i figured with lori having the birthday/slumber party at her place tonight she would be up still.

lori, its wake up time........
time to deal the cards....

Okay...since you're the expert, recommend some for 9yo boy :confused3 (There are over 30 to choose from  )

ETA: Might have to get what I can find tho :(
Yes...they do have a lot of games don't they. If Ryan likes to find things, I would definately recommend any of the Mystery Case Files games. You might want to start with Huntsville since that was the first game and is the easiest to play. He could get a good idea if he likes it or not and then get the other games in the series later on. I'll look at the site and see what he might like and PM you with a list. :thumbsup2

Good Saturday Morning All!

I guess from reading, many of you will be sleeping in today. Lucky you.:cool1:

I am on my way to work. Just wanted to check in and "ketchup" as Barb says.

Got home last night around 7pm and just crashed. I did unpack and catch up on my newspapers and mail, so I don't have to do that today.

Hope everyone's well and has a nice day. Check in with you tonight.:)

Hey, guys! :hippie: I hope you don't mind if I crash your thread!

I'm Bonnie. :flower3:

Hi Macraven! How are you, my friend?

I had a question about Universal and hoped you guys had heard something. What's the progress on the Harry Potter area at Universal? Is it under construction? Any info about what kind of rides and attractions will be there? All I know at this point is that they are planning one to be finished in late 2009/early 2010.

Thank you!

:welcome: :welcome: :welcome:

Hi Bonnie! Just wanted to be the first to lay out the Welcome Mat! Unfortunately, I'm not much help on your question, but I'm sure our resident experts will be here soon to help you out! Just wanted to invite you to drop by to chat any time!

Well I was barely asleep, if at all by this time. Everyone had gone to bed, girls in the living room watching High School Musical 2, and I dozed off. Woke up and went out to turn off the television and one of the girls (the only one who caused any problems with any of the other girls last night) was sitting up on the phone with her mom or dad, crying & wanting to go home. So what does the parent do? They tell her to aks me to bring her home! :headache: She lived 12 miles away. 30 minutes later I was back home and back in bed. Of course it took forever to go back to sleep, should have come in here to see if you were still up.

Can someone explain to me why her parents didn't come get her themselves?

Hi Bonnie! Welcome to our home. Hope you stick around and yak with us.

I really haven't heard anything about it since the announcement but I bet you MW or DM can fill you in on what is going on. Of course there are plenty of others that probably can too but those guys live there. Lucky ducks!

I would have said something like "Oh, no, I can't possibly leave the rest of the girls here while I drive there". Of course, if she's already crying, not going to be long before she has everyone back awake again, so you probably did what you had to do. But without a doubt, that was the parent's role. About the only thing I can think of is single parent with younger kids they couldn't leave? :confused3 Otherwise, just lazy parent! Guess you know who NOT to invite next time!

Thanks for the welcome! :yay:

So do you ladies have any trips planned soon? I am going to WDW in 3 weeks with some other DISers! I am very excited.

I have not been to Universal yet, but we are planning to go when the Harry Potter land opens! I cannot WAIT for that!

you have been missed here damo.........so happy that you jumped in.

tell us more about your house. are you going to live 6 months in canada then the other in usa?

you will have so much fun in south carolina.

so much fun that all the homies will bring their pillows to your house for the slumber party............

Right now the plan is just to go when we can. I've got too many tutoring and babysitting obligations to be able to spend a lot of time down there right now, but my hubby (he's only 51 but very burnt out due to a very high pressure job) plans on spending as much as he can until his brain starts getting back to normal. Hopefully, we'll have lots of friends and relatives coming down to golf and get some sun and keeping him company. I don't want to leave our son for too long either. He comes home most weekends, this year still anyways. Next year will be different. I hope to cut out the tutoring for the winter semester 2009 and so will be able to spend more time down there. The drive is only about 16 hours, so that isn't too bad.

Nope both parents home and two older sisters that are driving age. Just VERY lazy parents. I hate to say it but I am not surprised at all.

We are going in July and can't wait. Your trip sounds like lots of fun!

Hi all!

Hope it's ok that I just jump right in on your thread. We're planning a trip to USF/IOA in April, my first trip there since 1993 so I know a lot has changed since then. My boys and DH have never been so this is all new to us so I'm trying to learn everything I can about it. Our oldest DS is 13 and a total coaster freak, there's nothing he won't ride. Our other DS is 5 so I'm wondering if there are any attractions someone could suggest for a child his age. I'm not sure how he'll do on anything dark or loud, he's never been on anything like that before, so are there certain things it might be best to avoid with someone his age?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm sure I'll think of more over the next couple of months ;)

Donna

Hey Donna...welcome! Seuss Landing at IOA is a kid's delight...as well as some adults...the only dark ride there is Cat in the Hat...which is really fun!

