--last night. Right out of her front yard. What is happening with people? My co-worker didn't notice herself as she wasn't home last night, her daughter was staying the night and said she thought she heard something but when she looked out she didn't see anything. Who would steal someones flowers? They were just daisys, nothing special. Has anyone else had something like this happen. It's just bizarre.

Did they just pick the flowers, or did they pull up the whole plant, roots and all? Not that it makes a difference in the fact that they were stolen, but it could make a difference as to why they were taken.

I imagine ones that were picked, were given to someone as a gift. I imagine whole plants taken from the ground were replanted in another location.

Or maybe someone just has it out for your nieghbor and you can expect more "pranks"?

Did they steal pots of flowers or did they pick flowers that were in her garden? I suppose either way its wrong but I wouldn't care so much if someone just picked flowers out of my garden. IF they stole my potted plants/flowers I'd be more upset.

I once saw a hidden camera crime show where a local florist was busted driving around upscale neighborhoods and stealing flowers. It was nuts. It was like a drive by, he had a van with a driver waiting with buckets filled with water and the flowers when he was busted.

A couple of summers ago someone was stealing hydreagna (Sp?) from yards in several towns. My sister is a florist and she said the flower is very popular but very expensive.

Oh yes, people are that bad. Here's a story you might like. Last Saturday a dearly loved 69-year-old neighbor passed away. His funeral was on Wednesday. Another neighbor, who used to have a floral business, decided that she'd make an arrangement and take it to the funeral home on Tuesday for the visitation. She asked if I'd transport it in my van for her because she has only a small sports car. Tuesday morning I pop over to her house and help her load it in my van. On my gosh, it was the most beautiful arrangement! She said the retail value would have been about $150. The highlights of the arrangement were several glorious green stems of orchids (very expensive she told me) that she had placed in vials of water, then arranged in the floral foam up front and center in the arrangement. We took the arrangement to the funeral home and placed it on a carpet runner in the home's back garage, where we were instructed to put it by the funeral director.

I bet you can see where this story is going :(. There were so many arrangements that the usual floral receiving area was full. There were numerous other arrangements in the garage also, and while we were there three more vans pulled up delivering flowers and plants.

I didn't go to the visitation on Tuesday, but my neighbor did. She called me later that night in tears. Somebody had taken the orchids (in their water vials) out of her arrangment and rearranged the flowers a bit to fill in the empty spots. Her hand-made condolence card and business card were also moved to different places in the arrangement.

We suspect that another florist delivery person did the deed. Somebody probably lifted the orchids and took them back to their shop to resell. My neighbor tried to look at most of the other arrangements at the visitation to see if she could spot the orchids, but she didn't see them.

I think we stumbled upon a dirty little florist trade secret. Family and friends at the visitation wouldn't have known that flowers were missing from the arrangement. My neighbor has decided not to pursue it further. If it was me, I'd have called the funeral home and given them an ear full.

Such nastiness to steal funeral flowers!

That is horrible! The thief better be careful--karma can be dangerous.

OMG! There aren't too many things I can think of that would be lower than stealing flowers from a funeral home :sad2:. Karma's a witch and she loves to kick butt occasionally, so hopefully the thieves mentioned in this thread will enjoy the bitter taste of their own medicine.

We recently had a chair taken off our porch. Still can't figure that one out....when?....how....why?

The stolen flowers from a funeral home takes the prize, though.

We were posting at the same time & had the same thoughts. I guess great minds think alike.

I've heard of landscaping being stolen before. Usually newly installed shrubs from new homes, businesses or public places. Just like they steal building materials from job sites.

If you have such a bush, its not uncommon to have people stopping asking if they can take cuttings. Its happened at 2 houses my parents owned. And at a business I worked at. Except, at the business, people would just stop & hack up the bush at night when we were closed. If they stopped & asked during the day, the owner would say no because people were destroying the bush over years.

When my mother passed away almost five years ago now, we put some plants out at the cemetary and yep, someone stole them. I really think that's low. We're not the only ones, there's always letter to the editors in the local paper about flowers being stolen out there :sad2:.

About 8 years ago we had a rash of thefts in the two surrounding streets and mine. One item would be taken, a carpet, a chair, a TV, a light, some food not much value, but each house was broken into and something was stolen. We live on a "no Outlet" street, meaning the three streets go through to the end street, but then out to the main road again. The three streets kind of were like this_UU. At the end street is a high school.
About 8 months later the high school janitor was cleaning the woods area and fell into an 8 foot hole. The teens had dug out a 12X12 pit and furnished it with all the stolen goods. The had supported the sides with plywood they had taken from the school so the "room" had 4 walls. they covered it with a rug and some leaves to make it hidden, and ran electricity from the school.
I have to give them credit, they sure did know what they were doing.
They never could blame it on one kid but did question and punish a few kids they caught going into the pit during school hours.

I once lived in an apt on the 1st floor with a porch. I had one of those flod-up chairs out there. A stray cat had puked all over it and it was in the summer heat. It was stolen!! I didn't have a chance to clean it before it was stolen. I figured they needed it more than I did to take it in that condition!

Oh My Goodness....who knew that stealing flowers from a funeral arrangement would EVEN exist in someones MIND................Goodness, how very SAD!

We have had our Xmas Decorations "attempted" to be stolen, but we now use a discreet CHAIN and lock about the bases....pathetic, I know....but they tried and knocked them over in their attempt, breaking a snowman (those huge metal ones with little white light ups) but at least they did not get him. Years ago, kids must have stolen our hand painted wood EGG stakes, (every easter I put out carrots and eggs that are staked, so cute...) I was so upset as my ds made them with his dad and I and when we finally re-made them we wrote on the back of each one
"STOLEN FROM XX Street" figuring they were probably taking them to their own homes....crazy and I live in a Good neighborhood, I think people do things on dares...prob kids, but GEEZ, it is a SAD commentary on no boundaries to self respecting themselves or others/property.
OH, my neighbor had a wildflower garden in the front yard (corner lot) and people used to always just go by a snip flowers. It used to get her so mad.....I guess THEY thought it was wild...but she toiled to make it Look that way and then one year, literally ripped it all out and it is grass now...it used to be quite lovely, but no more :sad2:

Sorry to hear about the loss of the flowers but more importantly sorry about the loss of your neighbor :grouphug:

Until recently, MIL lived in an upscale, swanky, gated retirement community. Just as you enter the gates, there was some gorgeous landscaping with lovely flowers. One day, DH and I drove in and there was a 50-something y.o man out there, cutting flowers and it looked as if he was putting them in a bunch, so to speak. I looked at DH and imitated the man, saying, "Hey Mama, I brought you some purty flowers." :rotfl2::rotfl::lmao: We both laughed our heads off, because we just KNEW that's what he was doing. He was headed to his old mama's apartment, clutching that bundle of freshly cut flowers from the landscaping and was going to let Mama think he'd bought them for her.......the deadbeat scoundrel. :rolleyes1

I have heard of mass stealings of planters on porches, hanging pots, and such from people's homes at night. They are sold at a flea market.:scared:
