I currently have a Christmas wreath hanging on my front door. Three different evenings, I've opened my front door to go get the mail. Something is flying out of my wreath and hits me in the head. It flys away so fast, I can't tell what it is. It might be a bird, but why in my wreath? The only other thing I can think is that it is a bat. Yuck! I guess I'm going to have to start pounding on the door before I open it.

Sorry. It just freaked me out!

OMG I bet it is a BAT :earseek: I am SO scared of them. We had them in our old house 3 times when I was pregnant with ds. Imagine waking up 8 months pregnant to a BAT flying around your head in your bedroom. OMG I would BURY that wreath so far away from my house. ........... :rotfl:

Stop scaring TINK you know how hard it is on her this time of the year. She just needs a little get-away.
Try going out the back and come up on it from the front so you can see it better tomorrow.

This would be one of my worst nightmares. :earseek: I'm not too fond of birds, and bats scare the heck out of me. Just the thoughts of this happening gives me a creepy feeling. The first time something flew out of that wreath and hit my head would have been the LAST time for me to use that door again, at least until the wreath was gone. AHHHHHHHHHHHH!

We constantly get wasps in all our door wreaths. We keep wreaths on 3 of the doors to the outside year round and have to be diligent about spraying them and removing nests. They also get up inside a brass bell we have at the side entrance. As far as it being a bird, that's certainly possible. Each year we have birds that build nests right up in one of our hanging plants on the porch. Thing is, there's so much activity with people coming and going there that we were quite surprised.

Of course, it touched my hair. Which I have since touched. I hope it didn't slober on me or anything.

Here you go.. I got him for ya ;)

OMG!! I knew I shouldn't have looked!! If THAT is what is in the wreath, I think I'd move to a hotel until it was gone!!

When I lived in Missouri, I was replacing the cover on my dryer vent. When I took the old broken one off, a bat flew out at me. They get in the strangest places.

I'm really going to hope it is a bird. It isn't there during the day. If it were a bat, you'd think it would be nesting in the day. A bird would find a place at night. Let's hope my logic pans out. If not, I'll be worrying for weeks about rabies!

I really want to know what it is. When you find out, let us know. Now go wash your hair! :)

I will let you know. Oh, I just got out of the shower!

About a month ago I came into the kitchen with 2 y.o. DD one morning to find a bird flying around! Scared me a bit because he was flying from one place to another so quickly trying to get out. But it was also so funny because I was afraid he would fly into DD so I had to figure out how to get him out. I went and got a hat to put on, walked around squatting so he wouldn't fly into my head, and covered all the windows with the drapes except for the sliding glass door which I opened wide. He flew right out. I'll never know how the heck he got in the house.

It might be a bird that is nesting in your wreath. My sister has a family of birds that has lived in the tiny space under her window air conditioner for several years. I 2nd the idea of going out another door and taking a peek.

:rotfl: :rotfl: EEK! I hope its not a bat....yuck! :earseek: :earseek:

oh don't worry he won't hurt ya

I like bats

I am putting bat houses at the new house
they eat mosquitos
and I HATE mosquitos - cuz they will hurt ya!

My brother lives in FL and every year they have a Wren that nests in thier wreath. Its like a tradition for them. They keep one up year-round, changing its decor with the season.

THat lil batty guy is a cute one! I think you should open the door VERY Slowly and peer out . Then you can see what it is. If it's a bird no worries if it's a bat, we'll you'll scream, I guess. *grin*

I was going to say it was a wren too. Bats don't scare away to easily. They will sit if they feel danger.

Just be careful if it is a bat, we have that girl from WI that survived rabies after she picked a bat up in church and carried it outside.

It's probably a bird. My parents always have a bird in their wreath and if flies out at me everytime I go to the door.

Today, there is nothing in the wreath. That makes me think it is a bird. A bat wouldn't be flying around during the day. I have a little window in my door. I think I should be able to see what it is if it is there tonight. I'll let you all know!
