i like the way you think:banana:; spring's just around the corner...couple inches of snow on my steps so far. Pens prevailed, exciting ending.

Anyone's town do the polar bear thing where you take a dip in river/lake in freezing temps on NYs day?

mic - i remember now, how could i forget...wonder if lynn's daughter got married yet? think you're living groundhogs day with all that shovel...get a snowblower. I make the youngest do it;) ; he still thinks it fun.

tricia - i luv, luv greens soooo much; good ones hard to find up north. Surprisingly, a few local KFCs have them. you must give me a recipie when you have a chance:wizard: ...currently i open a can since the kids don't always hanker for them. Southern MILs were tasteless, her black eyed peas were enough to break your teeth?

dh crying for his laptop; see ya tomorrow. Still haven't decided to do a complete restore on desktop or not, it keeps shutting down randomly?

is everyone here German?
janet is irish but she ate the kraut stuff.
I am Irish and Welsh. (Perhaps I'm related to Prince Charles)

Picks for the Super Bowl - I always pick my Steelers. And I'll pick Green Bay -for Marci and Brett Favre.

I have spent many hours on the computer since Christmas playing some new PC games. Sadly, now it's time to get back to reality. School and work starts back up tomorrow. Son is hoping for snow day. If we get 2 inches, they call of school. :rolleyes1- in my day we walked to school in 6 inches of snow and ice and uphill - both ways!!:lmao:

Tomorrow night is big bowl game for me and Lori - WVU vs Oklahoma. Our head coach deserted us and went to Michigan.

my parents are fist generation americans

my mothers folks came from England during boat lifts
my fathers mother is from Germany
his father is from Greece.

so, i guess that makes me a European American

I'm gonna guess Jacksonville vs. Dallas

I refuse to pick the obvious odds on favorites, so there. :p

Brad's dad is Irish. His mom is Norweigan. I joke that he is was a cultural science experiment.

I've been into genealogy for quite sometime. On my mother's side I can trace back to an English immigrant in the late 1700s that her maiden name is directly decended from. Most of my branches are deep rooted here in the southern US. I've made it back into the 1800s on all main branches and my ancestor's were mostly born in AL, GA, SC... and that's about it. There is some Cherokee Indian on my mother's side. There appears to be some Irish on my mother's mothers line. Other than that, I can't dig back far enough to find what else might be mixed in. At least, not yet. I get in the mood and bang my head against those brick walls every now and then.

Okay, wanted to multi-quote, but it looks like that might take way too long since it took forever to get a reply box!

Katie - I'm sorry to hear all this about the dentist stuff. My mom went through it for over a year. Basically, she took Fosamax for years (strengthen bones). Well, apparently one of the side effects has to do with pulled teeth. She had to get a tooth pulled and pretty much it wouldn't heal and the jawbone just started decomposing. Evidently this is becoming more common - before they thought it was only people who took it in IV form (usually cancer patients), but now they've found zillions of cases where it happened to people who took the normal dosage.

She had chunks of bone coming out of her jaw, which was of course in pain because it never healed, for months. Then it spread to her neck and some of the bones there started dissolving. They were talking about inserting horse vertebrae (:confused3 ) through her throat into her neck for support if it didn't stop, but they finally got it under control nearly a year ago now. Just amazing how much pain she was in and how little they seemed able to do. She ended up in the ER once from an overdose of Vicodin (we think too much pain, kept taking more, finally forgot if or how much she'd already taken!) having her stomach pumped. All in all it wasn't a good experience and gave me quite a low regard for the whole profession - actually she dealt mostly with specialists (oral surgeons) and they still couldn't help.

Since you're about 4 decades younger than she is, I'm assuming you haven't been taking Fosamax regularly and hopefully the dentist can take care of it all on Thursday. For now take what you can and we wish you luck!

Jennifer - sorry to hear about your coach, but wanted to throw in after today's game, GO BLUE!

Okay, I finally uploaded some pics (okay, okay, DH did it), so I'll just start with a few at a time.

First of all, the ornament I got from Lori! I'm guessing it's because we're campers and when I was emailing her before our trip to WDW this summer I was always talking about the camping we were doing!

Sorry the pic isn't great - with the flash was worse! The next 3 pics are from Christmas Eve of my son at church, playing all his different instruments. I didn't feel comfortable taking pics during the mass, so these are all during the preludes before mass starts. The piano and tuba ones are okay, but they flicked the lights off on me right before the drum one and I didn't want to use flash. If you look closely, you can see him there playing in the shadows!

Penny, as much as I hate to say this (being a Packers' fan and all), I'll have to predict the Super Bowl as Dallas vs. Patriots. :scared: I don't think the Patriots are as good as they're cracked up to be, but they certainly seem to have luck on their side in the games I've watched. And as much as I'd like to say so, I just can't see the Packers beating Dallas at home.

I just finished cooking up a storm, eating up a storm and then cleaning up after that storm

(DH had a hockey game, so he wasn't here) So, before I go back into the kitchen to make DH's lunch for tomorrow and get ready for bed, I will be a good little homie and do my ketchuping.......

jennifer - it's a tradition & for good luck ; same as having a non-family male peep be the 1st in the door not that im superstitous or anything.

