Us at 3am this morning!!!!

Flying East is certainly way worse than going West!

But, despite us looking like we had been sleep deprived for about 14 years, we did manage to enjoy some hot and spicy Indian food, it was so good after not eating spicy food for weeks and we managed to get all the clothes washed, will hang them all out today and we put everything in it`s place and sorted out who is getting what from our haul.

Today, I`ve been downstairs since around 4.30am, not doing much at all but Kyle is coming over later this morning, he`ll have lunch with us, watch the Imola F1 GP then we`re having takeout food again tonight with him too. We usually see him our first night home, but,he had plans last night and they sounded a lot of fun, so it`ll be lovely seeing him for the day and catch up properly 🥰🥰🥰

We do have a grocery delivery coming in about an hour, I ordered stuff I don`t usually get from grocery stores, so hope for the best but saves us going out today or tomorrow. Kyle brought over to our house milk and other items yesterday morning after his run, so we had a start, getting some real tea made us happy!!!! That and French Toast with bacon and maple syrup will do lovely today!!

Time for a wake up shower and hope we can stay awake all day till 10pm tonight and if we can, we shouldn`t take too long to get over the dreaded jet lag this time around!! Having Kyle visit for the day will make sure we do.

Another pot of tea time I think for me, sleeping beauty is still out for the count, so will leave him for a time, but won`t let him sleep for too long!!

Welcome home to Kyle and real tea! I can't imagine what jet lag must be like after that long flight! If you get over it in one day, I think that's amazing. Have a good day with Kyle and relaxing with a good cup of tea:)

Real tea and bacon are the best! Cannot be beaten anywhere ::yes:: It was lovely spending the afternoon and early evening with Kyle, there was a lot to catch up on from him, so we spent the whole day talking, laughing and lots of shared stories!

Well, my expectations were way off and far too hopeful!!! I thought we’d got lucky but, no, went to bed around 10pm last night, we were really tired after Kyle went home…..we fought the urge to sleep around 8pm deciding we’d be so tired when we did get to bed we’d sleep till 10am today.

1.30am we were both bright as buttons 👀

At 4.45 we heard the milkman come up the drive, so we nudged each other for 10 minutes to see which one of us should go bring in the milk, eggs and butter…..I eventually got up!

So, can’t see us going far today, Tom is back sleeping….I can hear him!!!

Mini pot of tea for me (my second in almost two hours) and I hope to get back to sleep soon, thankfully by yesterday afternoon all our laundry has been washed, dried, ironed and put away so we can be lazy if we want for a few days.

Plan to start sorting out pictures in a few days, always takes longer than I think :)

Kyle brought over to our house milk and other items yesterday morning after his run,
He is a real keeper! :).

IDK you two sound like super troopers to me. I’m tired coming home after a two hour flight in the same time zone lol

He is a superstar! He knows I love flowers in the house so that was a nice surprise

Haha……I’ll take super trooper, oh yes, any flight can be tiring ✈️

So, we are pushing through right now, stayed up till 11pm last night and slept till 4am…..got back over though and slept till 8am! You’d think we’d feel amazing this morning……haha again, even a good shower didn’t properly wake me up.

1747728307306.gif

I made a chicken Caesar salad for dinner last night, it’s not really important what we had I guess :P but, anyway I was talking about how the dressing I had made didn’t have enough garlic and too much lemon juice, anyway, I leaned my elbow on the table for a minute and fell asleep mid sentence for about 15 seconds!!

Jet lag is the weirdest thing, I’m guessing in a few days we’ll be back to normal!

We plan to go out today to get some shopping from a few places, hopefully the fresh air will wake us up, it is fresh out there 🥶 actually not too bad, we have 52F right now but a massive high of 60F this afternoon……we’re being spoiled 8-)

I want to be in lizard weather again! I think it’s to be nicer next week :sunny:

I do need to get those pictures uploaded and into Smugmug! Even though we think we didn’t take as many pictures as we usually do, it still takes forever for some reason.

Time to move :)

It's a hard mental move from vacation to "back to life, back to reality."
I think you're doing great and should be commended for taking care of that laundry the minute you landed

It really is!! And this was a slightly shorter trip, but getting back into the groove now, I think!!

