Something special for DH & DS to do in MK?

I am trying to come up with ideas for a special thing my DD & DS(9) can do together in the MK while DD & I go to the BBB (1:00 appointment). I would love for them to do something fun together during this time, but I can't think of anything. I was thinking they could do the Main Street Barber Shop, but the lines can be unpredictible.

Any suggestions for a father/son treat besides just sending them out to grab FastPasses & get on some rides? (We'll be there in October).

Thanks!

We did not do this but how about them hopping over to the Contemporary and go parasailing or ride the searacers. I dont think you need to be a resort guest but you proabbaly need to schedule it.

My DH and ds did exactly that the last time we were there. It was 20 dollars for a half hour and they had an absolute blast. You pick them up from the contemporary docks

There is also an arcade in Tomorrowland -- don't know a guy who doesn't love an arcade! If crowds are light, they can conquer the mountains - splash, space and thunder. Or maybe DS would like to try the Dude Do at BBB? Go ride up front on the monorail?

If you like the CR thing with the sea racers there is also an arcade on the Concourse and of course that is also where you can do a monorail ride. That should keep them busy:lmao:

Thanks for all of the ideas. I never thought of the Searacers! I'll have to throw that by DH & see if they would want to do that.

The arcade idea is great, too. DS is always wanting to do them, but we always say no for various reasons. This would be his chance to spend as much time there as he wants!

I was thinking about getting on the mountain rides, but I'm thinking that time will be an issue. It is also our MNSSHP day, we're sleeping in and not getting to the park until 12:30. They could collect a FastPass for DS's favorite ride and see what happens.

Thanks again!

Great minds must think alike because I was going to suggest the searacers as well!!! :thumbsup2

Isn't there some kind of coupon for them in the MYW package this year?

Yes, I think that there is. I think you get a half hour free with an hour rental.

If they choose to do this, is there somewhere for them to shower/change back into street clothes at CR without them having to go back to POFQ?

Also, DS is 9 - does anyone know if is there an age limit for operating one solo, or will he have to double with DH (which I'm sure he wouldn't mind at all!).

We've always done it in our street clothes. The only way you get wet is from a little bit of spray that comes off the boat. Your son is not old enough to get his own boat, but might be able to help dad steer. ;)

Just thought of this as well, you said he likes arcades well how about Disney Quest then the whole family is in the DTD area so you can meet uop after BBB.

Depending on what package you have with disney i think they both would LOVE Disney Quest. Im a 15 year old girl and i loved it also!! but i dont know if you have to pay extra for that. i just know we did it last summer.

The little boats are WONDERFUL! The lake in back of the CR is wide open and a lot of fun to race around (and cross over the wake from the bigger boats that go to FW and WL), and it also great to be able to 'drive by' the MK. And it's up to you to decide whether to return in 1/2 hour or keep the boat out longer. If they like boats in general, they can also take the MK boat over to WL and rent from there and check out WL and the arcade there.

It sounds like the OP might be scheduled to do the BBB at the new Castle location in MK (opening in Sept), so I'm thinking they're aiming for something close to the Magic Kingdom. Maybe a one on one lunch with Dad in addition to the arcade in Tomorrowland? Or they could explore Tom Sawyer's Island and try to find a hidden paint brush.

If you're looking at something to do in the park, why not have them head over to Tom Sawyer's Island. If you're alright with you and your daughter not seeing TSI, it's a cheap alternative that I'm sure your son would love.

Does anyone know where I can find more info on prices/renting the searacers? $20 for a half hour seems really cheep. On wdwinfo.com they talk abour Personal Watercraft/wave runners that hold up to 3 people for $75 per half hour, so I don't think this is the same thing. And I don't see anything about "searacers". We are staying at Beach Club this October, does the Yacht Club Marina also have these searacers?

Also, do you need to make reservations ahead of time for the searacers? Our DS is 4 years old, would he be old enough to ride with DH?

I know it might be a trip out but when we went me and dd spent the day together doing girly things and my other half and DS road out to Kennedy...they loved it...it really wasnt my cup of tea as such.

I'm hoping that we can get to Tom Sawyer's Island our first day there, but if we can't, it would also be a great idea -- especially since the TSI (before it's pirate rehab) at Disneyland was missing all of the fun stuff. The fort was closed, the merry-go-round rock was removed... but we always spent at least 1 hour there at DL. DD & I could always meet them there after our appt.

I've been working with a TA from DreamsUnlimited - I'll ask her about the sea racers and then let everyone else know what she says...

P.S. to my previous message: On the WDW website I saw that the correct spelling is "Sea Raycer", but other than saying they're available for rent at certain WDW resorts, there's no other info on prices, etc., and neither does wdwinfo.com.

I did a search on the DIS. Other recent posts on this topic said they cost about $30 half hour. And if you are doing the "Magic Your Way" ticketx, there's this, which is on the WDW website:

"Sea Raycers by Sea Rays
Get a certificate valid for 90 minutes of watercraft fun when you buy 60 minutes (one certificate per person, not valid all dates, restrictions apply)."

A kind DISser posted a photo on this thread: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1343888&referrerid=&highlight=sea+raycer (post #7), and the January 2007 prices were (if I read them correctly): $23.47 for 30 minutes, $32.86 for 45 min & $37.55 for 60 minutes, up to two people per boat. Someone else on the same thread said they received a 10% discount with the Disney Visa.
