well, i'm typing with one eye open and one shut........
so that is kind of like typing like shatner also....eh..

Hey - look what the cat dragged in - it's me! Yeah, I haven't been around much because we've been SO busy. We leave tomorrow for Boston & skiing in Vermont. I'll try to keep up with the thread, but certainly won't be responding much.

Had a rough day yesterday. Eric got 4 warts on his hand lasered with involved using a long needle to go under each one and numb it first. Then I got to rush over to a different doc with Matt. His thumb was all red and swollen and, evidently, infected. So I next got to watch them slice and dice it to get (this is the technical term the doctor used) the "nasties" out! A fun morning of watching my sons get tortured.

Came home to a note from the school district telling me that Eric is truant for the year since he's missed more than 10 days of school. Well, I doubt that he's missed much more than 10 HOURS of school, but evidently according to their policy they spelled out for me "missing any portion of the school day constitutes an absence for that day"! :confused3 So all the times I pulled him out of gym or band first hour (he has study hall second hour) to go to the ortho or get his warts treated counted as full days of missed school. Tell me that makes sense. The letter gave no guidance as to what this signified, other than to tell us that we need to watch his absences carefully in the future!

Off to do more packing now that I've turned in my absence form to Mac for the next week! ;) Don't want to be marked truant!

This is all part of the No Child Left Behind Act. Schools make these rules to look like they are conforming to the law. I know in our district that if you have a doctor's excuse then they won't count it against you--call the doctor and see if he/she will get you copies to turn in.:)

It's Friday Homies!!!!

Villanova moves on - whoot!!

Let's go Temple!!

oh - and HAPPY SPRING!!:cool1:

Welcome avic!!! :cheer2: :cheer2:

Guess I'm the only one around now so I'll welcome you, but I'm sure Mac will be here with the official welcome wagon!

Minnie - I agree with you. What triggered this is that he is one of only two middle school students in our city to make the Youth Orchestra program. Monday they were off all day putting on concerts at the University for elementary school kids from around the area. Guess that was the absence that broke the camel's back, so to say. :confused3 We always turn in the slip they give you from the orthodontist when he goes back, but I guess I never got one from the wart doctor! (yeah, that sounds like a good title!).

So what are they going to do? Hold him back? This is the kid who is number 1 in his class, taking 6 of his 7 classes at the high school (everything but gym) and will be in 2 AP classes next year as a freshman. Yeah - go ahead. Hold him back. Then senior year he can spend the entire school day taking classes at the local college (which he'll probably already be doing his normal senior year, so MORE classes) that the state can pay for instead of me! Works for me! :thumbsup2

Well, I'm off to pack the car. We're doing the exciting drive to Milwaukee, followed by the 20 minute flight to Chicago, then a long flight to Boston. I priced just driving into Chicago instead, and that cost 3 times as much! After my husband and oldest son drop us off, they'll drive from Milwaukee to Madison to see our high school basketball play in the state championships. They won last night (and they got back home about 1am!) so this is the semifinals (4 teams left), which is the furthest our school has ever made it. Go Pirates!!! pirate: pirate:

Sorry...I was actually busy at work this morning.

I probably will go over to one of the parks this Sunday...I have to do some of the yard work tomorrow that I've been putting off. My flower bed looks like the jungle has taken over.

You're welcome to stop by if you love airports that much! ;) You could probably make the drive between them as well and beat us there! I still have your phone numbers in my cell (assuming they haven't changed since the last time we met up!). We'll be hitting Milwaukee around 2pm (maybe a bit later). We only have a little over an hour layover in Chicago, so I don't think that would be enough time to get through security and socialize both!

Really, though, you don't need to. I'll have two tired, cranky teenage boys with me, which should be enough to scare anyone off! Hopefully we'll make it down to Six Flags again this summer and can meet up then!

To another homie on the SAN thread!!!:thumbsup2

Who is Dario Franchitti??

Ooo... Ooo... I know this one! He drove the Target Dodge for awhile last year in Nascar, but he is mainly an open wheel (Indy) driver. He is married to Ashley Judd and is a hottie (but you probably don't care about that part ;) ).

I remember when truant meant skipping class to go hang out and generally cause trouble, not being taken to the MD by your parents. Schools need to focus more on education and safety than what parents do with their children.

Off my soap box.

Is there room on that soap box for me? I'll join you. :rolleyes1

Marcie, I got one of those letters too. Signed by the pricipal and everything. Oooh. Like I'm really scared now. I took the letter in and said, "Hi. Remember me? I'm the mother you had to call in because the ambulance was here to transport my son when he was having a seizure in class. He has epilepsy. He sees doctors, has tests, and has seizures that cause him to miss school. I always attach the doctors (or hospitals) note to his absenses. What is up with this?"

She told me it is a standard form letter, generated by computer automatically when the child misses X number of days, and to feel free to throw it away. She knows perfectly well the situation my son is in.

Stupid waste 'o my time.