I am a little obsessive about laundry (or so I`m told) cleaning too apparently, I`m not quite "Monica" but if it needs doing, get it done then chill out. I`m sitting in the office right now and I`m noticing the windows have marks on them, we told our window cleaner not to come while we were away as no one would be here to open the gate, but now I wish he had been!!! I think he comes next week, will be glad to see them.

I`ll take the commendation though.......😁

/
I have finally started to upload the pictures to my laptop, then I need to transfer them over to Smugmug.

I think this is the longest Jetlag has affected us for a while, it kind of feels like a hangover all day, so I`ve been having plenty of tea all day to try and keep me awake and hot milk at night, but still woke up around 4.30 this morning bright as a button while sleeping beauty was still sound as a pound.

But, plenty of tea today as it is.......🫖🫖🫖

1747822521607.webp

One of my friends is coming round later for afternoon tea, another tea drinker like myself so that`ll be nice, picked up some goodies this morning for that.

1747822454314.jpeg

I know there`s not many tea drinkers on here and I know I was the only "real" tea drinker on the Sans, so not many will join in, but for us tea lovers, we`ll indulge some more today!!!

And get those pictures worked on!!!

Happy Wednesday!!!

I am all over National Tea Day! 🫖
Today I've had Supreme Breakfast and Royal Palace Teas, and I might have some Genmaicha later

Later, friends want to meet for Mexican food and a Girls' Night.
I agreed, and now I want to stay home.
It's raw and windy, and there's a nor'easter coming tomorrow.
I'll go and console myself with a coconut or pomegranate margarita.
I'll have fun once I'm there; it's just hard to be enthusiastic about the effort to get ready 🍹

Thanks Janet!

Well, we’re only home a few hours and can feel the eyes trying to close without my permission, but I have done two laundry loads, put everything away we bought, sorted out everyone’s gifts including those Tide Pens and sent some emails!

Going to order Indian food fairly early for us then try to stay awake till 10pm our time, but not sure that’s going to happen. Jet lag sucks!!! (But worth it :P )
I love tea and don't drink coffee at all! In fact, whenever one of my coworkers are sick, they always come for me for tea.

If you love Tide Pens, have you tried the Tide Wipes? I have the pens and wipes everywhere, car, house, handbag, work, etc. Life changing, I get it!

Speaking of Indian food, have you guys tried Dishoom? I know there are about ten in London but there is also one in Edinburgh. My absolute favorite Indian food!

I hope you get over your jet lag! Yes, it is so bad on an East to West red-eye!

Isn’t it lovely! But, you’ve teased me with a tea, I’ve never tried Genmaicha as I’m not fond of green tea generally, but The Tea Makers of London do a small almost sample size, so as I got an email from them last night announcing the first flush of Darjeeling 2025 is now available I might order some. Who knew you were supposed to get so excited over a first batch of tea!

Wine most certainly yes, tea, well, also yes apparently!

Hope you had a lovely night and enjoyed your meal out, I agree when it’s bitterly cold and miserable outside, one just wants to stay home and get cosy! Margaritas help though ::yes::

Oh I’m keeping quiet about the wipes to everyone! I swear the Cult of Tide is becoming a thing!!!! I haven’t seen them no, but will look in September, yes those pens are amazing.

Another tea fan!! I admit I can’t wrap my head around iced/sweet tea as it’s not tea as we know it, but each to their own. I did have one coffee in Orlando, a creamy latte and it was nice, but that’s enough coffee to do me till Christmas!

No, we’ve never eaten there as we don’t have one close to us, there is one in Manchester I believe. We had Indian food our first night home, I was craving hot and spicy and we got it from a local hole in the wall type of restaurant about 20 minutes away from us. Gorgeous!

Yes thankfully we are getting over it slowly, slept well last night until 6ish this morning, so hopefully we’re back to normal now.

Good to see you :wave2:

Yes, finally getting myself over jetlag and sorted out with the pictures this afternoon and now I can get started. It seems so long ago this trip was much anticipated and now it`s complete, but I always enjoy reliving it and it`s always lovely to have your company along the way too :flower3:

TRAVEL TO THE AIRPORT DAY

Monday April 28th

The last few days had been pretty busy, preparing for a trip even for non planners like us there`s a small amount of daily stuff to deal with and the nicer parts are the salon visit on Saturday morning, some nice food, wine and a movie on the evening followed by packing for our trip and then on Sunday we watched Kyle run the Manchester Marathon for the second year.