At the Studios...all of the rides are indoors except Jaws. He will like the Curious George play area but if you can get him on a dark ride...he should be ok with Jimmy Neutron, Shrek and Cat in the Hat...as well as E.T. Hopefully, the Simpsons' new ride will be open by then but nothing has been announced.

I would definately skip Twister and Posideon's Fury...both are dark and loud!

Hello Bonnie and welcome to the Universal homies! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

The new HP area is being kept quiet right now...as far as I can tell. I know there is some construction going on but Universal hasn't updated the public on the rides or the expected completion date over what has already been rumored.

We (locals) will be posting information on here as things are released so stay tuned!

Hi Donna! Welcome to the friendliest thread on the dis. Glad to have you joi n us too. Come back often.

I agree with everything MW said!

Katie, I don't quite follow the scheme that DF's parents laid out, but sounds like they were embezzling DF's funds, eh? That sux. I'm sure they won't be contributing at all to your wedding fund then? Mike's parents were a little clueless and didn't offer to pay for anything for our wedding. Then, Mike's sister got a little mad, and told them it wasn't fair that Mike and me and my parents were paying for everything, and the least they could offer to do was pay for the rehearsal dinner. Which they did, once they were asked. Sounds like your future in-laws are a katrillion times worse, however, and I feel your pain. Can you lay out what happened in writing to help them see what they did? Or, are they fully aware that they scammed your DF and don't care? Depending upon how your DF feels about it, I would cut them off from the wedding happenings and not invite them. But, that's just me. Stealing is terrible in and of itself, but stealing from your own child really takes the cake. Come back and let us know how it all works out. :grouphug:

Lori, I cannot believe those parents. What gall! You were much nicer than I'd have been. I surely would not have taken her home. But, like Marcie said, now you know who not to include next time!

Damo, welcome back! Your 2nd home is nicer than my first! Have fun with that. :goodvibes

Welcome to our new members!

Good morning all! What's on everyone's agendas today?

uh, the groom won't have anyone!!!

I figured you wanna be hammered for the nuptials.....

i have to help take care of barb that night!

Wellllll...if we aren't invited, we're crashin' :thumbsup2 And wait...you assume I'll be hammered :confused3 (Raven, will you hold my hair while I "worship"?? )

Hi Bonnie! Welcome to the "redheaded stepchildren" side of the DIS! Like MetroWest said, mums the word on HP coming.....hope you stick around and yak! :goodvibes

Those parents were in the wrong and THEY should have picked their kid up. (Like Marcie said, you know who to NOT invite next time!) If they couldn't come get her, oh well...she'd suffered. You shoulda said you couldn't leave a houseful of girls.... You're like me..."too nice" :headache:

(oops! back to work!)

i just received another discount for the loews las vegas hrh.
$59 / night rooms..........!!

i got an email for their resort outside of vegas last week, very tempting;)
unless i'm all mixed up:upsidedow thought the Hard Rock Hotel in Vegas was not owned by Loews:confused3

Kfed - i'm a realtor & got lost as to the ins & outs of the story, some big numbers $ being thrown around there; not sure what to say...sorry you're unhappy though. I do know when one is a guardian or has power of attorney one of the things you swear to in front of the notary is to not co-mingle personal funds with the individual in question.

barb - summer in vegas is def. not high season:lmao: hotter than hades. My auntie used to live there, said they tried to never go outside then unless they had to; one of the reasons lake mead is such a hit

damo - betcha your glad to have smart kiddos:thumbsup2 . Gators - here they're good eating, did you make stew yet lol. Brought oldest 2 DS back gator jerky (both proclaimed it gross; yet ate it for braggin rights - ha). Beautiful community, is it near the beach? ps decided upon the DL for this summer

lori - i'm glad my youngest is out of the sleepover stage. Remember the oldest son had one years ago...woke up in the am & one of the kids was missing:scared1: . Here, he got homesick & called parents to pick him up...nobody told me we was leaving :upsidedow thought i was in big trouble there...wasn't sure how to phrase the phone call to his parents

jennifer - welcome home, do you have to cook dinner:rotfl:

bonnie/toots - velcome to the darkside:)

elmer:wizard: popcorn:: we need an update

everyone psyched for some football:cheer2:

It is a beautiful place, but I could do without the "friend"!:scared1:

I agree damo....looks quiet and relaxing.... tell the "friends" you don't need the welcome wagon...... (also mention you're looking for a new pair of boots!)

Hey Donna :wave2: Welcome to the darkside! Stick around an chat. I would suggest buying Kelly Monaghan's book titled Universal Orlando...it is equivalant to what the UOG is to WDW. His book has details about the rides, hotels, CityWalk, restaurants, etc....absolutely everything you need to know... But, Metro was on the money with his advice :thumbsup2 We're here to help ya plan an awesome trip!

Katie, .....sounds like they were embezzling DF's funds, eh? That sux.
