Son seeing an ENT doctor tomorrow

Thanks for all the responses!

Well after visiting with the ENT, my son has fluid in both ears, has hearing toruble in his left ear from the fluid (which results in his lack of speaking). So, june 26th we are having tubes put in and his adnoids out. Scary for me...but I know it is the best solution for him. As a mother/teacher, I don't want him to suffer or be delayed in his development if I can help it.

Thanks again for the positive words!

I mentioned in my PP that DS has a speech delay due to fluid in his ears. I consulted our pediatrician, a friend who is a speech pathologist and our ENT. All agreed that his speech was likely to catch up with the tubes if the post hearing test come back normal. his hearing was normal after the tubes and after about 6 months I was still concerned about his speech. DS had a speech evaluation and he is right on target. Now after 9 months since the tubes he is doing well and his speech is so much better. Good luck with the procedure, I hope all goes as planned.

It'll be fine. My son was just 2 when he got his adenoids out & did fine. Then he was 3 1/2 for the tubes. It's good to get them done at the same time. I must say, your Dr. will probably tell you this but about a day after surgery, his breath will be horrible! Just a warning.

Tubes run in our family. I had them as a child and got them again in my mid 30's. My DS got them at age 3 and again at age 5. One of my DD's just got them at 12 months. So far no complications. We do need to get them put back in every once in a while. Their hearing improved incredibly... Kids do a lot better with them. My DS thinks their cool because he gets a new special suprise (toy) on the way home from the hospital. It gets him through the scary stuff. Good Luck!!!
