My 6 year old has been asking for a Star Wars Imperial AT-AT All Terrain Armored Transport Vehicle for weeks. I told him that it is over $100 and it is a very expensive for a toy. He wants to ask Santa for it. Does anyone have some ideas on how I can get this toy reasonable? I just have a hard time spending that much on a toy.

I actually just found it on Ebay. Brand New for $39.99. Shipping is $11.99 put I would rather pay that price than $100.00.

Not to be a debbie downer, but those toys are made very badly and fall apart in the blink of an eye. Really tics me off. Hasbro should be ashamed!

I know! That is why I didn't want to spend that much on a toy. And the parents are the ones who always have to put the pieces back on.:headache: I guess I would have felt bad come Christmas morning and he didn't get it.

I would check around for coupons to TRU - closer to the holidays they have them in their big toy catalog. To get a little bit of a discount you can go through ebates - check different shops.

Also check ebay -

There are not many on Ebay and they all seem to be going for retail price but a couple are auctions starting pretty low.

That one is actually missing parts - be sure to read the description of every auction you bid on! Good luck :thumbsup2

Its kind of early for him to be dead set on what he wants from Santa... Another solution is for you to create an email account for Santa and let him email santa... then Santa can email back and explain that the elves aren't able to get one but that they have an idea for something they think he will like better... have them say they want it to be a surprise or something and then he will be more likely to accept whatever he gets as being special... you could also send him another email from Santa on Christmas asking if he was happy with whatever he got...

It seems to work better than just telling them Santa can't do this or that, because they don't want to believe you... but when Santa sends them a letter or email they believe.

We have one. Lots of pieces come off. Santa brought Ethan's last year. I got it close to the holidays, but even then it was still about $60. I had to stop paying attention to what DS wanted from Santa until about November, because every time I tried to shop early, the must have's always changed!

Good idea. Thank you.

We bought that same toy for DS for Christmas one year. I found the last one on sale for $80.00. Closer to Christmas they were sold out everywhere and were selling on ebay for $175. I debated selling it! He played with it on and off for about a month. Usually it sat in his room in the way because it was big and hard to store. The side door broke off at one point.

I sold it at a garage sale for $3 or $4 dollars! It was totally not worth it, even though my DS begged for it. I made a lot of mistakes with paying lots of money for expensive toys that rarely got touched.

That's what I'm afraid of. That he will play with it for a week and it will sit in his room so I can trip over it.

Toys R Us frequently emails out 20% off on one item coupons if you sign up for their free rewards program. They also occassionally have a 20% off coupon you can print if you like them on facebook.

I'll keep on eye on that. I'm in the Rewards Program and do get coupons. Thanks!

We got this for my DS8 last christmas (his bday is in december also).

It was on sale at Target, and they also had a coupon out so I think I paid around $60. Also watch Amazon as they will have specials.

He is not easy on toys by any means, and it has not fallen apart on him. He stills plays with it quite often, esp. when friends are over. It is one of his favorite SW toys. It is sitting in the middle of my living room right now. He has a SW battle scene set up...I don't have the heart to move it!

Just keep watching sales and coupons...maybe you will come across a deal. I try not to mess too much w/my son's Christmas list. They do remember what they want and what they asked for. It is a cool toy!

We got one last year from Meijer b/c they had it on sale for like $60 or $70. While we have had doors come off, they simply snap back on. I actually think it's a pretty cool toy. DS and even DD(5) still occasionally play with it.

When my son wants something very expensive that I'm not sure about I give him the opportunity to earn and save the money so he can buy it for himself. Extra chores and things. It adds up quickly. I think there is greater satisfaction in earning it and because he bought it himself he appreciates it more. He recently bough a PS3 this way and is now saving for a special game he wants.

My son got the AT-AT Walker "from Santa" last year, and I have to say that he has played with it a great deal and still really likes it. The doors do have a tendency to come off, but can be snapped back on easily. Mostly my son just leaves them off.

But, make sure he knows that it doesn't actually walk on its own. The legs can be moved around, but to move it around and still keep it balanced is a bit of a pain for a little kid. So, it's a "stay in one place" toy. It comes with a few action figures, too.

DS had to have one a couple years ago for Christmas as well. The only thing he had to have. Sat on a shelf for years unplayed with because the legs would never work right. I finally convinced him to throw the thing out this past summer to make room for his Lego creations. Hope your son finds something else to beg Santa for before Christmas time. ;)

My 5 year old son got this from Santa last Christmas too! He still plays with it almost daily, and we haven't had any issues with it. I will say Don't wait too long for a good deal. I was holding out last year hoping for a deal on BF, and there was no deal, and then I had a hard time finding one. I got it the first week of December at TRU when they were having some deal where if you spend so much on Star Wars stuff, you got a free guy. So I think we spent $80 for the ATAT and a guy!
