oops! spelled video wrong.
My DS will be 8 in a couple of weeks and he wants to have friends over for a video game party. He has a ds hand held and playstaion 2 and a game cube. I can make the invitations and cake to look like a ds game. Can anyone think of any other ideas, for this type of party. Thanks Lisa

I was surprised to see your post. We are having a video game party for DS9 next weekend. It was his idea. Since my husband is also a video game player, we have a playstation2, Xbox 360 and a Wii. I plan to set all 3 up and have the boys rotate thru. No other real plans. I'd love to hear what others suggest.

I just bought some little mini hand held games as party favors at Walmart. They were only $1. They were all sports themes- basketball, soccer, etc. I'm sure they are really basic. Kind of like something you would get as a prize in a happy meal, I didn't actually try one out. But if you are doing favors you could try these. Or even put these out as another game option.

Sorry I don't have more. My kids aren't into video games yet!

We had a Pokemon party for DS in October. Some things we did -

DH drew a 36x24 poster of Charmander, and the kids played pin the fire on Charmander;

They played stomp the balloon with white balloons with red string (tie a balloon around your ankle, run around the yard trying to pop everyone elses balloon while keeping yours intact);

I made Pokemon ball cupcakes with half red/half white icing with a stripe of black licorice down the center;

Watched Transformers (sufficiently video game-y);

And, it was a sleepover, so eventually they all settled down with their DSs and played giant multiplayer games using our home wireless and some other function of the DS.

I thought everything we did was pretty basic, but the kids had a blast!

Just wanted to chime in.

DS's 10th birthday was in October and it turned into a game party even though it wasn't intended to be one. :confused:

I had *intended* for them to do pumpkin decorating, but all these little boys arrived, holed up in DS's room in front of the tv, and that was the last I saw of them. Had to go in there and drag them out for the cake, which they promptly took their plates back in DS's room and went right back to the tv.

So. I guess what I'm saying is, you don't need to do a whole lot. Get the game systems set up, throw some snacks into the middle of the mob, and leave well enough alone. :lmao: Anything by Nintendo is a little-boy-magnet, they can't resist the pull, and once they've gotten sucked in, they won't stop until the parents come to pick them up.

One thing you might want to do, is if any of the guests have extra controllers for the games, have them bring them along. We only had two GameCube controllers but the system will take 4- so only 2 kids at a time could play- but some of those kids had GameCubes at home and if they would have brought them along then more kids could have played at once.

I noticed with my son vs my daughters, he doesn't care a whole lot about decorations. Like a PP said when the " games start" that is all they are focused on lol. Definately (sp?) see if guests could bring some extra controllers. ( make sure they are labelled somehow so they take the correct one back home). I might also suggest having 1 or 2 non video games like puzzles or coloring books or some such just to have on the sidelines.

Also sometimes you can get fruit snacks of transformers theme... you could add them to the mini games as part of the favors.

My son had a video game party when he turned 11. We too are gamers and have several systems. We moved a lot of the furniture out of the living room and had 3 TV's set up, a couple gaming chairs, and bean bag chairs. Two TVs for gaming and the largest TV for DDR (Dance, Dance Revolution--dancing game for you non-gamers! LOL) I have to say that was the most popular. My son invited 7 other boys over. We had competitions for each game where we drew names from a hat for the game playoffs and DDR dance off. The top gamer in each category got an envelope with $10, 2nd place $5. Everyone else got an envelope with $3 just for participating. (This was to replace the traditional "goody" bag which in my son's opinion was babyish.) This was a huge hit. It was a fun, loud, 4 hour party with lots of bowls of chips, popcorn, candy and soda. We had cake and gifts at the end of the party. The boys all had a blast!

Hope this helps and maybe gives you some ideas. Have fun!
