To clarify my pissy post from last night, Family Fun Night at McDonalds is an event coordinated between our local McDs and the school. It is a FUND RAISER, in that a portion of the money taken in at the restaurant will be donated to the school. The pajama party theme and the serving hot cakes were special, just for the event. They have incentives for the kids. For example, by signing in, they get a coupon for a free ice cream or cookies. They also list their teacher when they sign in and the class with the most kids attending gets an ice cream party at school. That kinda stuff.

The McDonalds was SWAMPED. I mean wall to wall kids and parents. All of we grownups were looking at each other like, "Why? I mean WHY are we here?" We had to wait for our food... wait for a table... rush through our meal so that those wandering with trays could get a table. Ick.

The boys, of course, had fun. Joshua saw 2 of his classmates and thought that was the best thing ever. He's so funny about it. He'll get all excited and shout, "There's Maggie!"... but then when Maggie turns around and says, "Hi, Joshua!" he just ducks his head and grins like an idiot. It's so cute. He does that whenever he sees anyone he knows. He's all shy at first.

The biggest problem was that we got terrible thunderstorms yesterday afternoon with huge downpours. That meant that the playground at McDonalds, which is one of the old OUTSIDE kind, was soaking wet. Where the parents would have normally been able to let the kids play together and burn off all that excitement, we were instead trapped with them fidgeting at the tables and rushing through our meal.

It didn't help that Joshua came home with a SPRING FUNDRAISER PACKAGE in his backpack yesterday. Since when do we have TWO fundraisers in a school year? This is a primary school. Kindergarten, First, and Second Grades. That's it. They bought new playground equipment with the fall fundraiser money. The library is full. The nurse on staff is stocked to the gills. We donate all the crap that the teachers need for the classrooms. We pay for field trips and such. What else is there?

I would so much rather donate a flat dollar amount that this stupid fundraiser crap.

i see.
i thought they spread/spilled syrup all over their pj's last night.

fund raisers........

try having 4 in skool and the necessity to buy from all of them. our skool had a policy that no student could go blindly knocking on doors to sell.
since we have no relatives that supported the boys and skool functions, i got stuck a lot...

Penny - Congrats on your Golden Homie! And I'm so sorry to hear about the toe surgery. You have had more than your share of foot problems. I hope this takes care of everything for you.

Janet - The Peeps worship thing? Yeah. Weird. There is an "artist" who does nothing but huge wall hangings of Peeps glued to canvas.

And, who asked? Barb, I think? I turned the scorched peep goo problem over to Brad. He spent quite some time picking what he could out by hand... then he scrubbed it with some carpet cleaner... one of those Oxy kind. Seems like most of it came out.

See, that's the biggest part of it. I would have to turn to family and friends... who might very well feel guilty and trapped enough to buy stuff... and I am NOT willing to do that. I'd rather say, "Can you all donate a couple of bucks?" instead of "Would you like to buy this useless and overpriced junk?"

I just buy a Dollar Store type prize for Joshua and give it to him on the day that the other kids get their fundraiser prize. He's happy. I'm happy.

This fundraiser is for the pizza and cookie dough. I'm sure we will get something, but I'm not hitting anyone else up.

Right back atchya - well, its almost afternoon, but I won't tell if you don't

The same way the CPA ends up with a child that can't do math.

God's way of making the world go round.;)

:lmao: :lmao: That is one of the best lines of the week :cool1: :thumbsup2

Pat, I'd like to buy a vowel.

you want to try and solve the puzzle? Because I haven't a clue :confused3

Morning peoples...just stopping by at work. Be back later. :thumbsup2

Morning Todd - have a great day at work.

MORNIN' ALL!!!

On my way to work....have a good 'humpin' y'all'

Go a humpin yerself :cool1: :thumbsup2 :lmao:

And, hey, remember about 8 years ago I mentioned we were mattress shopping? We are making more headway this afternoon. We are still looking at Tempur Pedics. Think we're interested in the BellaSonna. Anyone have any experience with that? http://www.tempurpedic.com/sleep_systems/the_bellasonna_bed_by_tempur_pedic/overview/

I hear Martha Stewart has one....

I am going to try to take a nap so that I'm ready to go bed shopping when Mike comes home from work.

Smell ya later.

Hey Jodie - Good luck with the mattress shopping thing - we have had our current one for about 6 years - its about time to get a new one too. But those king sized ones are so expensive - I'd rather go on vacation :woohoo:

what a comeback.
that is a hoot.

MORNING Lawrence

See, that's the biggest part of it. I would have to turn to family and friends... who might very well feel guilty and trapped enough to buy stuff... and I am NOT willing to do that. I despise the fundraisers.......I avoid them at all costs, because between school and the sports fundraisers, how many times can you hit up the same people??

