Something I find funny....

are all the posts and threads about the political canidates and thier spouses abililty to be good parents. Each side is voting that their canidate is the better parent because...... (Insert reasoning here).

If these people (regardless of gender or political party) were really such wonderful, awesome parents then why are they and thier spouses choosing to give up months to years of their lives? (Yes, I get that it is in service to thier country.)

A candiacy for president/vice president is incredabily draining on the candiate and thier spouse let alone thier children.

Once they win.... well there goes any sense of normalacy for the children. Living in the white house or the VPs house it not a normal upbringing in any sense of the word.

The world of Politics is an entire world in itself. The canidate and thier spouse have a say so but, the kids really have no choice but to go with the flow.

There is no doubt in my mind that the abuse to which we Americans (through our media) subject our candidates for national office and our elected officials ensures the only people who run are those too power-hungry to serve the interests of the public. Our elections cannot help ever being anything other than a selection of the lesser of evils.

I get a kick out of my 85 year old Republican mother (who spends every waking hour watching Fox News ) and her support of Palin, whose life WAS everything my mother was against...a working mom with a young child, pregnant unmarried daughter, etc. Every time I see mom and we discuss "politics", she comments "Have you seen the daughter's boyfriend? He's so good-looking!" If Palin was a Democrat, she'd have a whole other spin on it...how wrong and unacceptable it all is. I let her off the hook because she's 85 and in assisted living. I just *sigh* and .

I wouldn't want to be a politician or politician's spouse for anything, much less expose my kids to it.

What about men and women who fast track in the business world? Their families have to put up with a lot too. Should all political candidates and ambitious business people be single? What about dedicated teachers, should they be single as well? What about farmer's families? My husband is a farmer. He leaves at 4:30 am and during his busy season, he comes home at 6:30pm, showers, eats and goes to bed. Maybe he should never have married?
Anyone dedicated to their work will work hard. Aiming this at politicians is ridiculous.

Why? There are so many threads judging these canidates on their parenting styles. I have not seen any threads about the parenting styles of the other sources of employement you mentioned.

I am merely reacting to the various threads claiming that thier canidate is the better parent. If you think that this is ridiculous then you do not need to post!

I agree with that!! As a single mother myself it is difficult to read all the negative posts about mothers working or how soon they went back to work.

The quantum difference is that:

1) In both cases, time and energy are exerted towards achievement. Working hard is generally considered a good thing.

2) In the case of politics, the politician and the politician's family are subjected to invasive scrutiny and are routinely made the target of public spectacle. This is a bad thing.

Should it be that way? No.

However, it is that way. Denying reality doesn't make the reality any different than it is.

How can "good parenting" accomplish for children what people cannot even accomplish for themselves??? Short of locking the children in the dungeon, there is no way to shield them from the damage that being a child of a political candidate will inflict on them.

I'm not going to argue with you because it's pointless. I've seen too many posts where an argument breaks out, people agree with you and you still argue with them. So, the fact that I don't agree with you means this could go on for days and frankly, I have better things to do.
