I am going to read the reviews that you recommended. Prior to reading them though I was leaning towards the Sony 18-250.

Has anyone found any better deals? Everywhere I have looked the price seems to be running at just about $579.

The US Sony SURE program keeps the Sony lens prices pretty consistent. If you would consider used then you can get a better deal. I bought my Sony 18-250 used from keh.com. The one I got was essentially new with box and manual. Of course they don't always have them and you might have to do some searching.

Yes, I paid $579 when I bought mine in January. If you do bing cashback you can save a few bucks– like 2-3%. The most important thing is to go with someone reputable– e.g. BH Photo, Adorama, Amazon, etc. Resellerratings (or these boards) are a good resource when in doubt.

I bought a bargin 75-250 lens from Keb.com and was SHOCKED at how great the condition was. they also had fast service and left it at my aparment door (I hate when I have to chase down packages or wait a extra day cause they need delevery confrmation.). I would shop keb again. also if your ever having a problem kat4disney is like the sony star. She knows like everything and dosent get frustrated when you ask 8billon questions

Yes, KEH.com is a good place to check if you're looking for used lenses. Here's a link to their Sony brand lenses:

I didn't see an 18-250 at the moment. You can also check under Minolta Maxxum for minolta brand zooms and non-minolta (tamron, sigma). All A-mount lenses are compatible with your Sony DSLR.

Can anyone tell me why my cameras screeen is going from bright to light randomly? this was the first time Ive used it in this hot of weather ( 80's). What could be causing this? Its not the battery cause ive tried switching it.

Are you noticing this difference when you are outside or when you are inside?

Maybe the light sensor changes the brightness levels on the LCD screen? kinda like Transition lenses...? Just a thought, I guess there is nothing in the manual about this?

It sounds like the light sensor on the LCD. Mine will amp up the brightness in direct sun as needed to help see the screen, and tone down in low light - if you happen to be right on the threshhold, you might see it fluctuate. In your main Menu, you should have an option for "LCD Brightness". It is most likely on Auto. If you don't like this, just switch it to "Manual" and set the brightness where you like it.

Temperature shouldn't be making a difference but if it's set to auto it could have been adjusting depending on light it was sensing. The setting can be adjusted under the setup menu 1 (the one that looks like a small wrench). If it is set to auto then change it to a fixed brightness and it shouldn't vary.

Are you in the midwest? My mom's house got up in the 80's yesterday in MN and we got a high temp warning! Crazy b/c the furnace was running here at the same time.

Yep wisconsin here. lcd is on +2. it was fine for awile then I took a bunch of pics including some that had a long exposure and now the screen is dimming and flickering. when i tip it forward it seems to help.

Sounds like you need to contact Sony.

So I contacted sony and they suggested a few things to try and so far so good. Hopefully this is fixed now.

The letters indicate what lenses come in the kit. I believe the Y has two lenses. The 18-55mm and the 55-200mm. The L has one lens - the 18-55mm. It's probably about a $200 difference between the two that you are seeing?

I dont know about either of those models but I recently bought a sony A230 with a 18-70 lens (i belive that the numbers) and I love it. It takes wonderfully sharp photos, is easy to understand, and is fancy enough for me to learn new things on it. I also learned that Minitola lenses fit this camera (AF without a adapter, manual with an adapter). I just thought I would share with you a positve brand experance.
