I am creating a dvd of family photos. I want to put the photos to music. I am looking for song suggestions for the music. Any help will be appreciated. :goodvibes

What types of photos do you have. Just general photos or are they of a special event, like a trip to Disney? How old are your kids? If the DVD is meant to be something for them to watch, you might want to add age-appropriate music.

I'm still working on a 2005 year in review DVD and I try to get music that relates to the pictures. The scene I'm working on now is when me and the kids went to grandpa's house in Montana to go ice fishing. I couldn't find very many ice fishing songs so I am using "We're Having a Heatwave".

They are photos of my parents when they were young all the way through to their grandkids. I have 3 siblings so all of their families will be receiving a DVD also.

For a professional feel, consider using a music production library.

http://freeplaymusic.com is free for private use. You can search by mood, music type, etc. It's much easier to match the music to the duration since they usually offer the same piece in 10, 15, 20, 30, 60 second versions as well as the 2:30-3:30 full length version.

I would suggest "100 Years" by Five for Fighting. It seems to bridge generational gaps for music and lends itself very well to photos of different age groups.

Please remember that the music industry copyright law allows the use of music for personal uses but if this video would be destined for distribution you would need to license the music to be within the law. Since this is a video for your family I think you are ok (I am not a lawyer but I did stay at a Holiday Inn). This copyright reminder is for members in general and not directed at anyone specifically.

The song "Remember When" I think is by Allen Jackson and is popular for family dvd slide shows. It made my grandma cry when played over photos of my dad as a kid, so it really does work.

I can't think of the specific names (brain's been working to long today), when my father converted the 8mm home movies to video back in the day he used a lot of the Beatles songs and it came out excellent. I have all the songs on the other computer, if I get a chance I'll name off a few of the ones that fit better than others. I also have a few others in mind, but again can't think of specifics (maybe a few Van Morission ones)

Does anyone have any suggestions for pictures of present-day kids? They are of the past year, so I am looking for something that says, "2006" and "aren't these kids cute" but so far I am coming up empty.

Thanks!

That would be wonderful. Thanks so much!! :goodvibes

How about a collection of songs matching the various time periods of the photos? What did your family listen to during those time periods?

Be prepared to pay royalty fees to the artists if requested from them.

Highly unlikely but they legally can ask.

Very true. This is exactly the reason why we didn't invite Alan Jackson to my father's birthday party when we showed the DVD slide show. If he had been there when his "Remember When" started up in the movie it would have been a very awkward birthday party moment to have him go to each person demanding his royalties.

Here are a few that I have used...

100 Years-Five for Fighting
Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)-Green Day
Somewhere Over the Rainbow-Israel Kamakawa'ole
Child of Mine-Carol King
Love of My Life-Carly Simon
Father and Daughter-Paul Simon
Love is All Around-Wet Wet Wet
Seasons of Love-"Rent" Soundtrack
What a Wonderful World-Louis Armstrong
Bookends-Simon and Garfunkel

These are some of my favorites...good luck!!