It was on the same day as the London Marathon this year and is never televised the way London is, but we can watch it on a live stream on Youtube and followed along his route online which of course we did and never moved, especially towards the end when we knew he would be finishing.

It was a tough race and loads of folks gave up and we never saw so many folks helped over the line before, but he finished in 3hrs 38mins, he really wanted 3hrs 30, but 8 minutes is not too bad to be over what you hoped for.

As he was driving home after their two night stay on the Monday, I had suggested he meet us here today before going home and we could have lunch and hear all about it, I`d hate to think we`d have passed one another on the motorway with us heading up to Manchester, he thought it was a good idea too and he planned to drive the short 20 minutes or so from his hotel to meet us here today, we were so excited to see him

Our car service picked us up earlier than usual as we wanted to get there for just after 11am instead of our usual 12.30 arrival, and we had a good journey and chatted the whole way up, usually about food which is why I`m always starving by the time we get there. The drive up was lovely, the sun was shining all the way and time passed very quickly.

When we got there it seemed very quiet which is always nice and we headed up to reception which is one the third floor and get checked in even though our room wouldn`t be ready, even having early check in as standard for us, 11am is a little early, so we planned to drop the bags and go sit in the lobby bar till Kyle arrived which shouldn`t be too long now.

The doors below lead out the the Skywalk which takes you to either terminal 1 or 2, ideal in cold weather!!

i-cktqVGz-X2.jpg

i-pQsd3wb-X2.jpg

We got checked in and the lady said she was aware we had a runway view and early check in as a standing upgrade, but one of the first rooms ready would be a non runway view if we wanted it, we said yes that would be fine as we can see the runway from the Lounge anyway, we said we`d be going to lunch and come back and see if it was ready then. We also asked if we get parking validated for our son as he would be parking for a few hours but not staying, she said no problem, she`d make sure to organise that.

We also let them know he would be coming upstairs and will be in the lounge for a hour or so but would have left before any of the food or drink was served, she again said don`t worry about it but thank you for being honest!! I`m guessing a few folks have tried to sneak someone in who should not have been there, we wouldn`t do that but I guess there are folks that would.

We went into the bar and sat at a table and a few minutes later our star runner appeared looking as fresh as paint!!!!!

He told us about it as we ordered drinks, bottle of bubbly for us as is our tradition to start our trip off with and Kyle ordered an orange and mango drink and we toasted both him for his incredible achievement and of course, the start of our hopefully wonderful trip!!!

i-JFjHp5D-X2.jpg

The Marathon live feed last year was so much better, but we did manage to capture him as he crossed the finish line the day before, with his very faded Universal Orlando cap. I wouldn`t mind but he has three others unused yet! But, he says that one is comfy 😊 This camera moved around rather than being set like last year, so if they zoomed in or moved the camera away, we could have missed him, but we got lucky.

i-5xpX3TR-L.jpg

❤️

But, lunch was on all our minds now, Kyle said they had eaten around 8ish before Chloe left in her car as she was meeting her parents to go away for a couple of days and I admit as we had had breakfast early we were starving now too.

The Little M Bar offers a fairly limited lunch menu but there is something for most people and we all went for sandwiches, Tom and Kyle both ordered the Ham and Tomato sandwich and I went for the Smoked Salmon which came with a bagel which I don`t like, so had it with white bread and all three sandwiches were lovely, very fresh and tasty too.

i-NTnR9zJ-X2.jpg

i-n9MXNVF-X2.jpg

They don`t serve desserts or pizzas till 3pm, but somehow Kyle managed to charm a rather large portion of chocolate ice cream to be served to him, I think the waitress saw his marathon shirt and got chatting to him and decided he deserved it, nice girl and she got an extra tip for that!!

We paid and headed over to reception where they said our room was ready so we headed up and it was quite surreal having Kyle with us again, but knowing he wasn`t coming with us was kind of odd. It was nice though having him here for a few hours and of course our kids can`t come with us forever on trips, if they`re living their own life happy and content then all`s well. It was lovely though.

