Somewhat of a debate: Adults playing videogames!

I'm sorry, but I just don't understand why an adult would play a game system like Gameboy, Nintendo or Playstation. My sister's husband has a system and is seriously into the games. My husband has never even looked at a videogame once he outgrew adolescence and neither have I. I just don't get the attraction that a video game would have for an adult. Whenever I hear of an adult playing one, I figuratively make the sign of an 'L' on my forehead. (Loser). Maybe someone can explain it to me, because I don't get it.

I take the playstation into the delivery room with me. I play while I am in labor..that way I have something to focus on.

DH plays football seasons. But they can be addicting and you have to be careful.

I don't like them. I don't even like Disney Quest - except for the cheesecake.;)

And there are some folks who can't understand the attraction of a place such as the DIS (my DH for example). To those folks they too could put an L on their forehead to describe folks who visit chat boards. To each own I say, unless it becomes an obsession each person should be allowed to spend their leisure time the way they feel comfortable or enjoy ;)

The last video game I played was Pac Man. Somehow the whole phenomenon just passed me by. I tried to play the Haunted Mansion game at Innovations but I sucked at it. I would probably like them if I really took the time, but I'll pass, thanks.

Loser? No way!

You should see all of DH's friends that have come over to play video games. They are all professionals, highly educated guys in their 30's! They are like little kids playing, they really get into it and are very competitive. Personally, video games aren't my thing, but I respect others interests.

Video Games are like taking a movie to the next level. You can change the outcome of the movie, you can be IN the movie.

To each his own.

Well said. To each his own. My husband plays computer games online. My first husband drank. Guess which one I prefer. I like certain games, and can get wrapped up in them for a while. They can be very distracting when life is overwhelming.

My dh plays them. Mostly computer games now, but he likes the PS2 and the GameCube...when he can get it away from ds (6). DH and DS like to play them together. I like the Mario Kart video games. I want to get the new one so I can whoop ds's butt at it! I like to play some games here and there on the computer, but I'm not all into it. DS wants to be Sora from Kingdom Hearts for Halloween and dh is all excited to make a keyblade. When it comes to having a good time with ds, dh and I are big kids. There are some toys, like light sabers, that if I buy one for ds I have to buy one for dh. I mostly play around on boards. Dh will ask me what I'm doing and I'll say,"Playin'"..."What are you playing?"..."Boards".

We have a Game Cube. We have few games though. Chris has a couple of the sports games. I like the driving games like Mario Kart, Simpson's Hit & Run and Simpsons Road Rage. We play them on occasion, when the mood strikes.

As for PC Games, I love Roller Coaster Tycoon and The Sims. I can't wait for RCT3 and The Sims 2 this fall.....:D

I feel the same way about watching sports on TV. How can anyone sit there and watch that? My husband hasn't so much as watched a football game yet I have a BIL that has to be near a TV all weekend. It's sick I tell. Sick! LOSER! LOL!

We all need tension releases. Video games, internet, cartoons, tv....whatever floats your boat.

My dh is a gamer. Mostly computer stuff now, but will play Xbox with ds. His brother is also big on it and they've both done a bunch of beta testing. Bil is a software Engineer and his company will even have competitions on games after hours/weekends, etc just for fun. I guess it's a computer geek company picnic of sorts, lol. (And when I say computer geek, it's not a put down, it's a bunch of people who know way more about computers than I ever will, and that's what they call themselves too!).

This what makes the world such a great place. We can all have our different interests and ways to release tension. To each his own.

Tell you what, I won't call you a loser for things that you enjoy and I'm not fond of and you do the same thing for me.

I love video games and hope I always will. We have a PS2, GameCube, XBox, Sega, Gameboy Color and a N64 in our house. People think that WDW is strictly for kids and we all know that's not true. A lot of games are actually aimed towards adults. Of course not everyone is going to be interested in them. But I don't see the big deal with adults who play video games. It's fun.

My SO watches news programs or C-span all the time! All ... the ... time. ::yes:: If he's not watching a news channel, he's watching the History Channel or the Travel Channel or Animal Planet or PBS, or college football or college basket ball games or cartoons. He loves to watch television. Or reading! The guy can start and maybe finish 2 or three books in a weekend!

I play on the Internet ... way too much :o ... or read magazines, or shop, how I love to shop or bake, I love to bake! And cook! I cook a great breakfast or dinner!

As ToriLammy, faithinkarma, Gina and everyone else said, we all need something to destress and enjoy in our life. Whatever floats your boat! As long as it's not harmful to someone else I say go for it! Do it! Enjoy your down time any way you want! ::yes::

::yes:: ::yes:: Except reverse - I play on the computer and he plays on the X-Box. It's just a hobby, much like the DIS and most other things in my life. Who am I to judge what hobby is better than others, and at what age someone is "too old" for a each hobby? Heck, I still read Harry Potter!

My husband and I have 2 computers, a gameboy, a gameboy advanced, playstation 1&2, and a gamecube. That's what we do with our spare time. I think it's a generational thing. My sister and her husband are 5 years older and they don't have any game systems. We're in our late 20s.

Besides, what's the difference b/t computer games and the internet?

OK OK I admit it. I once let the lasagna burn because I was playing Zelda and forgot all about it. But hey, isn't that what pizza was invented for?
