That's not a minnie-van, its a goofy-van. In more ways than one. IS that really what took the place of the billboard? :badpc:

Yep, aside from an awkward angle that is what the new sign looks like.....

so everyone seams to be right about a sign about a sign

We were just at WDW about two weeks ago and we drove past that sign for a sign twice. I was hoping for something more than a sign that advertises DVC membership though. I guess Disney REALLY needs to sell points for all the new SSR homes.

What I would really love would be villas at AK. :woohoo:

Well, to DVC's defense, we were the one's to assume it meant something huge, like a new property. The sign is clever and I think something like this would be built regardless of whether or not sales at SSR are good. I thought I read that surveys have said that most guests have no idea what DVC is all about, right?

Oh well, a new DVC resort will come soon enough. That's for sure :thumbsup2

Over on the DVC boards, there are a lot of people disappointed that the billboard didn't annnounce a new DVC resort when it was "unwrapped."

Somehow, there was a high expectation that the billboard would be an announcement of a new DVC resort. Here's something that I posted on the DVC Planning Board while people were speculating about what would be on the billboard:

Let's assume that rumors of a DVC resort at the Contemporary are correct. In that case, planning has been proceeding without any official announcement (but with plenty of leaks). At some point, DVD will make an official announcement, probably when they start to file timeshare registrations in states throughout the U.S. or else when actual demolition and contruction gets underway. At that point, it can no longer be kept a secret, so DVD will issue a press release. The news will appear in real estate publications, Orlando area publications, a few publications elsewhere, and on websites such as this one. The rest of the world will take no notice.

For close to two years after any official announcement, folks on this board will bemoan the fact that there's little if any additional official news about the resort.

There's no reason for billboards or magazine ads or flyers in WDW resort rooms or a fancy website until points actually go on sale. It will likely be 2008 at the earliest before the Contemporary Villas would be available for occupancy. Points will go on sale and will be marketed when Disney Vacation Development determines that the timing is right. The status of Saratoga Springs will be one factor, and compliance with legal regulations will be another. My guess is that points for the Contemporary Villas won't be sold until late 2007 at the earliest.

And, at this time, the Contemporary Villas resort is still just an oft-repeated rumor that may or may not become a reality.

I like the Minnie" or "Goofy" van, it just looks like another way of Disney getting your attention....and it did!!! lol

I got a call from a DVC salesman on Friday, which brought a little sun into my windburnt and frostbitten northern Pennsylvanian life, but my interest was peaked when he said that something BIG is coming up with DVC in November, but (of course) he could not tell me.

November Huh? We've been hearing about something BIG for a long time. I thought they would announce something sooner. It could be CR ...or DL ...or maybe even Hawaii!

Except to drum up excitement and create that oh-so-valuable yet oh-so-elusive BUZZ! Once points go on sale it's a bit late, marketing-wise....

Ford doesn't advertise 2008 model year cars on billboards. Dell doesn't advertise computers that won't be available until 2008. American Airlines doesn't advertise destinations that they won't fly to until 2008.

Disney wants people to be aware of DVC and to buy DVC now. That's what the "Vacation Ownership with True Character" sign is for.

Disney will probably announce a new DVC resort before 2006 is over. The announcement will be a press release, not a billboard, describing plans for a new resort around 2008.

DVC seems to selling fast and we get reminder at least three time a year to add on. I'd like know what they have left at Saratoga Springs it must be selling fast for them to expand again.

Hummmm.... this is interesting. Your putting AKL before CR! I would love to see all three. I think they will make great additions to DVC.

DVC points increase April 1 to $101 for SSR and $95 for add-on points at sold out resorts. The creates demand for resale purchases before a big announcement. November, eh?

Lou Mongello reported in his podcast that he is pretty certain its the Contemporary. Perhaps he'll see this post and comment.

I'd think its a balancing act. Like with new attractions, you don't want to announce too early because it might cause people to postpone current purchases to wait for what's coming next. On the other hand, you also want some advance notice so those who the new offering attracts are ready to plop down their cash.

But wouldn't DVD's past practices be a pretty good indicator? I don't remember, how far in advance was Saratoga Springs officially announced? I *think* they at least waited until the sales for whatever else was still selling (BCV? BWV?) were winding down.

If AKL comes up on DVC, I will seriously consider selling my organs on the internet if that's what it takes to drum up the money!
