While im not a HUGE fan of Obamas, it is cool that from this day forward, any kids born during his term and after, will never have to understand why its a big deal that a Black man is President, that will be the norm for them. And maybe we can have the first Generation of truly open minded kids. Maybe next a Woman President, and who knows maybe one day a Gay President. Maybe even a Gay Black Woman President ! thats when we will truly know we are open minded.

Amen to that.

Or a gay black woman in a wheelchair.

I'm just sorry it took us so long.

Doubtful that will ever happen. There are just too many families these days teaching their kids the good old fashioned lessons of close mindedness and intolerance. We can hope for the best though!

I know. Today my 7 YO DGD watched the Inauguration in school and had no idea that one more bridge has been crossed. I hope that she can see a woman elected and think no further that her politics. And I hope it happens before she knows that too is a big deal.

This is the first election that my girls will remember. They saw a woman run for president, a black man run for President (and win), and a woman as a VP candidate. As far as they are concerned anybody can be Pres. Very Cool!!

I love that! It reminds me of a story they told on the news this afternoon, about when Jackie O. went to visit an elementary school class with only one black student. She leaned down and addressed him by name, asking how his day was. The boy ran home at the end of the day to tell his mom that the First Lady said hello to him by name, and when his mother asked him how she knew who he was, he said he was the only one wearing a blue shirt :goodvibes I thought that was the cutest thing! Kids don't think in color, and this and future generations of kids will grow into adults who don't think of terms of color, either. It's pretty amazing :grouphug:

your probably right. its crazy that there are parents who actively teach their kids that one race is better than another race. or those crazy loons in the westboro baptist church, once we get rid of people like THEN we will truly be a better country.

I agree OP!! That is a great point to make! I do believe that the next generation will be more open minded.

Exactly....unless they are taught too. And that's a sad thought.

That's true. There's always crazy people who teach their kids ignorance and intolerance, but hopefully they'll soon be in the minority.

Kids don't think in color
:thumbsup2

It always makes me smile when I walk DS into school and one of the African-American or Hispanic kids at his school grabs his hand and says "C'mon let's go!" and he thinks nothing of it.

Kids don't always mimic the parents. Sometimes, peer relationships, especially during young adulthood (college) have a great impact. I went to a KKK meeting when I was three (don't remember it) by a "family friend", signed a contract promising to never marry a black man when I was seven, and still grew up open-minded enough to marry a black man. Things happen. I don't like that children are being taught hate and ignorance, but some can break the cycle...