Glad to hear the peep situation is under control :yay:

The pictures were adorable - but I could only imagine the headache:headache: of being in there.

And I agree that the TAG FAIRY is missing ALOT of golden stuff here

Penny -

Congrats on receiving the golden homie award!!! You deserve it :thumbsup2

Also I am so sorry to hear about the surgery you are going to need on your toe....I remember when you broke it and how much you suffered. Sorry to hear it will be awhile longer before you get relief.

They are Finally here

Ok so I know someone is shopping for a Mattress and well ... I LOVE  My sleepnumber bed. Though it is BIG bucks I really am sleeping :cloud9: well on it.

RVGAl You think Two fundraisers is a lot you should see our list.

Holiday Fair , Candy sale , Book Fair ,plant sale and lets not forget the auction night and bowling night for the adults . AHHH :scared1: they always want more money in our schools . Here is the kicker though the schools are not calling me to work:teacher: because they have no money to pay me but our mayor (who gives me a :headache: ) just cut our funding and is going to cut more funding to the schools. It always seems to be hurting the childern but he is only in for one more year :woohoo: .

Someone asked about our Bowling team . In HS here we have lots of school sponsered teams and yes bowling is one of them .:thumbsup2

I am so bad with names so forgive me if I am messing them up . I am lucky to remember my own sometimes :rotfl2: .

Lori .... TEXTING IS EVIL I can't stand it . I think it is the worst thing my DH has even let my kids get. It makes them such bad spellers. Not only that , has your school given up on spelling words ? Some of our teachers are not giving weekly spelling test anymore . WHY?? :confused3 I just don't understand education anymore .

Ok off to the store DD12 needs some art stuff to make a Cell for Science and mommy needs some picture frames to hang more photos . So i hope to see everyone tonight . We have reglious ed tonight and it is Parents night for the next two weeks . We shall see what this is all about :confused3 .

Later guys

Thank you! Honestly, I really never expected for 40 to be any big deal. . it really snuck up on me. . .I'm not the type who stresses about age. . .it's just another number and I feel forever young (I have to. . since my maturity level is that of a 4th grader):rotfl:

Maybe, that's why it's not bothering me. Lately, I feel forever old already.

We are spending a TON of money on healthy food. It's really, really expensive to eat this way. . .I never knew. Our grocery bill has doubled :scared1: I always thought junk food was expensive, but it's cheap compared to fresh and healthy food. Plus, we have to go to the store more often now. It is what it is. . . .

Doesn't that stink! The more healthy you try to eat, the more expensive it is. :sad2:

I wouldn't recommend that you encourage a 7th grader to use the fractions button. Fractions are really important as they are the stepping stones to lots of algebraic skills. If he doesn't master them now, it will just make things harder for him later. I tutor so many kids who are really bad in fractions. It just takes lots and lots of practice. It will pay off a lot, later.

My DS had to have a SC in 7th grade. He was taking Algebra by then. Maybe, that's why. :confused3

todd, sleep all you can now and rest up for october.
i don't expect you to cash it in at 10 on the nights we will be at HHN....

Sounds like there's going to be some serious partying going on at UO in Oct. :dance3:

don't worry, 40 will be fun for you.

40 is the new 25

I wish! At 25 my DS was a yr. old & I was a couple years pre-arthritis. That, I'd love to go back to! ::yes::

That sweetheart has chewed up two sets of shoelaces, 27 markers, 39 pencils, chewed on my couch, ate a rabbit turd and crapped on my floor!

:scared1:

Funny you should say that. . . no more than an hour ago dh and I were just talking about the very same thing. We watched a little bit of that movie where MJ played bb with the loony tunes characters. . I can't think of the name. At the end, there is a moment of MJ playing after his return and the movie ends with MJ, in the air, tongue hanging out and SLAMMING IT!

P.S. You know his son is currently playing college ball in Illinois. . . poor kid. . .

The movie was Space Jam. It was a fun movie. Than again, I'd watch grass grow with MJ, if he played bball a couple minutes every hour or so. ;) My most depressing, non family or health related, moments in my life were when the Heels lost in the NCAA tourney MJ's jr. year, & when he retired the 1st, 2nd & 3rd times. They were very depressing times indeed. The game has never been the same for me. :sad1:

Like MJ & his big brother, I've always felt sorry for his oldest son. They both played, but the younger one was always more talented. Although, MJ wasn't always more talented than his big bro.

I bet you're wishing you never mentioned Da Bulls right about now. You don't want to get me started talking about MJ. :rotfl2:

made me think of the line in Forrest Gump where the drill sergeant says to Gump: "Gump! What's your sole purpose in this army?"
Forrest Gump: "To do whatever you tell me, drill sergeant!" :lmao: :lmao:

I've spent my entire married life teaching my DH to reply the same way[SIZE]. :rotfl:

I'm the 4th Blue Man. DON'T TELL ANYONE!!!!!!