We don`t mind a City view room as we have the Executive Lounge which faces the airport so it`s fine for us, although you do have to kind of squint to see Manchester from here, it`s around 10 miles away and if you did want to go into the City from here there are trams that run direct and they are very frequent, we just never bother.

i-czG7rsJ-X2.jpg

It doesn`t look huge in this picture but Manchester is a fair old size and a fabulous city we don`t visit often enough. I have a load of cousins and some friends all live there and in surrounding areas, we constantly promise to make a visit, but we don`t often get up here. I tend not to tell most of them when we fly out as I have visions of them all turning up here at the hotel!!!

i-6nN8WxV-X2.jpg

I think most of you will know these hotel rooms as well as we do by now, yes, this is our favourite hotel for our overnight, the convenience of being attached to both terminals outweighs the cost, so it`s worth it for us.

Beds are incredibly comfortable, probably doesn`t matter so much as we are like excited toddlers on Christmas Eve and rarely sleep much at all, but they are very nice. I had brought a copy of Wuthering Heights with me, so I had a book if I really couldn`t sleep, never leave home without one.

I`m also wondering where our 4th suitcase is right now as I could swear we sat them altogether!!

i-xkFmvsn-X2.jpg

i-vLtj3wS-X2.jpg

Someone is very proud of his finishers shirt!!! 🥰

Although I think many agreed it`s not the best Marathon shirt to win, again, many prefer last years shirt which was really nice and it was clear it was a Manchester Marathon shirt.

i-CSSxHnp-X2.jpg

And they have gone back to the nicer biscuits to go with a cup of tea in the room, last few years it`s been a cheaper brand which weren`t nice at all. We usually bring our own if we fancy something but Kyle immediately spotted the chocolate ones and they miraculously disappeared, well he was off training now for a couple of weeks so I think he planned to have a few treats and quite right too, that boy does love chocolate!!

i-xjFNPTx-X2.jpg

We did like the new little touch in the rooms, two small bottles of wine which were very nice, we didn`t expect much looking at them, but they were quite drinkable. Although the lounge offers complimentary wine, beers and liquor from 5pm it was still nice having this in your room.

I did give the glasses a wash before using them, you just never know, same with the cups, spoons and kettle too, we boil that several times before using it. I might be too paranoid of course......👀

i-R44VXwW-X2.jpg

i-JbDb8jC-X2.jpg

The bathrooms are nice and it has underfloor heating which should be mandatory in every bathroom as far as I`m concerned, it`s just so much nicer and I`m even getting used to the shared products all on the wall like a public bathroom. I never use them instead prefer to bring my own but they are quite nice products from the reviews.

i-VfBmx7h-X2.jpg

i-dRDLZ59-X2.jpg

i-qCj7JPR-X2.jpg

The room has a decent sized safe, iron, board and comfy robes and those awful wafer thin slippers. They do have good hangers and plenty of them for what is usually a one night stay here.

i-MQQMz3N-X2.jpg

So, I`ve made a start....finally!!! I do hope to get through this one in a reasonably decent time....the last one took a ridiculous amount of time to finish, but well, sometimes life gets in the way.

However, it`s up and running now, hope you enjoy it too ☺️

i-hfHXGMz-S.gif

And as I always seem to say, more coming right up ::yes::

Go Kyle! He is so grown up and such a handsome young man!

Tell Kyle he should look at running the Miami Marathon! The course is completely either over water or beside that beautiful, turquoise sparkling water and it is in January and it is always warm and sunny!

Enjoying your report!

Great to see the “official” trip report start - can’t wait to read this one and enjoyed all the updates while you were there!

Nice start. Congrats to your son on the marathon when I lived in Boston, I loved watching them finish downtown such an accomplishment.

And as I always seem to say, more coming right up ::yes::

Woohoo 🥳 Carol’s fabulous trip report has begun!
:flower1:
😀Brenda

We decided then to go down to the Lounge for a cuppa and sit in the sunshine for a couple of hours, Kyle planned to stay another hour or so then head down to his car and get home, unfortunately he had to drive through rush hour, but once he left the Manchester area it wouldn`t be too bad.

