Hmmm. Touchy subject, eh?

Well since I really don't want to get into the sterilization of humans, I'll just talk about overpopulation.


There are some places where limiting a couple to have only one or two children is necessary. China for example. I don't approve what they do to the other children that exceed the only child, but I know the Chinese government is trying to enforce the problems of over population. Problem is, China really is overpopulated.

In India, for example, women try to have as many kids as possible in order to help out. It makes sense, only the families really cherish baby boys. Sometimes if a woman finds out she is having a girl, it can lead to forced (and unsafe) abortions, which is no more right than what they do to the "extra" babies in China.

Sometimes it's an economic problem. I know for a fact in Ukraine most families only have one child due to the economy.


The US doesn't have to deal with any of these factors. So what keeps American families from having too many kids? Nothing. Until the US becomes just as overpopulated as China (and maybe even then) American families will be allowed to have children at their own free will.

That is a false statement, I happen to be 1 of 3 children in my house, and I'm sure my parents care about all of us exactly the same. Whether soemone has 2 kids or 12 kids, they will still have enough love for ALL of them.

And I happen to be the type of girl who someday wants a big family, and I'm pretty sure I will love ALL of them unconditionally, and care about ALL of them too.

Hitler also experimented on sterilization techniques and forced sterilization on people in the concentration camps, some of whom survived.

The United States had a eugenics movement in the late 19th and early 20th centuries where they forced people to be sterilized or as you call it "neutered" because they wanted the perfect American race and the perfect future generations in every child born.

ETA: When humans are sterilized they can still have sex....and not all human sterilizations are 100% foolproof.

I really don't care about perfect races. That's stupid, what I care about is the enviroment and animlas that are helpless... They can't handle living in cramped spaces. They need certain amounts of territory, fresh water, prey, etc. They can't have such things if their habitat is overrun with human houses.

I think people should be allowed to have as many children as they can care for.

Sure, they can care for them now, but soon there might not be enough food for future generations.

A lot of my friends are from four and five children families. They need that many children to help them run the farm, and stuff like that. If they can care for them and support them, they can have twenty for all I care.

The thing is, the enviroment can't support this crazy amount of humans.

Again i'll say this my parents had three children and they care about us. And you may not know this but the ozone is actually gotten better in the last 10 years regardless of what people say. I'm deffenitly for the environment but saying parents who have more then 2 kids are careless is totally bonkers. Future generations won't have to walk outside with a gas mask. People will slowly adapt to the conditions like they always have. We already have to take protective matters and people have since time began its a fact of life that you have to protect yourself from environmental hazards

Nopers, the ozone has gotten worse. Much worse. And even if people do adapt to such conditions, why should they, just because some people want a ton of children? I think that's bonkers. And even if people can, many other animals can't, and animals most certainly can't survive if they have no habitat.

Edit: Also, even though America has Fewer people then India (I know India has at least double or triple the population of America), our enviromental footprint is the same size (co2 emmissions, waste, etc).

and if you want to be worried about the future generations and animals and all of that, you have bigger things to worry about than if someone has six kids.

Actually, the root of all enviromental problems is overpopulation. And poaching isn't the biggest problem, in fact nowadays it's becoming rarer and rarer, it's habitat destruction. Go to any animal sanctuary and they'll tell you, there's enough tigers/any endangered animal almost in captivity, the real problem is that there are little to none in the wild because there is nowhere for such animals to live. And what CAUSES habitat destruction? Well, people destroy/invade forests/jungles usually for two reasons: Housing or farming. Now why aren't the farms that are already there enough? Because of the population boom, there is a demand for more food, and therefore there needs to be more farms. Same thing goes for houses. I'm sure a smart girl like you can get what I'm saying.

FYI: I have an incurable autoimmune disorder that is genetic and causes illness and if not cared for properly can cause cancer and death, so I am incredibly offended that you feel I should not have children because they may not be healthy so that the animals can live. I am all about the environment and animals but your thought process has gone many steps too far.

I'm so sorry for you. I don't know if what you have is likely to be passed down from mother to child, but if it is, why would you want to risk it? You of all people would know how hard it is to live with such a disorder, and how could you possibly want that for your child? And quite frankly, other animals are more important than a single human's desire to breed like a rabbit. I'm not saying you want to breed like a rabbit, but some people like the Duggar's and people who have a lot of children certainly do.

it also talks about how in 40 years it will have completely stopped and recovery will begin. So the next generations will actually have it better off then us

Now you have crossed a BIG line. You have no right to say who should or should not have children. Setting a limit to the number of children is an invasion of personal privacy that no one, not even the government, should have a say in. If you want a limit on the population, you can move to a country that has guidelines like that, kills or sterilizes people with illnesses, and dictates who does what. And look up the word GENETIC, it means the disease can possibly pass from parent to child. And since other animals are more than important that a single human's desire to have children, why don't you go get spayed? Or are you above what you think every other person should do?

AND you cannot start saying you only meant to limit the number of children people can have because you started this thread specifically talking about sterilizing humans. That is what your intent was and therefore you need to step up and accept what other people are going to say to you. You don't know what you are talking about and should welcome the opportunity to listen to what information other people have to share with you.

Its not much of a population boom here that we need more farms. Its due to other countries industrializing. Thus they need the gases and fuels and stuff. When a country industrializes they start eating more wheat and corns. And there is places for these animals to live that your talking about us destroying. I never said you shouldn't have kids. No need to get angry . And I think that not setting a limit is horrible, because we as humans are destroying this Earth. We shouldn't have to set a limit, people should use their heads for once and decide 'hmm, maybe I don't need 3+ children and a house built out of a forest on 20 acres of land'. But sadly, people are selfish and sometimes limits should be set for the greater good. They most likely never will be, so you don't have to worry. Why would I want to move to such a country, I wouldn't feel content when knowing that everywhere else people were breeding like rabbits and killing the surronding earth? I'm a citizen of the world. Not just any particular country.


I know what genetic means. But I wasn't positive what kind of gene it was. Let's take the white tiger gene, for example. It's a double recessive, meaning both parents must have it, but even still, the offspring only have a chance of having the white fur.

I've said before that I don't want children. Please read the entire, puny 4 paged board before flaming me. I'm not spaying myself because I don't want to have to take hormone supplements so I don't grow a beard. If contraceptives ever fail I'll get an abortion. I'd be a horrible mother, I don't like babies.

This topic reminds me of the Shadow Children series. It was set in the near future. If a family had more than two children, the new child was to be killed. There was a special police, called the Population Police, that would monitor how many people there were in areas and things like that.

I was thinking about that series of books last night.
And I mean, they pretty much would show what life would end up being like.
People'd still have kids, but they'd be hiding their lives. Or they'd constantly be on the run...
You'd be an outlaw simply because of the order you were born in.
It's not a good thing.

Look at the Everglades. It's one of the few places where florida panthers live wild. They used to live all over the southeast, but due to habitat destruction caused by housing and farming, they now only occupy a puny little part of this world. You can't compare the Everglades to the entire southeast. It's not fair for those poor cats.

And sure, farming demand is partly caused by industrialization, and partly by overpopulation. But housing is 100% caused by population. If there's no people to live in certain houses, they won't build them.
