Son turning 3 on trip - what happens under DDP?

With the recent changes to DDP (including the rumored "no sharing" policy) - it sounds to me like if you use dining credits at a TS, you must use one for each member of your party.

In our case, we are traveling with our three boys - one of whom will be turning 3 about halfway through the trip. Because he is only 2 at the time we check-in, for Disney ticketing purposes, he is only 2. They also told us that we did not need to include him in the DDP, so we only have 2 adults and 2 child TS credits per day.

What happens after our youngest turns 3? Will the CMs at a TS require that we use an extra TS credit for him after he turns 3 (if so, we'll run out a lot faster than we would otherwise), or will he still qualify under the exemption for children under the age of 3? Does it make a difference whether it is a buffet or not?

Thoughts?

Well,I look at it this way.
If you check in at a value season price that's what you pay for your whole stay. They don't change the room rate once you've checked in so I don't see them charging your 3 year old either.

I'm pretty sure that I read somewhere, you age when you check in is your age the entire trip. ;)

The age at check in is all that matters so they will remain free for the duration of the trip.

Thanks for the quick replies! That's what I thought - but on another thread, someone mentioned that their just-turned-3 child was required to pay at some of the TS places - but it wasn't clear whether they were on the dining plan.

I guess I'll have to get used to saying "He's 3 but he was 2 when we checked-in" to avoid any confusion . . .

Kids not yet 3 yrs old can eat for free off your plate, or you can order them their own kids meal out of pocket. With the DDP, same thing. Kids not yet 3 are not on the DDP, so they can share off your plate or you can buy them a kids meal. If they turn 3 mid-trip, they are not considered 3, for the purpose of the WDW trip (tickets, meals, etc). So you can, after your child's 3rd birthday mid-trip, still share your food for free or pay out of pocket for a kids meal, just like before.

They cannot really add them to the DDP midtrip, because you all have to have the same package in the same room...so you would ALL have to check out and check back in, for a second package.

As for the child eating off your plate, that is for regular restaurants where you order off a menu. For All you care to eat meals/buffets, the child will get his/her own plate to fill, for free, even after that magical Birthday.

We lived this last year. HTH!

My DD turns 10 (offically a Disney adult) half way through our trip. The CM I spoke to said that we did not have to upgrade her DP to adult for those 3 days.
