For those visiting Orlando in December, as well as Grinchmas at IOA you can now enjoy the new Macy's Parade at Universal which will run from Dec 13 until Jan 5.

Sorry I don't know how to post a link (I know, I know, it's pathetic!), but there is are a couple of threads on the DIS Universal Boards, one which has a link to the Orlando Sentinal info on the parade. If someone can post a link to this I would be grateful! And if there's a clever person out there who knows where there might be some photos of the Macy's parade of past years it would be great to see them!

So even more to pack into our itineraries! Have Fun! :D

Hi Mazzy - unfortunately the Orlando Sentinel remove their articles daily and the link in the thread doesn't work.

I'll still post links but unfortunately we don't have the details that were in the Sentinel article.

Thanks for doing the links to the posts, Shirley :D

I had printed the Orlando Sentinal page out, so here goes, I will type it out, excuse any errors won't you? ;)

MACY'S PARADE MOVES SOUTH

The Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade is coming to Universal Studios.

Well, a lot of it anyway, and it won't start until Dec 13 - continuing nightly through Jan 5.

The huge New York retailer and Universal have agreed to a version of the 76 year old parade, featuring 16 floats and the signature balloons that have already appeared in the original on Thanksgiving.

In Orlando, the parade will be presented in the evenings on Hollywood Boulevard, the main drag of Universal Studios, ending with the lighting of a huge Christmas tree in front of the Macy's facade in the faux downtown New York area of the theme park.

This is the first time the Macy's parade wil be repeated, said Susam Lomas, a Universal spokeswoman.

The entertainment is a promotional joint venture between Universal and Macy's, which is scheduled to open it's first store in Orlando at the Mall of Milenia in October.

This brand new holiday offering will allow parade fans, who have previously only enjoyed the Macy's parade on TV, to experience elements of it live and in person, said Bob Gault, Universal Orlando president and chief operating officer.

Universal is thrilled to partner with Macy's for this historic event.

Robin Hall, producter/direcotor of Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade said, Universal Studios Florida and Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade are two American icons synonymous with making amazing things happen. Our creative collaboration here will now set the stage for a whole new holiday tradition in family entertainment.

Lomax said that guests will be able to volunteer as balloon handlers - holding tethers to the giant figures and guiding them along the parade route.

Phew!! Hope this is of interest to someone! :D

Well it sounds exciting Mazzy :) !! I'm sure it will add a great deal to the atmosphere in Universal..... thank you very much for taking the trouble to type the article out.

The only problem is that I'd planned Universal for earlier in my holiday. Oh well lets start moving days around again!