The Executive Lounge used to have it`s own dedicated check in up here on the 9th floor, but after Covid that disappeared and everyone checks in and out in the main lobby. They do have a little sitting area now and you sometimes see folks sitting there now and again, better than laying empty I guess.

As with most lounges you need a room key to access the lounge and in recent years they have added the signs explaining that children under 12 are not permitted after 4pm, it`s amazing how many we have seen over the years try to get around that very simple explanation!

The lounge at this time of day is always deserted or very, very quiet and today there was no-one else in with us which is nice to be fair, Tom makes himself a coffee and Kyle gets a hot chocolate which he said was quite nice, I`d make a tea with the dreaded teabags when I had taken some pictures.

The seats aren`t the most comfortable to be honest, but take away the back cushions and it`s better, but they`re not awful.

During the day teas, coffee and cold non alcoholic drinks are available along with some snacks, I do like a little Tonic Water so it`s nice to be able to help yourself.

It is lovely sitting with the sun blazing in on afternoon`s like these, it does get a little too hot later, they could be doing with blinds for that afternoon sun, but that lizard in me loves soaking up that heat, yes the family and friends really do call me the lizard as I adore the heat but hate cold! I thank my friend for this meme!!!

Around 3pm Kyle said he was going to head home, we had huge hugs and said we`d facetime at some point while we were away, he headed downstairs to get his parking validated and we watched as he drove off somewhat sad he wasn`t with us but time`s change and he has a fabulous life going on, albeit still just 20 minutes away from us which is perfect and we still see him a fair bit every week.

It had just been so lovely to see him today and hear everything about yesterday fresh and not a week or so later, we are so proud of him in everything he does 🥰🥰🥰

He gave us a huge wave from the car park and off he went and he made it home in just over 3 hours which was ok for the time of day.

I checked my emails and saw we both had one to say online check in was available so I did mine first and it went through fine, I did Tom`s and he got a note saying it couldn`t be completed, so I had a little panic as I was worried that these flights had been messed up somehow, but this happens sometimes and it just means you`ve been chosen for an extra check tomorrow, so I stopped worrying at that point, especially since he had received the email to order his meal last week!!!! Yep, I`m a worrier.

At that we saw one of the late Virgin flights heading off, I think it was the New York flight, but nice to see their planes.

Manchester Airport has reintroduced over the last couple of years, Twilight bag drop and check in between 4pm and 8pm, but we decided not to bother with it, I like having all our luggage with us in case we need something in the cases and a couple of times we said did we think we should do it, but to be honest check in and bag drop in the morning isn`t too bad now, so we made ourselves comfy and stayed where we were.

Around 4.20 we were surprised when they put out the cold appetisers and said we could have a drink too, that was early, not that we were complaining of course and again, there were only a few of us in at this time.

It`s always a no to Blue Cheese!!!

Between us we had some olives and some of the continental meats, the proscuitto was particularly nice so I did eat a little of that over the couple of hours.

We used to always go down to the Collage Restaurant for dinner for many years, but this was plenty for us being honest as we always have a good lunch, snacking suits us better the night before our flight.

We were glad to see they were still doing Prosecco, although we do like red and white wines, the red can be heavy and the white is not very nice, so this is a nice choice. We don`t drink hard liquor the night before as the last thing we want is a bad head!!! Prosecco is perfect.

Did I just say I don`t drink hard liquor before a flight?????

:rolleyes1

They used to offer a cocktail tree, but now they come around and ask if you`d like one their offerings, I think they have three to choose from and this was something fruity, I forget what it was and it certainly wasn`t strong which was nice, and I had one and went back to the Prosecco.

Passing the time in here is just nice and relaxing, the young man looking after us was lovely and we got chatting and I mentioned a man who used to work as the restaurant manager who we had known for years then he left to go work at the City Centre hotel and we did miss him and someone told us he might be coming back, his name was Ibrahim. Gowtham smiled and said he had heard of him from a lot of people, I did wish he would come back here as he was just the nicest man, we ask every time we visit if he`s back, but sadly no.