Your secret's safe with me. ;)

I did find that interesting...thanks for posting that. Makes ya wonder because 'all of a sudden' a LOT of kids are being diagnosed autistic....I don't remember ANY autistic kids when I was little? :confused3

My DH & I have talked about the same thing. I didn't know anyone who was autistic, when I was growing up either. The same goes for food allergies. Something strange is definitely going on. :confused3

Oops. So he's a BAD sweatheart. Our dogs always taught our kids how to keep stuff off the floor (or keep their doors closed).

Maybe, we should get another dog. My DH & DS need to learn to pick things up off the floor, clothes for example.

Smart DH...taking responsibility for educating son .... :thumbsup2

He's been there & done that with his dad, & wishes noone ever had to go through it again.

Here's something about nothing. . .

This afternoon at work - I work in an annex building so we go out our door, down the stairs, 4 steps down a walkway/alley between my building and the "main" office and in the back door. So, I was taking mail over to the next building and it was blizzarding (yep, that's a word) and there was already a snow drift outside our door and in front of the back door of the main building. I go in and take care of my mail and the executive secretary stops me in the hall and they are whining about the snow and how everyone is leaving early, blah, blah, blah. So I said, it's really, really bad outside and everyone SHOULD go home. . it's only a couple hours till we close up shop anyway. . .look out here at these drifts. So she comes to the back door with me, and I unlock it and step out to return to my building and she goes "do you guys have a broom over there. . . I will sweep this away", so I quip "no, only the one I rode to work today". . . ok, the look on her face was PRICE LESS!

When I return to my office my phone is ringing. . .yep, it's HER. . . she's :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: and is sooo proud of herself cuz she "got it". Uuummm, yeah, she needs to retire. . . I'm tired of doing her work and you cain't fix stupid!

:rotfl2:

My mom actually saw the tests....and she was blown away by the ridiculous spelling by these kids :sad2:

I tell ya, cell phone and texting is making us American unedumacated...:dance3:

How old are these kids. Some people never learn to spell, but to have that many who can't isn't good at all.

you only mentioned the word seagulls.
that made me think of amityville at first.

all blondes get those ideas darkie......
if we all put our heads together, we'll find out where darkie is ...…

Well, I am not a blonde but I will help figure out where he is!

the sickies, janet, wendy, tammy...........brab is blowing mummy dust to you as i speak......

she is a real good blower.

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Okay...normal to 'chew'...I get it....but eat poop? Send the little sweetheart to Tricia's....she could probably use him :rolleyes1 :lmao:

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

note accepted.
like i said before, you are good to go.
:thumbsup2

Thanks!

trial husbands?
mine was longer than a trial, more like a sentence........ .

long story.

i think my 2nd marriage is the trial one......:rolleyes1
he was home for 9 days straight due to the flu.
one more day and i would have left

My first was a trial. The second has been the sentence!

i have a friend that had her labor/delivery video taped at the time of giving birth.
when she gets ticked off at the kid, she watches the video in reverse and puts him back in.

she says it makes her feel so much better and it takes the anger away she has.....

36_11_6.gif
That is hilarious!

Fun trip...yay!!!! But, we'll miss you :sad1:

36_2_27.gif

What...you got an oven or space heater in there??? What do you sell that is 'hot' to keep ya warm??
(PERFECT positioning on the stand too )

No heat, but there is ac for when it gets hot out. We had coffee & hot chocolate, frito chili pies, nachos & hot dogs. It is a very nice building and well insulated. Since it was warm out yesterday it was warm in the building. I even kept leaving a window open cause it was too warm.

It is a 2 story building & the press box is upstairs. That is why it is behind home plate.
36_1_12.gif

How much safer can it be if it's still going at least 200mph?? :confused3

Exactly. It is looking very dangerous to me.

Windpower electric....you should look into it....

I would either get extremely rich or the wind would stop blowing so much. I would be happy either way!

oh yeah...i saw it dripping off ya! :thumbsup2

36_1_1.gif

You just HAD to say that, didntcha??
4.gif

4_15_4.gif

I'm thinkin' you're right...but, where do the 'seagulls' fit in?? :confused3

He’s just trying to throw us off track.

:lmao: He IS a good kid....definately not a 'problem or challenge' to raise. He minds pretty well for his age, rarely fibs, and is courteous (I'm guessing he gets that from karate....) Oh...and WHY do you think I have only ONE??? :rolleyes1 (they say: "there's 1 in every family...well, I have my 1, and he's great.... I'm not giving birth to the 'other' one! :scared: )

:rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl: :lmao:

Right back atcha!

