Sony VAIO laptop

CAn someone give me a review on the sony vaio laptops. I am looking for one for a college student and am wondering if this is the way to go or if I should look into another brand.

I have had one for a few years now and have never had any problems. I really like it.

I have a FW355J Sony VAIO laptop - and I LOVE it. It's got a really nice widescreen which is great for watching movies and working with Microsoft Excel spreadsheets. It has a Blue Ray DVD player. When I bought it, I got "free" bluetooth headphones (the sound is great!), and I bought a bluetooth wireless mouse.

I had a beautiful red sony vaio that cost 1100. It was wonderful. I bought it at best buy. 30 days after I bought it, my son dropped a 20 pound weight on it, smashing the screen.....I took it in, the clerk said, You meant to buy a warrantee right? I said sure, the whole thing was covered by warranty almost 800.00, and I had a year coverage. The warranty cost 100.00. Anyway, one year and 3 days to the day, it died. Repair cost without warranty: 1133.00. I said, are you kidding me? Best Buy said, sony is always the most expensive to repair.....never buy sony..

I LOVE mine. I have the VGN-SR190. It works great, and it's pink which is amazing. Make sure whoever you're buying for wouldn't prefer a mac. Most colege kids and almost all grad school kids use mac. I just can't get used to them, so sony is my pc of choice.

I would actually disagree that most college students and almost all grad students use Macs. From what I see it is mainly the digital media students that use the macs. PCs are defiantly still the more dominate machine on my campus and on the campuses of friends. Though a trend I have been seeing lately is to have a second boot up into Linux. My boyfriend keeps trying to get me to do that when I get my new machine.

I don't know anything about the laptops, but I have a Sony Vaio desktop. LOVE IT! I would go with another Vaio in a heartbeat. Don't know if I will as I might build a custom PC... but if I get a laptop, Vaio is my first choice.

I bought a VAIO desktop in 2003 and am currently typing away on my VAIO laptop that I purchased in early 2007. Almost 3 years later and it is just as fantastic as the day I brought it home. Never had a problem, never have had to bring it in. The ONLY issue I had was about two months ago the charger died. Found a generic one on eBay for 17 bucks...good as new! When it is time for me to purchase another laptop I will certainly be buying a VAIO.
