I found out today that a former co-worker/friend had a heart attack last week. I would really like to send her something since she is coming home tomorrow. I know I can send flowers but I kinda wanted to do something different for her. Any suggestions?

If you are known to be silly (or she/he is), you could send a huge balloon assortment with the phrases "It's a boy", "It's a girl", "Happy Birthday", "Merry Christmas", "Over the Hill", etc.

I had a friend that did this for her niece when she was in the hospital. The little girl thought of everything else for a small while.

Like I said it's silly fun.

Best basket i ever got was called edible arrangements, its a baskets of fresh fruit that looks like a floral arrangement.

Maybe one of those bath kits that come with bubble bath, lotion, etc. that would be soothing and relaxing.

books, magazines, puzzles-something to keep them occupied if they are going to spend time recovering at home.

Another idea for when they are recovering at home would be a gift card to the video store.

Also, I don't know if your friend has a family, but I think one of the most helpful gifts is a casserole dish for dinner one night.

Hope she has a speedy recovery! :wizard:

How about book on tape (or cd's or whatever)?

Do you know if she is into crafts. A small hook rug is easy, needlework, paint by numbers. Maybe she doesn't do any of those things but it may create a new hobby for her & give her something easy to do while she recups.

What first came to mind was Allison's suggestion, magazines, puzzles. Maybe she likes Sudoku? There's lots of those puzzle books out there now. Or a jigsaw puzzle.

I'm such a nurse. I send a copy of the Cleveland Clinic's heart book, a good-for-your-heart cookbook, and some balloons.