My German/Irish/Scottish family knows this, as my Uncle was first in the door today.....

barb - price it out & let me know what you come up with, i'll file it away for the future.

Yep...we'll do :thumbsup2 (Ya know I would love to go this New Years ['08-'09], but we already have so much time and money tied up into the summer vacation :headache: ) I believe the 2009-2010 New Years holiday will have Jan. 1st on a FRIDAY  That might make for a good lil trip :scratchin

My DS gets fri & mon off for MLK day (nearly all white school district-go figure); unfortunately the buttheads that be schedule midterms the week prior & standardized tests the following week. A good waste of potential great vacation scheduling. think my brain is vacation slot hardwired

:rotfl2: I agree...someone doesn't want kids taking 'long weekends'.... We have off MLK day too....but that's it.

The traditional New Year's dinner around here is black eyed peas and collard greens... usually with a pork roast. The black eyed peas are for luck in the new year. The collard greens are for prosperity in the new year. The pork, as far as I know, is just because it goes well with black eyed peas and greens.

The boys did not make it until midnight last night. They had reached the spastic point by 9:45, so at 10pm I called for bedtime.

We are still knee deep in prep for the trip mode. We went to the grocery store earlier to stock up on snacks and drinks for the car. I keep trying to get my list of things to do straight in my head, but I don't feel like I've got it all together yet.

The greens and peas are an interesting NY dinner... never heard of it...always the pork and kraut :confused3 Sounds like the boys gave it their best effort to stay up....maybe shoulda broke out the SUGAR around 9pm maybe? :confused3 :rotfl: Oh, and the problem you're having 'organizing' for your trip....you are trying to get it 'straight in your head'...uh..that doesn't work...put it on PAPER woman!

nope the saint was alone on nye's last night.
don't ask me how i know, i just know......

i'm waiting for the dirt on why the dude pouted and stopped playing the game......::yes:: :listen:

Ya know....he is the "next wet blanket" in the group next to the first guy who didn't want to play at all. He's in his early 40's (as all the guys are) and guess doesn't want to be bothered or not interested or whatever :confused3 He just got up and walked away and started a conversation with the guy who didn't want to participate in the first place....guess he wasn't as 'peeved' at him as he wanted everyone to think :snooty:
Anyhow...to answer Tricia's question about it getting 'ugly'.... We had the 3 teen girls on our team (3 adult gals) and Ryan was on the boys team of the 3 guys. Well, in the second game when the one guy bailed, the host guy went to the kitchen to get beverage and snack...taking his time :rolleyes1 Well, that left Bubba and Dad on their team alone... So, i wanted to switch up to make it even, DH said no (later explained reasons--which, i understand his point and agree). Then, the teen girls were all like ":cool1: we kicked their butt" ...okay, there were, what? 6 of us and Ryan & Dad on the other team....yeah...we really kicked their butt :sad2: (I saw it and the look on DH's face...knew it wasn't good).... Then, to top it off, Bubba & Dad being the only ones on their team, I would have to make sure Ryan knew what he was drawing.... for example...he had to draw "Robin Hood". He couldn't picture who he was :confused3 So, I told him to pick another card and he was okay....So, it really wasn't all it should have been and my DH wasn't happy and I knew it :headache: So, Pictionary...bad idea.... buying KIDS Pictionary for Bubba for his birthday....good idea! :thumbsup2

the first thing i did this year was shovel the drive.

so...you were shoveling at midnight?? :confused3

Brad just brought me a glass of wine.

I didn't ask for a glass of wine. He just walked in and shoved it in my hand.

I wonder if he's trying to tell me something?

Thanks everyone for your thoughts

I'm gonna try and get some sleep so I can be somewhat functional tomorrow.

Good night all!

.......I'm terrible at drawing. Seriously. Carol is usually my partner. She's worse than I am. It's funny. I mean, we enjoy how bad we are. If either one of us looks down at the paper an realizes the other is trying to draw an animal, we'll always say, "Oh, crap. It's an animal. Horse, cow, pig, donkey, chicken..." because the way we draw, it could be anything so just start guessing. :rotfl:

:lmao: yep...we suck at drawing too....but, i guess we girls just think alike! For instance, I had to draw "braille". :confused3 So, drew stick person with dark glasses and cane (they got "blind"), then I drew a book with 'dots' for 'letters'...eventually, they picked it up :thumbsup2 But yes....it has been "pee your pants funny" at times....

Barb: If I feel pain after Thurs., my dentist will be feeling even more believe me.....

give 'em a piece of your mind!!!!

I am Irish and Welsh. (Perhaps I'm related to Prince Charles)

Sadly, now it's time to get back to reality. School and work starts back up tomorrow. -Jennifer

Are we in the presence of ''royalty''?? :worship:

Yep...actually lookin' forward to getting back to the daily grind...I am a person of 'organization' and 'routine'....at my most comfortable with that..... Had to tell DH a funny story the other day...went to the grocery store and kept thinking i was forgetting stuff.... "Off" my normal...usually get salad stuff, fruit, etc.... DH has not been taking 'normal' lunch stuff cuz he hasn't worked a full week of work in a couple of weeks.... :headache: long story short ----off my routine, feels weird and it's killin' me!!!

