Hi again! I've been told there is no such thing as a stupid question but this might just qualifiy. I am contemplating the Rainforest Shower at the spa on board and am just wondering, what do any of you do to keep yourselves entertained while in the saunas? You couldn't really bring any book or paper in because it would obviously get wet and disintigrate but if you are alone, what then? I am not ADHD but I don't like to just sit and stare at a tile wall either, are there windows to look out? somehow I doubt it. Is it obvious I have never done a spa treatment before? Oh well better to just ask than be mystified.
Thanks for not laughing too loud:)

Hi Minnesota,

I don't think it's a stupid question at all. I'm curious to see what answers you get!

Tina

You are right...there are no windows to look out of. I, for one, really just like to close my eyes and relax...one of the few times that I don't have to have my eyes open!!!

You would be hard pressed to stay awake on those heated tiled lounges!!!

MJ

I also close my eyes and relax and I'm the type of person that I always need to be doing something. The RAinforest is especially wonderful after a massage!

Hi Minnesota.

but if you are alone, what then?

Theoretically speaking, are we ever REALLY alone???...

what do any of you do to keep yourselves entertained while in the saunas? You couldn't really bring any book or paper in because it would obviously get wet and disintigrate

You can sit, relax and watch your book disintigrate...

I have seen people bring books in. They typically read in the tile area not the saunas. I do think they'd get a little wet in there.

The rainforest is co-ed, right? And people wear swimsuits? I'm thinking that my husband (Mr. Soaks in the tub for hours) would love it, while I would be ready to do something else in ten minutes.

Excellent question Minnesota. I would like to try this next time too but my concerns are:

(1) What do people usually do sitting around in there?

(2) How long do you usually stay in here?

and most important to me...

(3) How sanitary is this? How clean do they keep it? Do people walk around barefoot? Everyone wears clothing and it isn't clothing-optional, right? I can just imagine me in there waiting for a tile lounger, someone finally get's up and I notice them sweating profusely. I CAN'T SIT THERE AFTER THAT??!! I am a huge germ-phobe (not so obvious, eh?)...will I be grossed out to the point that I can't relax?

Hi Melody.

(1) What do people usually do sitting around in there?

It seems from the posts that most people simply close their eyes and relax.

(2) How long do you usually stay in here?

I can stay here in the Dis for hours!

Melody, it's a sauna. People are going to sweat because that is the intention. You might want to get there first thing in the morning before you are joined by others purging their toxins.

DCL would never allow a clothing-optional spa. Many years ago I went to a nude beach on the left coast. Laid down on my stomach. The crowds arrived shortly after. Beautiful women everywhere. I had to enlist the help of my entire stock of male mind-over-matter techniques to stroll out of there with my pride intact...

I do have ADHD....and sitting in the rainforest staring at the ceiling WILL drive me nuts-I will probably only last about 3-5 minutes or so...so this was definately not a dumb question....

Well now that's an image I didn't need on this Sabbath Day! ;)

I think I am one of the few people who didn't really go crazy over the rainforest. I was bored and felt like I didn't quite know what to do with myself. I am not good at napping in front of other people.
I wished I had brought in a book. In the main room with the loungers a book would have been fine. One of the steam rooms was not working well when we were there and the other one was very crowded. There was also a gentle sauna room with very little steam at all.
The showers were neat- I guess you could have laid your book down somewhere where it would not get too damp.
Everyone had on swimsuits and you also get a robe.
Hope this helps.

Oh, thanks for that visual, BD!!!! Now how am I ever going to look you in the eye?!@

So Rae, where are going to look. Sorry, I just couldn't resist!:p

Rae is only going to look for shrimp.

I think BD is safe unless he has shrimp in his hands.

Oh, the visuals on this board. BD I hope you are not on the 8/2 cruise I wouldnt be able to look you in the eye either.

So do you lay on the tile loungers for awhile then the sauna, showers or what? I want to try this on 8/2.

Rona

Also questioned whether or not SSB would enjoy this... and did not even try until 2nd or 3rd cruise... and SO love it!!

Since then, have always bought the "length of cruise" dealee, to enjoy it a couple of times a day. SSB loves the intensity of the very hot saunas, mixed with the great shower area, comfortable hanging around lounge chairs, and the hot room. All very non-technical terms for these places, but you know what I mean... haha!

:)

I am going to look at BD's feet - you know the expression, "Big Feet....."

And you are right, Rona - unless he is holding a shrimp, he will be safe from me!!!!!

Rae

I just reread what I wrote.

Sometimes I even crack myself up.

Rae

Hey Rona.

do you lay on the tile loungers for awhile

Only if you know them on a first name basis...

Otherwise you LIE on them... lol.

Yo Rae.

I am going to look at BD's feet - you know the expression, "Big Feet....."

I thought you said in a previous thread that size didn't matter???

Hi Suzanne.

So Rae, where are going to look.

Rae MIGHT say she was going to look AFTER my best interests, but now I think she wants to look AT them...

***Buckaroo's Dad looks around for Webmaster Michelle, thinking this thread might be heading in a somewhat prurient direction***
The mods here at the Dis are just like the cops on Long Island - never around when ya need 'em. lol.
