DH & I are in the market for a camcorder and came across a few that I like the looks of. Does anyone have the any of the following:

Sony IP5
Sony TRV19
Sony TRV22

Keep in mind that I have no clue what these do as I am somewhat "technologically challenged". I can barely work my digital camera!!! Anyway, any comments would be appreciated!!

Thanks in advance.

I haven't used any of those particular cameras, but just bought the trv-80 hot off the boat! Really like the Sony stuff--yes, it's somewhat limiting because of the proprietary nature of their memory, but since I also have the Sony Cybershot f-707, it doesn't matter to me!

What sold me on this particular camcorder? First, I wanted to be able to pass analog video though and convert it to digital. Second, I wanted to be able to capture a decent, admittedly not great, still shot without having to drop the camcorder and grab the camera. This has a 2 megapixel resolution on the stills it takes. Not impressive, but probably a WHOLE lot better than the mpegs I manage to shoot on the f-707! Take the time to decide what you really want to be able to do with the camcorder, then prioritize (that's where I always fall short--I want it all!).

You most probably don't need (or want) as much camcorder as I just bought. I "do" projects for our synagogue, and have a really important one coming up. Got to get all of our preschool/primary school kids gathered in one location to sing farewell to our education director who is retiring after a long and well respected career. Glad this thing has a big LCD screen, otherwise I wouldn't be able to see it through the tears I know will flow.

The DCRIP5 is a MicroDV camera. The size of the camera is really good, but the iLink (or IEEE1394 or Firewire) is only compatible with the bundled Movie Shaker software. Plus, I don't think it has nightshot. The DCRTRV19 and DCRTRV22 are DV cameras, which are compatible with most DV software. The advantage of the DCRTRV22 is that it takes memory sticks and takes stills.

The Sony camcorders have Carl Zeiss lenses, which are considered the Rolls Royce of lenses.

The TRV19 doesn't have still? I thought I saw it on the model but I could be wrong.
