Son's bday in Disneyland

We just booked our next Disney trip. We will be there during our son's 10th birthday.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do??

Any ideas on how to celebrate?

In the park, there is the Happiest Birthday Party which costs about $15 pp for about a 30 - 40 minute celebration with cake and drink.

They are also starting up the Woody's Celebration bbq soon but I haven't been able to get much info on that yet.

You can special order a custom birthday cake to any of the parks table service restaurants or DL hotels or thru room service if you are staying on the property.

He should also pick up a birthday button when you first get to the park.

Lots of options for celebrating a birthday!!

They have the Pat E. Cake Birthday Party at the Plaza Inn, where you get your own personal cake to decorate & a drink. Mickey & Minnie come in at the end for photo ops. It is $15.99 per person. You can book that thru Disney Dining 714-781-3463 or set it up at City Hall if you decide to add that. It is held at 2pm daily with weekends adding another one at 4:15pm.

You could do a character meal, there are 5 to chose from:
Goofy's Kitchen does breakfast/lunch buffet or a dinner buffet. Chef Goofy, Pluto, Max & usually a princess & at least one or two more characters frequent this meal. (we've seen the Mad Hatter, Geppetto, Baloo, Brer Fox, Jasmine, Aladdin, Chip, Dale, Max, Pluto & of course Goofy)
Ariel's Grotto has breakfast, lunch & dinner, but this is the Princess Meal & your son might think that is gross!!
Storyteller's Cafe has a small breakfast buffet or order off menu where the characters tend to be the animal & jungle characters.
Lilo-n-Stitch has a breakfast buffet or order off menu. This is a tropical theme.
Minnie & Friends is held at the Plaza Inn & is a breakfast buffet. A lot of the classic characters are at this meal. We've seen Minnie, Fairy Godmother, Pooh, Eeyore, Hook, Chip, Dale, Max & Rafiki.
I highly suggest making PS thru Disney Dining for these.

The other option is at many of the restaurants in the parks or hotels, you can let them know you're celebrating a birthday & get the Disney Pirate Treasure Chest which is a single serving decorated cake, compass magnet, pirate Mickey flag inside a treasure chest. These are $15.00 or you could arrange to have a cake made thru Disney Dining. The price for a 6" cake is approx. $25.00

Make sure your son gets his birthday button from City Hall. He will be wished a happy birthday many many times with this on.

My son will have his birthday during our next visit too. We are actually going offsite for my son's birthday this year - he wants to go to Medieval Times - they have a 'birthday package' too and if you call (it's not posted on their website yet) they have a special running where a kid gets in free with a paying adult, so we paid for 2 adults, the 2 kids will be free, then we got the royalty upgrade with the birthday special treatment for $16 more per person. I am hoping it will make him feel like the prince he is! We are actually doing this the night before this B-day, then on his birthday, we will do the Disney Celebration thing (we are AP holders, so he wants the gift card which he plans to use to buy a bunch of new pins) and the birthday button. Birthday boy gets to pick the rides. Definitely have to do the Jungle Cruise so we can get the 'birthday song' ...

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the birthday phone call. If the CM doesn't offer it to you, and they may not for whatever reason, just ask for the birthday phone call, and be sure that you have a camera ready when your son picks up the phone.

If possible, I also recommend having your son visit his favorite charcter. They may do something fun for the picture, or even just wish him a happy birthday(if it's a face character). You can ask at City Hall when you pick up the birthday button where to find said favorite character in the park that day.

There are different ways to celebrate, so much to choose from really. When my oldest ds turned 10, he would have been furious if we made him decorate a cake with Mickey or Minnie and would have been embarrassed beyond belief. I think at that age he was becoming way too "cool" for that stuff. What we did was have a cake for him at dinner, as well as the birthday button. Even the button was almost too painful for him though He got to pick the rides, and I think that was probably the highlight for him Whatever you think he would like, there are lots of choices. I love to spend time on the DLR website to get different ideas. I love the idea of the Medieval Times though...not Disney, but most boys would love it!