Thank you Damo. This is why we are taking him to Sylvan Learning. He had a really bad 6th grade math class last year. His class was really bad and it was the last class of the day. I think the teacher was overwhelmed by the discipline problems and as a result couldn't teach. We started him at Sylvan for math last summer and he had not mastered all 5th grade skills.

So math is going to be tough for another year (going to Sylvan all summer in '08). He is doing 7th grade at school and still learning 5th and 6th grade basic skills. He should be closer to his grade level by September '08.

We just didn't want him to fall too far behind.

Way to stay on top of it.

The same way the CPA ends up with a child that can't do math.

God's way of making the world go round.;)

:rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl: :lmao: Not that it is funny that he is struggling.

Now that I'm all caught up - Good Morning Fletch!

:)

Everyone have a blessed day - Get over the hump today.

:cool1:

You too!

Morning peoples...just stopping by at work. Be back later. :thumbsup2

Hi Todd!

MORNIN' ALL!!!

On my way to work....have a good 'humpin' y'all'

Sounds like a good bed to me! Good luck!

almost forgot....

congrats lori on getting the trophy.

you wear it well

Thanks, but I’ve had mine for a while. The new trophy went to Penny.

i conveniently put that fact under the covers:rolleyes1 ; my standards have lowered;)

I thought so!

i could eat a sandwich & soup for dinner almost any night too. Sorry to hear of your back surgery, hope it wasn't too much of an ordeal for you. I've been avoiding neck surgery for over 10 years (which i was told i needed immediately; now they say not if-but when...i am determined to prove them wrong:thumbsup2 ). Aside from the fact that i'm a lily-livered coward, the words cadaver donor creeped me out...kept thinking along the line of bad stephen king novel lol

15_4_132.gif
I think you have Stephen King on the brain!

lori - you probably have more volunteers than you need lol

36_1_6.gif
Afraid not!

Okay, so WHERE WAS THE TAG FAIRY LAST NIGHT???!!!???

They were in rare form last night!

  Hello Homies :dance3: :dance3:

Hi Lawrence!

Ugh! I would prefer to make the donations too. Have you asked if you can? I bet they would take it.

All hail the mighty peep!

Here is the kicker though the schools are not calling me to work:teacher: because they have no money to pay me but our mayor (who gives me a :headache: ) just cut our funding and is going to cut more funding to the schools. It always seems to be hurting the childern but he is only in for one more year :woohoo: .

Why in the world is the town mayor controlling the schools funding? That is ridiculous. Here the funding is done by the state in addition to the bond elections we have locally. Any bond money can only be used for the purpose that it was voted for.

Lori .... TEXTING IS EVIL I can't stand it . I think it is the worst thing my DH has even let my kids get. It makes them such bad spellers. Not only that , has your school given up on spelling words ? Some of our teachers are not giving weekly spelling test anymghore . WHY?? :confused3 I just don't understand education anymore .

No they still have spelling tests all the way through hs. Mikey isn't a great speller, just lazy though. Ally is an amazing speller. There are many things in education that I don't understand. :sad2:

The movie was Space Jam. It was a fun movie. Than again, I'd watch grass grow with MJ, if he played bball a couple minutes every hour or so. ;) My most depressing, non family or health related, moments in my life were when the Heels lost in the NCAA tourney MJ's jr. year, & when he retired the 1st, 2nd & 3rd times. They were very depressing times indeed. The game has never been the same for me. :sad1:

You can talk about MJ all you want!

I've spent my entire married life teaching my DH to reply the same way[SIZE]. :rotfl:

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Why are we having problems with the site again? I guess the mods need to delete threads again...sheesh!

It is the great new servers they are using. Funny thing is I didn't hardly ever have problems BEFORE THEY CHANGED THEM!

our high school has a bowling team. many of the hs here have them and the tournaments are great.

i think 4 of our girls at the hs won scholarships to colleges based on the bowling achievement they had.

That is great!

wow, you have a very clean bedroom.

remind me to lock all my doors if you ever stop by.
i live in a dump

Remember, they just redecorated!

you have the kewlest smilies.

why did i think you were a blonde?
have you shown any of your pics yet to us?

i'll send you a swatch of my hair and you can put it in yours for an extension and be a blonde then.

being blonde is only a frame of mind..........

Ah thanks!

Never been a blonde. I have dark brown hair. I have only posted one pic of me along with the rest of the family a while back. I do not like pictures taken of me.

Remember, they just redecorated!
:rotfl2: :lmao:

Oh My you really do know me. It is true we just did redecorate so it is clean ... FOR NOW :lmao:

Our mayor is the mayor of NYC he has control of the schools but he is a busniess man and really should NOT have control of the school system . There is not a :teacher: I know that really understands what is goingon with him as the leader of the schools. I just wish I had the money to put all my kids in catholic school or at least a private school.

Gotta run be by later... BTW anyone notice we are almost at PAGE 200 !!:scared1:
