hope this helps. Here's some pixie dust so that everything works out. pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: And Welcome Home!

I wasn't able to get into OKW or AKV for 3 nights in the same studio room type during the time you are going. SS was a possibility for me but that was it. This was just a couple of days ago when I was trying to book the WEd-Fri nights of you time frame.

Thanks for the info, Rebecca, although it's not what I wanted to hear! I think I am going to have to cancel my purchase. We can't afford to pay the downpaynet and closing costs for the DVC purchase and pay for the trip we already booked. I have to go those days for work reasons too. It stinks because we have talked about this purchase for awhile and thought it might finally work out!

Are you able to work ANYTHING out with your guide?

This is probably a good decision. A DVC purchase is a long-term commitment. If one trip already planned is going to make it difficult for you to pay the down payment and closing costs, I would rethink things as well. IMHO, DVC becomes much less of a good deal if you have to finance it, anyway.

Does it sound reasonable that rooms will be available but we may have to switch hotels (at least once!) during the stay? I just can't believe it would be so booked up in early October that nothing would be available. If we go through with the purchase, we have to use the points this year so we'd ned to figure something out. I'm buying from the Timeshare Store and don't have the point charts for stays in non-DVC properties. Anyone have the rate for Caribbean Beach (or any moderate resort, really) for the first week of October? I know it will be a lot more per night but it may be our best bet if nothing else is available.

Oct 1 - Nov 27:

Moderate, standard view:

Weeknights 21 points each, weekends 32 points each.

Plus there is a $95 reservation fee.

We found ourselves in a similar situation last month when we bought resale. What we ended up doing was keeping our paid for reservations in Oct for the BC but cut it short. We used some points for nights at HH. The rest of our points will be banked. Depending on your vacation maybe you could do a split stay - half at the CB and half at a DVC resort.

We have just enough points for a 1 bedroom at a low point season for a 5 night stay. But if we want to stay more days, get a 2 bedroom or go during a higher point season those banked points will come in handy. Each year I will have points from the current year to roll forward. This way we can avoid adding on for a while :)

Points for CBR in all of October are as follows:
STD View Sun-Thurs 21 pts Fri-Sat 32 pts
Pool or Water View Sun-Thurs 22 pts Fri-Sat 33 pts
Pirate Theme Std Sun-Thurs 22 pts Fri-Sat 33 pts
Pirate Theme Pool Sun-Thurs 24 pts Fri-sat 36 pts

Great idea! Thanks DebbieB for the totals. I think the 21 points/night is definitely do-able for the weeknights. If nothing is available for the weekend, we'll just have to pay cash.

Like the others said before you decide- talk to your guide!! Tell them the situation and that you can only committ if you can get a reservation somewhere at that time. I would put money on them "magically" finding something to make the deal go through! Let us know-

:)Our Guide found 2 SV studios for us in July when we purchased) for an oct 28- Nov 6 trip last year...we were already booked at Pop and he made it happen with EASE.

October is very popular with members because of the Halloween parties and Food & Wine Festival.

The problem with booking a non-DVC WDW resort is that you cannot make the reservation during the last four months of your UY for a stay during the same time. You didn't say what the Use Year is for the points you are purchasing. So if they are June through Sept points, you won't be able to use them at CBR.

Also, since you are purchasing a resale, your "guide" can't do anything to get you a reservation because the resale company can't do anything like that. Only directly through Disney.

The OP can't do this. They are purchasing resale.

Deb and Bill (or anyone else that knows the answer) Our use year is December. The points we would be using are ones from December 2009. From what I understand, we COULD use those points for a stay in a moderate resort, is that correct?
