My DS10 is jonesing to play Black Ops online with his friends. The network has been down since Wednesday because it was hacked, and Sony is rebuilding the entire network! The week of Spring Break was bad timing on this, lol.

Anyone else suffering?

OH my yes. The whole weekend was just "ruined" according to my boys. What is the point of playing when you can't play with friends online.

Yep and to make matters worse when DS turned his PS 3 onto the network, he lost all memory on his games and he completely lost the 2 games he purchased through playstation network.
We're hoping when it goes back online everything will be back, but I told him not to expect it. :sad2:

It affects everything that requires access to the network, which netflix also requires. I definitely play my fair share of games, but I frequently fall asleep to something on netflix and that's been screwing up my routine for the past week.

(The playstation screen goes dark when its not in use, so there isn't a bright light to bother me because I've been too lazy to reprogram the universal remote. LOL)

My 13 y/o son and his friends have definitely gone through withdrawal. I told them today that they are over the worst part of it now and they can start to live life without any video games. The look of horror on their face was priceless!

We have Netflix but rarely use the streaming feature. Never thought of that being affected as well.

I asked DS what the heck he did before Black Ops?!

DH has been quite lost with BlackOps. We have been able to get into Netflix though it threw a PS error but the after I continued went right to Netflix.

Forget the kids.I'm missing my warhawk play time!

My DS 13 os also a BOPS fan, and is actually rejoicing about this turn of evetns, as he was banned from video games for a week after being late handing in a project.

In the meantime, i am missing out on my MAG time...

As for Netflix-- just keep on trying to log in and it will eventually get there.. but Hulu Plus just won't work at all :(

My son actually said, "Why couldn't I have picked this week to do something stupid to get myself grounded. Instead, I will end up grounded AFTER the network comes back up."

I suggested he just refrain from doing something stupid so he wouldn't get grounded and he said he was pretty sure that wasn't possible!

My son mentioned this today. Luckily he has another platform he can play. He hasn't played too much anyway because the rain they have predicted hasn't come so he
s been outside shooting hoops.

You know what you buy that stuff it is for life. He can get the games he purchased back.:thumbsup2

I have had no problem with my Netflix. I stream through my Wii.

Now I did have some trouble on my BluRay which is a SONY but I was able to access. This explains a lot.

We stream through the Wii in one room, but the PS3 is in my bedroom. I haven't been able to get it to go through since you have to be logged into the PSN for it to work on the PS3. We've still been watching it on the Wii since that has nothing to do with the PSN. :)

If your dvd player doesn't utilize the Playstation Network (which I can't imagine that it does), then your difficulties are coincidental.

I just tried to log into my Netflix with my Sony Blu Ray now and no go.....

Off to Hacking Netflix, I am sure all it revealed there.;) Yep, what you said....
Reader Jim discovered a possible workaround (it worked for me): "I just wanted to share a workaround that I've found works perfectly for this issue. The problems isn't that the playstation cant reach the internet, it just cant log you into the PSN. This means while online gaming is down, the web browser actually still works. Here's the workaround: Open up Netflix on the PS3 the way you normally would. Upon doing so you will be prompted to try to log into the PSN which will undoubtedly fail no matter how many times you try. What you'll notice though, is that your queue and selections still load in the background. Once fully loaded, cancel the login attempt for the Playstation network and, Voila! You're into Netflix and won't have any problem watching (I'm doing it right now!)."

Are you able to access the Netflix app on the PS3?

So Sony finally admitted they had a problem..

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/04/26/update-on-playstation-network-and-qriocity/

Apparently a hacker busted in and managed to collect the following info:

name,
address (city, state, zip),
country,
email address,
birthdate,
PlayStation Network/Qriocity password and login,
PSN online ID.
purchase history
billing address (city, state, zip), and your PlayStation Network/Qriocity password security answers may have been obtained

So basically, if you have ever purhased anything from Playstation network, ever, some guy out there has all the info required to basically wipe your credit out of existance.

Depending what they were trying to do, I don't think credit card information was taken at all. The people involved seemed like they are only trying to send a message to Sony, and this worked. The message is don't mess around and be stupid or else things will happen.

People who were only after credit card information would have done it so secretly and stealthly., nobody would have noticed and the PSN would not have went down.

Sony just announced credit card info for 75 million users was leaked.

This according to the CBS Evening News.

I am freakin' livid about this! This is probably the biggest data snatch in history, and it's crazy the user data the hackers now have access to.

What's gots me really ticked is that the attack happened around April 16-19th! There's a good chance Sony knew about this and waited until today to announce this info ?? Data theft may be near impossible to stop, but Sony should have kept people informed immediately of the issues.

I hope Sony sets up a credit fraud support hotline and pays for any potential credit issues customers may face over the next few years ...

That's more than annoying... That's major league bad news :-(
