Something I have always wondered about pin codes

On various threads I have read where some people calling WDW reservations asking if they had a pin code in their name and sometimes that turned out to be true. Anyway I was wondering if you called WDW reservations but to make a brand new reservation and told the Cast Member your name, wouldn't they see right away that you had a pin code? So does it actually make sense to call and ask if we have a pin code beside our name? For example when we made our August 2011 reservation once my Dad said his name wouldn't the Cast Member then see we have a pin code or not once he put it in the computer?

Perhaps, but we don't know how the computer operates. The PIN may not show up on the initial screen; the CM may have to delve further to see if there is a PIN, and perhaps one might not look unless asked.

Also, it's possible that at the time of the reservation there was no PIN, but perhaps later a PIN came out and attached to the individual's name.

I am pretty sure that you have to specifically ask if you have a pin code. I book through a travel agent now, but for one of our past trips that I booked directly through Disney, they did not quote me a rate automatically with the pin code. When I thought of asking them after they quoted me the rate if I did have a pin code, she looked and then said yes, then proceeded to give me the rate with the pin code discount.

So, I would always ask and not just presume that they would offer that upfront, I am not sure though if that is their policy, or if some agents are more helpful than others? :confused3

It shows on a booking screen, not when you're first pulled up. To call just to see if there is a pin is just a waste of a phone call, unless you're calling to book. I suggest checking out the special offers, plan your booking, call to book, count on a pin as extra pixie dust if there is one. If you book online, and then call to mod, they won't be able to see the pin either.

I have been debateing about calling to see if I might have the % off pin some have reported getting. You say it is a waste of a phone call?I had orginally booked online then called to modify my reservation to take advantage of free dining, we changed dates and our room catogory to a cheaper room to save even more money, but I would really love a room discount like we rec'd last year thru a pin# which would allow us to book our original room choice since it would save us more money than the free dining.

I never asked when I called to modify the reservation thinking the CM would see and tell me if I had any pins attached to my name

This is all so very frustrating

I would call to check. I see nothing wrong with doing that. You may find you have one. Better to ask and not get than to always wonder. JMO
