I'm having a hard time rationalizing buying a new DVD player, these days. A super-fantastic Blu-ray disc player is $250 from Amazon.com (free shipping), and it not only plays Blu-ray discs, DVDs, CDs, MP3/WMA discs, and JPG discs, but it also can connect to your home network and play online video, from Netflix or
Amazon perhaps, and play online music, from Pandora or Rhapsody perhaps.
You may not need all that today, but do you really want to buy another disc player a few years from now, when those features become more important to you? The difference in price between DVD players and the latest Blu-ray players has me concluding, that for me, the answer to that question is 'no'.
I'm currently looking at a couple of Blu-ray players. The Samsung BD-P1600 is probably the best overall value, but I'm leaning towards a Sony all-in-one (Blu-ray player built into a whole home theater audio system).