Around 5pm they put out the hot appetisers, I admit they`re not the most flavoursome of food. The little mini pies are supposed to be beef and something but they are bland as are the samosa`s and the mozarella sticks are not something we like, so we stick to the cold offerings.

i-XBxJBvf-X2.jpg

The desserts vary each time and tonight both Tom and I were happy as they had a dense chocolate cake and a lemon tart which was surprisingly nice, so we had one of each and that was enough for us to be honest.

I don`t think we take full advantage of the lounge as we don`t drink a huge amount when we`re here again, no one wants to feel bad when you`re flying but we like it and it`s a comfortable space to spend some time in rather than sitting in the room watching tv. Some do take full advantage for sure, but for the most part no one seems to ever be innebriated, they do watch what people are taking too.

It was just starting to get a little dusky outside now and I was daydreaming and staring out the window when I heard a voice say "Well hello" I looked up and there was the much missed Ibrahim!!!! He was back!

Oh my goodness, it was like seeing an old friend again and I couldn`t quite believe he was here, he said he had to go see a guest and would be back over in a minute, we were so thrilled to see him again and completely surprised!!!

The young man in the lounge had called him down and said there was a couple asking after him and could he pop up, but what he told us later was he had seen Kyle in the lobby getting his parking validated and remembered him, asked him if we were all here, Kyle explained he wasn`t staying but his mum and dad were in the lounge and we`d love to see him, so as soon as he had a chance he planned to pop up!!

We had such a good catch up and things had been so good for him over the last few years but he had always wanted to come back to this hotel and we were glad he did. I laughed and said I didn`t want to sound like a stalker but we had asked every trip about him, he laughed and said he knew what I meant.

After about 20 minutes he had to go back downstairs but we said we`d be back in September and he said he`d be here unless his day off changed, but it was so good to see him.

I thanked Gowtham too for letting him know someone was asking after him.

We sat back and I was answering some emails, one from A at the hotel saying they were looking forward to seeing us tomorrow, always ramps up that excitement!!!

We sat a little longer but a couple of the ladies were getting a bit lively, so as I got up to pick up my bag another lady spilled some red wine over me, she could not have been more apologetic as she wasn`t one of the lively ones, they had bumped her and chain reaction happens. I told her it was fine and not to worry, it would come out, I hoped, but not her fault at all.

Gowtham said if I wanted to go change he`d get it laundered and sent to our room by morning if not later tonight, so I hustled back to the room, got changed into jammies and Tom took the dress down and they said it would be back by 11pm or it could be delivered at a time of our choosing in the morning, wow, good service indeed.

He said 11 would be fine, we`d be awake but if it wasn`t ready then anytime after 5.30am would be good.

Back in the room we ordered a pot of tea, better than smashing a tea bag in a cup with the fake milk they offer in rooms and it arrived within 15 minutes, so we sat back with a proper cuppa and watched something or other on tv while on our devices at the same time, nice relaxing evening.

At 10.45 we did think of putting the light out, and just at that the door was knocked and it was my dress, cleaned and ironed too and I was happy the red wine stain came out. I asked if the cost would be put on the room or did I pay it seperately, they said no charge which was darn decent of them so the lady got a good tip for her trouble.

I decided as it was sparkling clean I`d wear it tomorrow, save me rustling through deciding what to wear for the flight, sorted!!

We then brushed our teeth and put the light off hoping we`d sleep, but at this point, we weren`t convinced that would happen, we had set every alarm possible, just in case!!! But, the night before we fly is never the easiest night to fall asleep......

Flight day up next ✈️✈️✈️

Go Kyle! He is so grown up and such a handsome young man!

Tell Kyle he should look at running the Miami Marathon! The course is completely either over water or beside that beautiful, turquoise sparkling water and it is in January and it is always warm and sunny!

Enjoying your report!

Thanks, we think so too, not that we`re biased 🥰

He would enjoy that marathon as he does like running in the heat as he rarely sweats, I think they have several that they`d love to do around the world, so many to choose from!

Glad to hear you`re enjoying it ::yes::

Great to see the “official” trip report start - can’t wait to read this one and enjoyed all the updates while you were there!

Aww thanks, glad to hear it!

I barely know my own name until jetlag clears, so less than a week is not bad at all :)
