I've been perusing the DisBoards for a while now -- especially lately, as we'll going back again next year. I've noticed a lot of stories from people about what went bad (some of them horrifying, and about the resort where we'll be staying...) This makes my overly-worrisome self go all panicky, so I was hoping you would indulge me...

What's something at the parks or resorts that made you smile? It doesn't have to be a magical moment or something that a cast member did for you. Just something that you saw or happened that made you think, "That's awesome. Only in Disney."

Maybe your kid got excited by seeing the animal towels.

Maybe a complete stranger held the door open for you.

Maybe you made a new BFFL.

Post your happy stories! Please and thank you :)

I'm changing DS (3 months old at the time) at the restrooms by the Country Bear Jamboree, and I notice a staff member feverishly cleaning. I stopped him as I was leaving and thanked him for his dedication even as people were throwing things on the floor around him. He thanked me, and pulled out some "anywhere, anytime" FP's. I was shocked and started to say "no I can't" and then realized while they were more valuable than money at the time, they had no monetary value and the CM wasn't losing anything. Best surprise for being polite I've had in the parks.

That's awesome. :) It always pays to be kind!

DH and I were spending our last night of the trip in the MK. We'd been celebrating his retirement and our 45th wedding anniversary. I was checking out at the Emporium, making small talk with the CM when she asked how I was enjoying the trip. I explained to her we were there as a "couple" for the first time since 1978 to celebrate. She excused herself, returned and asked if I had a moment. Told her sure...was still 30 minutes before Wishes began and she again left. Returning in a few minutes she handed me the telephone..."someone wants to talk to you"...and it was MICKEY wishing us HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! :yay:

In 2014, we made the trip with DGD's soccer team for the International Youth Soccer Festival. There were 36 of us and upon arrival some of our Magic Bands weren't functioning properly. For a number of us, we couldn't even get in our rooms. A young man behind the concierge desk worked almost an hour getting our MB's fixed! In 2008, we were scheduled to fly out of Houston 1 1/2 hours before the airport was going to be shut down for the arrival of Hurricane Ike. We frantically changed our flight to early in the morning but had to fly into Tampa instead of Orlando, rent a car and drive to the Polynesian. We arrived for check in around 10:30, having called ahead to change our arrival time from the evening to around noon. We entered the resort, received our leis and were greeted by the manager with the news that they'd managed to get our rooms ready for the early arrival and we could go directly to them to rest. :yay: Working on only 3 hours sleep the previous night (again FRANTICALLY finishing our packing, driving to Houston for a short stay at an airport hotel and arriving at the airport at 4:30 AM!) we were THRILLED to be able to "crash" in our rooms for a nap! :lovestruc

Only in Disney. :)

I'll share one. My husband and I went to Disney for our honeymoon. We were celebrating 7 months late due to my work schedule, but we got there eventually. We had "Just Married" pins on and wore our Mickey groom and Minnie bride ears (which, honestly, I'm very surprised my husband did that. He's not one to stick out in a crowd). We had dinner at Sci-Fi and they brought us out some complimentary champagne, which was super sweet. The only problem is that my husband and I don't drink. I tried to pour some into my water glass to make it look like I drank some, but I made a mess... The waiter came back and asked if we were enjoying our champagne and we were like, "Well...." The waiter seemed kind of sad, but still, it was very sweet of them.

This is one of my very favorite memories. My youngest was 18 mo. old the first time we took him to WDW. He was scared of all the characters, so we were never able to get any pictures of him with them.

On our last day, we had breakfast at 'Ohana. My husband was standing up holding him as Mickey approached, and my son began to cry. Mickey stepped back and tried interacting with him from afar. As my son began to calm down, Mickey began moving closer and closer until finally the baby began to laugh and smile with him. Lo and behold, we finally got our picture with Mickey and our son was okay with the other characters during the rest of the meal.

It brings tears to my eyes as I type this...I really appreciate the extra time and effort that this cast person put into putting my baby at ease.

Awesome story! I've been told Mickey whispered something in my ear when I was two and I never cried for a character again. It only takes that one interaction to change everything.
