I have a list of songs I remember singing in music class in elementary school - way back when.;)

Cindy, Billy Boy, Don Gato... to name a few.

Why oh why won't these songs fly out of my head???

What stupid songs do you remember learning in music class as a kid?:D

Hava Nagila, Jean, and Black and White. I remember the last one because it was the 6th grade concert and one minute I was standing on stage and the next minute it was going fuzzy and black and I was in the nurses office, lol! I had passed out. Jean was from I dunno 7th or 8th grade and my chorus teacher loved it. And Hava Nagila was from 6th grade too, Ms. Z my chorus teacher loved that one! She had wild curly hair and wore long skirts-shocking, lol!

Every morning at seven o’clock,

There were twenty tarriers drilling at the rock.

The boss comes around and he says,

"Keep still, And come down heavy on the cast iron drill."

And drill ye tarriers, drill

There was also one about the Erie canal

:)

Definitely, Don Gato!

Also:
Scratch, Scratch Me Back
(scratch, scratch me back. scratch, scratch me back. It really is a fact, the less I itch the more I scratch.)

Mama Paquita
(Mama Paquita, Mama Paquita,
Mama Paquita, buy your baby a papaya
A ripe papaya and a banana,
A ripe papaya that your baby will enjoy, ma-ma-ma-ma...)

when I saw the title of your post, the first thing that popped into my mind was.....

"Senor Don Gato was a Cat"

also remember singing High Hopes and This Land is Your Land.

I loved Don Gato! My favorite part was the line about him breaking "his little solar plexus", lol!
I remember Froggy Went A-Courtin' and the Erie Canal song, too. I think it went:
Low bridge, Everybody down
Low bridge, cause we're comin' to a town
And you'll always know your neighbor
You'll always know your pal
If you've ever navigated
On the Erie Canal!

I guess I'm a little older than you other posters. My music classes where back in the 50's and we sang a lot of songs by Stephen Foster. Most of his songs are very not politacaly correct and have not been for many years [and I agree]. But as a window into the 19th century [when they where written], they are very important pieces of music.

What could make that little old ant,
think he could move that rubber tree plant
everyone knows an ant can't... move a rubber tree plant
but he has:
High hopes, he has high hopes
he has high apple pie in the sky hopes.

Wasn't the mule's name "Sal" who was on the Erie Canal?

Little rabbit foofoo. I was singing this song to DH the other night. He thought I had lost my mind or made the song up.

Oh yes, these are all sounding familiar! :D

I remembered another one - Polly Wolly Doodle All The Day

:teeth:

Every now and then the line, "From Albany to Buffalo", pops up in my head. I can't for the life of me remember what song that is from but we sang it frequently.

Tie the Yellow Ribbon Round the Old Oak Tree

The Grease Soundtrack (when it came out originally)
Saturday Night Fever soundtrack-- we heard lots of Bee Gees in the 70's!

Yes, this was music class in elementary school.

I did learn the More we get together the happier we will be in English and German, and Frer Jacques in English/French

Seems those might just be more "Erie Canal" lyrics. They're ringing a bell and that's Erie Canal territory.;)

....from 13 original colonies. Fifty Nifty stars in the flag that billows so beautifully in the breeze"

Anyone else remember that one?

Linda

The Groundhog Song

If he sees his shadow you know
you got six more weeks to go
till the weather is dry
look for clouds in the sky
if he sees his shadow
you can bet
you got six more weeks to get wet

Might be strictly a PA song-not sure.

This is one of the songs they play in the morning at my DD's school! It is a catchy tune -

Fifty nifty United States from thirteen original colonies;
Fifty nifty stars in the flag that billows so beautif'ly in the breeze.
Each individual state contributes a quality that is great.
Each individual state deserves a bow, we salute them now.

Fifty nifty United States from thirteen original colonies,
Shout 'em, scout 'em, Tell all about 'em,
One by one till we've given a day to ev'ry state in the U.S.A.

Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut;
Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana;
Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan;
Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada;
New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina,
North Dakota, Ohio;
Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas;
Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming,
Al -a -o ming.

North, south, east, west, in our calm, objective opinion,
(name of home state) is the best of the
Fifty nifty United States from thirteen original colonies,
Shout 'em, scout 'em, Tell all about 'em,
One by one till we've given a day to ev'ry state in the good old
U. S. A.

I remember singing Inchworm, This Land is Your Land, High Hopes, & Little Bunny Foo Foo.
