Son Turning 3 on our Trip

...And I didn't think much of it until recently reading about 3 year olds passing as 2 year olds, etc. We are traveling Aug 31-Sept 5. We will be celebrating our son's 3 birthday on Sept 4. I didn't think much of it because our travel agent told us this was fine, they go by his age at check-in. I want to make sure that we are doing nothing wrong and do plan to bring his birth certificate. Now I guess I am just wanting to double check to see if we should plan on buying him individual tickets our last 2 days at the park and if we should be paying for his meals those last 2 days (2 buffets planned in that time). Please tell me there is a distinct right/wrong answer!

Every post I've read that asks this question said that your child remains the same age as they were at check in for the entire trip. You have nothing to worry about.

Okay, I'm editing to clarify. The child stays the same age in Disney's eyes for ticketing purposes. Even though not many of us grow up at Disney, your child will still turn 3

We did this with our dd when she was turning three. We were told, repeatedly, by Disney reps that she was 2 as far as they were concerned. The age of the child at check-in is the only one that counts.

You will have to pay for buffets though upon his third birthday.

Thanks so much! That was a quick response! I guess I feel pretty ok/confident about the park tickets, but feel a little weird about the meals. When I called to make our ADR for our son's birthday dinner, I told them the CM it was his birthday so it would be noted on the reservation. She asked me if I wanted her to put 2 instead of 3 for us. I said no, but just thought it was kind of weird for her to ask and wondered what her motive was, but I just let it go.... I guess if we have any problems we'll pay for a meal. Much cheaper than park tickets at least! But hopefully we'll be ok anyways. I guess I won't make it an issue unless it becomes one. Thanks for making me feel better about it though and making sure I have a clear conscience!

I had the same experience as this. My DD turned 3 in the middle of our trip. She was counted as a 2 year old as far as tickets went, but on her b-day we ate at Chef Mickey's and 1900 PF. Chef Mickey's did not charge her, but 1900 PF did. We told the restaurants the next day that she was 3, not 2 and paid for her meals.

OT, but one other interesting thing to note. We originally booked the land and sea package for the week of my daughter's birthday. Because she was 2 at the beginning of the trip we would not have had to pay for her on the cruise! However, Hurricane Katrina messed up those nice laid plans and we lost part of our school vacation. So, we cancelled the land/sea and headed to Disney during the evacuation and had a great time!

We have a similar situation in that DD will turn 10 half way through our trip. We were assured by our travel agent that Disney will consider her 9 for our entire trip. That holds true for her dining plan as well. I was very concerned that someone would think we were trying to rip them off. There is a pretty significant price difference between the child and adult price. Just to be sure, I asked the pros here if this was true and they gave me the same answer

We were in the same situatuon with my DD9. We took her when she was 2 turning 3 during the trip and were told the same thing.
