Something a bit odd

Our last trip about 11 months ago, my family and I were at MK and we were walking up to the entrance to the "Splash Mountain" line and my two little Disney Nutz started to belly ache about the wait. I think it read 65 minutes for stand-by. Just then a CM that was weeping the grounds approached us and explained that he could bring us to the front of the line. This made me VERY uncomfortable. I declined very politely and told him that I didn't mind waiting my turn. As we walked away he told my MIL that he does this all the time and they are permitted to do this. I didn't care and stood on line like everyone else. Has anyone ever heard of this happening or had this happen to them? :confused3

It hasn't happened to me (yet), but it happens all the time. CM's sprinkle pixie dust all sorts of ways. It's Disney magic. :wizard:

Maybe he was just planning to explain the fastpass system to you. I wouldn't feel uncomfortable at all.

I haven't had that happen but I have had CMs overhear what's going on in my day and take steps to make it better - thus throwing a little pixie dust my way. I would have said sure, great and thanks! Let him thrown the pixie dust your way!

Yeah, but let's hope they don't pick just the whiny ones to sprinkle pixie dust on, or else there will be dozens of posts about how parents made their kids whine, etc, to get front of the line access... :rotfl:

Was this a custodial CM?

B/c usually it isn't the attraction CM's that are sweeping.

I would think it odd if a custodial CM came up--b/c though they can help make magic happen...they aren't really of any authority to be providing cutsy's in the line.

If it was an attractions CM who happened to be sweeping--then that would be different.

The CM's are pretty much limited to the magic in their area of responsibility---and if that magic needs to occur elsewhere....then the CM can help get the right CM to see if that is possible if that makes any sense.

Last year as we were getting off the People Mover (or what ever it is called), a CM gave us 4 fast passes to Buzz Lightyear. Not sure how she got them, but we said thanks and took them. It was kind of strange, since she seemed to have picked us at random. But you know the old saying about a gift horse ...

Yes, this was a custodial CM. A young fellow and very polite. I just felt a bit strange cutting infront of others w/o a good reason. I felt a bit bad that I declined but I didn't think it was Kosher. Who knows, maybe next time, if there is ever a next time ;)

Once we were outside of Test Track and had a nice conversation with a custodian guy sweeping up. At the end he gave us purple passes (not the regular fast passes) good for front line access to Test Track. We kept them and used them a year or two later. It was very nice of him!

A few years ago we were at MK and went to the Pooh ride. The fast passes were all gone for the day and the wait was over 2 hours. A CM overheard our conversation about our dissappointment. She said she thought she could do something about that and told us to follow her. We did and she took us around through the exit and up to the front. There she asked the CM to allow her new friends on the ride. I didn't feel guilty about this because I wouldn't have been upset if it happened to someone else and it truly was a gift from her.

I've never had this at Disney; however, we were lucky enough at Islands of Adventure last year. There were four of us. One woman had the Express Pass Plus which gives you one front of the line access for each ride. We were trying to get express passes at The Hulk for the my sister and I, but we couldn't because they were gone for that day. An older cast member who was sweeping over heard us and gave us a front of the line pass good for four people. My DH didn't want to go, our friend had her pass, so only my sister and I needed this. We invited another couple who were standing near by and on the ride we all went. We looked for the sweeper when we got off to thank him again, but he wasn't around.