I've been into genealogy for quite sometime.

DH and his cuzin traced back to just before 1900 with their family.... I think even DH's grandfather (or great grandfather) signing some "immigration" papers :confused3 He showed me, but been a while since he's done it (since he discovered making music videos out of our home movies....)

Katie - I'm sorry to hear all this about the dentist stuff. My mom went through it for over a year. Basically, she took Fosamax for years (strengthen bones).

Okay, I finally uploaded some pics (okay, okay, DH did it), so I'll just start with a few at a time.

The next 3 pics are from Christmas Eve of my son at church, playing all his different instruments.

That is awful what your Mom went thru :sad2: After reading what you wrote, I DO remember hearing about that on tv.... Hard to imagine something that is supposed to STRENGTHEN your bones makes them fall apart (no matter where in the body the bone is!) Just ridiculous..... :sad2: I think your ornament is great....it's verrry cute and 'fits' you... I also thought the pix of your son were very nice.... He looks so "mature" sitting there all dressed up and playing..... Thanks for sharing!

Okay....I'm ketchuped.....
1.gif
.....wasn't sooooo bad

Think I'll get DH's lunch made and turn in for the night. Actually have to go to the h*llhole office tomorrow..... odd, been out for 2 calendar weeks, but only 'took off' 2 days  Should be interesting to see what all transpired while I was absent :rolleyes1

If I don't catch ya tonite....happy nite, New Year and everything to all!!! :grouphug:

The greens and peas are an interesting NY dinner... never heard of it...always the pork and kraut :confused3

The black-eye peas and greens are a southern thing. Brad had never heard of it before either. I grew up thinking every one had to eat it on New Years day.

And where OMG where did you find the bananas having sex smiley? I'm sitting here printing out coloring pages and activity pages off FamilyFun and NickJr to keep the boys happy on our almost 5 hour car trip. I click over to the DIS and refresh the page. And OH MY! There are bananas having at it on my screen! :lmao:  :lmao:  :lmao:

BTW if it was Brad's plan to get me drunk, it didn't work. The memory of waking with mega heartburn this morning was enough to keep me from sipping more than one glass of wine.

My favorite one that I got Carol to guess was senior... as in the Spanish word senior... I don't know how to put the accent thingy over it, but you know what I mean. I drew a graduation cap on a stick figure and she got "senior". Then I drew a stick figure with a sombrero on. She was like, "A Mexican senior? A SENIOR!" :rotfl:

First, you could have "pretended" to be drunk :rolleyes1
Second, you don't need to be drunk...:rolleyes1

True... and true.

For the most part, I prefer to not be drunk. It usually dulls the senses.

One of our faves is from years ago when (guys vs gals) it was 'down to this draw' ...literally. We were trying to guess "concert"....and our gal was doing a hulluva job drawing a "concert". Well, someone pointed out (one of the guys) that the guys aren't trying to guess what we are and looked at the drawings and made the connection that the 2 were "not on the same page". Turns out, the guy thought he was supposed to be drawing "concrete" :lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao: (Needless to say, we drew a different card, the girls STILL kicked their @$$ and that dude did NOT drive home! :rotfl: )

really?? that's interesting :scratchin .... on the rare occassion i get a buzz or toasted, we have WAAAAAY MORE fun..... :rolleyes1

Stopped by to say Hi to all you homies and have a nice night and plesant dreams

Barb: If I feel pain after Thurs., my dentist will be feeling even more believe me.....

Took a nap and for a while felt better, but now I'm in agony...

Sorry to complain so much but there is nothing I can do and I hate the feeling!!

Hitting up the meds again so let's pray!!

i feel your pain kfish. complain all you want. to me it is like stereo..
mr mac has been in agony for 10 days with his tooth.
he had a crown done 5 months ago with out the root canal being done, which the doc recommended........

the last 3 nights that man has made it impossible to sleep.
he is up every hour almost.

i told him a week ago to get an appointment before the holiday.
does he listen..........NOOOOOOOOOOOO

on my list tomorrow is to call the specialist for him.

i do hope you feel better soon kfish. tomorrow is thursday and at 4 you will meet the man with the golden hands that will take care of that toother for you.

I am Irish and Welsh. (Perhaps I'm related to Prince Charles)

School and work starts back up tomorrow. Son is hoping for snow day. If we get 2 inches, they call of school. :rolleyes1- in my day we walked to school in 6 inches of snow and ice and uphill - both ways!!:lmao:

my parents are fist generation americans

my mothers folks came from England during boat lifts

so, i guess that makes me a European American

i guess i am one also just like penny then.
born in the usa............

i have been doing genealogy for years. i love doing it.
my genealogy society takes yearly trips to utah for the mormon library.
i'm pretty far back to 1500 for the belgian/french/luxembourg group.
only to 1710 for the scots though.
